Description
This order was formed in the year 2923, a few centuries after the first colonization fleet had been sent to the planet of Torrocus. They were formed under the guidance of the first Grand-Master, Oran Herestan, who changed his name to Gideon Asmundr upon forming the Frontier Knights.
Gideon was a veteran of the Humanitarian Federation Marines, and served for over twenty years in the armed forces. He fought in many battles against rebels and pirate bands, and retired after his long years of service with many military decorations for his service in the defense of order, stability, and most important, the protection of those who could not defend themselves. It was during those years of retirement that the Tearrocs first emerged, and his home world of Trevine was one of the later worlds to fight with the newly mutated/evolved humans; the colony was one of the later to be sieged after several more has been decimated in a blitzkrieg strike from the aliens.
The sixty-seven year old veteran mustered up what people he could, and in a valiant stand, held off the Tearroc forces long enough for military forces from the HF to reach the planet. There, he fought alongside his fellow Marines, guiding them in attacking the Tearrocs using what he had learned in the short time of engaging the hostile force. It was on Trevine that the HF was able to halt the Tearroc advance, and eventually negotiations were opened with the Tearrocs.
Much to Gideon's (whose name was still Oran at the time) and over Trevine native's dismay, the HF decided to give the colony over to the Tearroc forces, who were simply set on taking complete control of the Torrocus system, which Trevine sat within. Despite his anger towards the choice, Gideon did not resist nor fight against his COs, and did as he was ordered. However, he was now set with a new goal in mind and set out to see that no new colonies would ever fall prey to such attacks the Torrocus colonies had.
It was here that he changed his name to Gideon Asmundr, his first name translating in a variety of ways, but essentially meaning "Mighty Warrior" while his last name translates roughly to "God Protector". It was under this new name that the old war veteran began to gather other veterans of wars, especially of the Tearroc Blitz, and organized them into a paramilitary organization dedicated to defending new colonies. And thus the Knight Sentinels of the Frontier were born.
The Frontier Knights are composed mostly of volunteers, the paid members composing of civilians who perform more of the menial tasks, such as maintenance of Knight vessels, cooks, engineers, and other roles. The volunteers are often veterans of other battles and wars throughout the years, or in some cases are people who have chosen this path rather than the military. Despite being a volunteer force, the Order maintains a large numbers of forces, from ships, to their own armor, weapons, and even battle mechs. Much of their money is gained through donations from a large number of people, including many corporations and politicians, who may only do so for the good PR it brings, but the Knights are not one to turn away funding.
