The cynical leader of King Vorroth's "Lemon Seeds"
Eldge tends to expect the worst of everyone; his explanations for all of human action will almost invariably end up referring back to either greed or short-sightedness. Because of this, he rarely expects anything but the worst of most of even his own soldiers, and acknowledgent of completed work is kept to a few gruff comments.
However, that is not to say its impossible to gain Eldge's respect; he just doles it out grudgingly.
-A heavy two-handed sword, with an adorned pommel, but often in obvious bad shape
-A set of banded metal armor, worn over chainmail
-A pack horse, named Quilly
-Various camp and other equipment as needed by a soldier or traveler
-Rings and a pendant
-A simple black leather notebook
-A military crossbow and a case of bolts
Eldge was fifteen when Vorroth's armies finally broke through the stalwart defenders of Thedan, his home country. He witnessed firsthand how they looted and ransacked his home city. He ended up marshalling together some of the other citizens and taking up a sword made by his own hands to try to keep at least a small section of the city safe for people to flee, eventually running himself to Thedan's capital. There, he quickly joined the remnants of the army and just two years later found himself looked to by a shattered group of fighters within the fallback lines for leadership. Not knowing what else to do, Eldge ordered them to make a suicidal charge on Vorroth's forces. It was only by the individual skill of those soldiers that they didn't all die, and opened the way for yet another retreat. Eldge still blames himself for those that were lost because of that charge.
The next years of his life were spent in a guerrilla campaign with a small corp of those who still refused to capitulate to Vorroth, where Eldge finally learned the craft of command. His last stand as a Thedanian soldier was in a mountain hideout that they had believed to be unfindable. Eldge himself was cornered while his men fought elsewhere.
He told Vorroth's men where the myriad of secret passageways in the mountain were in exchange for his life.
After being held prisoner for some time, Eldge was unexpectedly offered a job. For reasons of his own, he accepted it immediately. His time in prison is all that most people even know of his past.
