Sergeant and disciplinarian.
Tarn is a disciplinarian; in fact, Soble often relies on him to keep order within the Lemon Seeds and deliver small orders that nevertheless need to be paid heed to. It is easy to provoke Tarn (whether intentionally or not) into a rage. If you break his restraint, (as happens some three fr four times a month,) you may walk away with a slap (if you're lucky,) a sword-pommel to the head (if you're unlucky,) or a severe chewing-out (if at least three different gods favor you, Venus is in retrograde, and you remembered to drop a coin in the beggar's hat two blocks down.)
He knows enough about tracking, both by ear and by physical remnants. However in truth, Tarn feels most comfortable within "civilization." The closer he gets to wilderness, and the further he gets into woods of any kind, the more he's set on edge. He may be heard muttering something about it being "too messy" when he's forced inside it.

-A shining suit of chainmail
-A military longbow
-A quiver of arrows
-A pouch of recent paperwork of all kinds
Tarn has always been a part of King Vorroth's army since he was old enough to enlist. He joined, and stayed with, a unit of archers that was usually deployed to defend fortresses or cities from attack. He's waited out more sieges than most soldiers have even heard of; his stomach (as the whisperers say) has shrunken to half the size of a normal man's as the result of so many thinly-rationed meals.
Those same whisperers almost always come back to an incident over eight years ago, when Tarn was protecting the Capitol itself from assault. Another archer near him had taken a shot in the right leg and gone down. Tarn told him to get back up and fight, but the soldier refused, citing his obvious wound, and asked to be taken to a medic. Tarn then drew his bow and shot him in the left leg, perfectly opposite the first. "Now it's even," he said. "You should be balanced enough to walk."
He was the first sent to the Lemon Seeds, out of the four that were assigned by the time Eldge took command and the unit began to act. So far, no abuse of that degree has occurred. Some say it's because the Leon Seeds are truly of a better breed and don't prompt it. Others insist that it's only the admonishments of Eldge that keep him from it.
