Powers/Abilities:
Intuitive Aptitude
"Intuitive Aptitude is the official term for my mutation. I like to think of it as enhanced learning."
Intuitive Aptitue allows Effy to instantly learn and understand the complexity and exactness of organisms and objects without the need of long-term or special education. Simply put all Effy has to do is touch something to understand its makeup and how to use it.
To a degree this also allows her to understand a persons powers,
Psychometry
"One touch and I know all your secrets"
The power to perceive the residual information of an object by touching it. By touching someone Effy is able to see their life-history. This does not allow her to feel or hear their thoughts, only their memories. When using her powers on objects she can tell who made it, who has used it and what has been done with it.

Weaknesses:
Her physical abilities
Although she will automatically understand how to use something she might not have the required physical ability to do so, for example touching a sword will fill her with the knowledge of how to master it but that is little use if she cannot lift it. So, her physical strength, speed etc confines what she can do.
Physical Contact
For Effy's abilities she must be touching the person or object.
Overload
If there is too much information gained when touching an item or person Effy has been known to black out as her mind tries to cope with the flood of information.

Personality:
"We can't all be the nice girl."
Effy is incredibly smart and not just due to her mutations. Sure, being able to instantly learn how an object works definitely has it advantages and gaining someone's memories can give her an extra hand up in a subject. She has a quick mind that is fast to learn lessons, maths and science being areas of particular interest to her. Her studies have always been important to her and she has made sure not to let herself fall behind in her school work as she trains her mutation.

Effy is also competitive and, at times, manipulative. She has used her powers on more than one occasion to gain the advantage over people. Blackmailing them with their secrets is always a good motivator. Certainly, towards her own friends she is less manipulative. In fact she can be friendly, sweet and funny when she wants to be. But they are emotions she usually only reveals to her close friends. To everyone else she is cold, calculating and distant. There is usually a hint of a smirk on her face, no doubt brought about by someone's stupidity. Effy has no time for ignorance in others and often has no problem in sharing her less than polite thoughts.

Effy is confident in who she is, a trait she needs considering she pushes a lot of people away with her calculating attitude. She has no problem speaking her mind. She enjoys doing what she wants and not being confined by others' rules. She can party with the best of them, flaunt rules and talk her way out of anything. For those people that she likes and she deems are worth her time she will go out of her way to include. For those who are below her notice... well, she won't think twice before she walks over them.

History:
I was born to Judy and Samuel Sharpe. My mother was a professor of Ancient Studies and had an obsession with everything old, hence my name. My father was a researcher. Needless to say neither was well-paid jobs, but I was never in need of anything. I always had a way of getting what I wanted, even before my mutation developed. My parents, teachers and neighbours all thought that I was a sweet, innocent little girl. None of them knew that behind the cute blonde plaits and dimpled smile was a mind calculating the best what to get what I wanted.

When my mutations fully developed I had to say that it caused me a little concern. I touched a computer and, without knowing how, I suddenly knew how it worked right down to the smallest circuit. My psychometry came a year later and by the time I was approached to join I had already gained some level of control over both. I hope that as I continue to learn my powers will expand.

Alliance: 'Who knows? I haven't finished getting all I need out of this school yet.'

"My room. Tidy, ordered and filled with reminders of who I am."

Effy Sharpe

The manor was impressive, to say the least. Effy put the car into second gear and inched up the driveway, taking the time to fully appreciate the sprawling gardens and the imposing face of the mansion. It looked old. Her fingers itched as she thought of all the items inside that would have tales to tell, not to mention the people. Effy would have to be careful not to overload on new information or else she would black out, not a good look when you were first meeting people.

A car came down the drive way, leaving the manor, and Effy was able to make out a middle-aged woman crying in the other car. No doubt someone just had a tearful goodbye. Effy thought back to her own farewell. She had seen no reason to be upset and had simply given her parents a quick hug before departing. Effy had no doubt that she would see her parents again, so what was the use of crying? She wasn't exceptionally close to her parents but they were the only parents she had and she cared for them. Still, she was looking forward to this time away from them.

Effy opened the car door and stepped out, pulling her bag after her. Now that she was here Effy couldn't help but let a smile cross her face. She would be able to learn more here, with other mutants, than she could have alone. She had met few mutants before coming to the manor and those that she had met and been low levels, their powers barely worth the title. Effy hoped that here she would be amongst equals.

Effy closed the car door and hit the lock button on her keys (although she doubted that anyone would steal her car here). Then she strode up the entrance steps and pushed the door opened. As her fingertips touched the door information flooded her brain. She saw its creation, installment and then the many generations of hands that had opened the door. Quickly, not wanting to overwhelm herself, she pulled her fingers back and stepped through, kicking the door closed with her foot.

She hadn't thought to encounter anyone in the entrance, or if she did she would have expected someone to welcome and take her to her room. As it was the only person in sight was a boy holding a knapsack and a guitar, obviously another new student. Effy put on a friendly smile, thinking that this was as good a time as any to begin figuring out who everyone was.
She took a step forward,
"Hi there, are you new too?" Effy asked, holding her hand out in greeting. "I'm Effy."

Eden silently trekked through the entrance as he opened his knapsack and pulled out his black leather journal. He skimmed through the written pages, stopping at a blank one and took his pen out of his jacket pocket. Leaning against the wall, Eden began to scribble down his thoughts.

It's a big place, bigger than I thought it would be. Unfortunately, the more room...the more people. I barely like walking down the street, let alone walking down a hallway with people that can possibly destroy me. If the spirits don't kill me...these mutants will. I...

Eden's thoughts were interrupted when a petite blonde girl spoke to him. He frowned, not knowing what to do in this situation. He never really talked to people and no one every really found him interesting enough to actually introduce themselves to him. Quickly, he flipped to a new page of his journal, scrawling his response in his semi-sloppy handwriting.

...I'm Eden

He turned the page towards her so that she could read the text. He wondered whether she'd think that his communication skills were unnatural, which he was fully aware that they were, but it was the only way he could do it. He lost the will to speak a long time ago. Just then another girl came into view. He was beginning to feel uncomfortable. He was hoping that he'd be ignored this year. His eyes remained downcast and empty as the girl in the hat asked the blonde about the whereabouts of her brother. Eden said nothing, didn't even look at her, simply shrugging his shoulders to signal that he had no idea where her brother was. He fiddled with his fingers, unsure what to do with himself. Eden just prayed that he'd be directed to his room soon, so he could unpack and be alone. Call him antisocial, but new people just weren't his thing.

Eden looked up from fiddling with his thumbs and before he knew it, he was face to face with the girl in the hat. His eyes went a tad wide as a flash of fear made his blood turn icy. He swallowed before glancing at her drawing. He had to admit that it was impressive, but he didn't respond. His lips felt dry again and his head ached a bit. Warning. Just like that, Ruth was standing behind the stranger.

"I'm Seraphina, by the way. Don't call me that, though. Call me Raphy," she said. Ruth giggled, the sound resembling an echo of various wind chimes ringing in unison. Eden fought the urge to smile down at the tiny spirit. He looked over Raphy's shoulder at his dead sister as she looked up at the living girls in admiration. Never would she be able to grow as tall, never drive, never kiss, never find love. His chest ached a bit. She deserved so much more.

"Eddie, it's rude to ignore new people. Daddy would be mad if he knew that you were being a meanie," Ruth said as she walked to his side, placing her freezing flesh against his warm skin. He looked down at her, nodding in response, ignoring the bitterness that rose in his throat at the mention of the man the shunned him. Letting go of her hand, he started to write down his reply in his journal.

Eden...just Eden.

He glanced at the blonde girl. What was her name again? Elly? Emmie? Effy! Ruth appeared by the blonde's side, looking up at her with glassy green orbs. "She looks a little like me when I could breath, Eddie." Tilting his head a bit, Eden realized that she did resemble an elder version of Ruth if she was ever given the chance to grow up; from the blonde locks to the creamy complexion. "Eddie, tell her that I said she's pretty. She can't hear me, but I want her to know that I like her already." Nodding, Eden scribbled more words into his journal and held it out to Effy, so that she could see.

Ruth thinks that you're pretty. She likes you.

His face was blank as he showed her this, but there was a glint of fondness towards Ruth hidden in the depths of his green eyes.

Effy Sharpe

Effy's drew her hand back when it became apparent that the young man wasn't about to shake it. She felt a minor pang of disappointment, a hand shake would have been an ideal situation to use her power on him. She mentally shrugged, she would have another opportunity sometime in the future so she wasn't really that concerned.
It appeared that the boy didn't speak. He scribbled something in his notebook and then held it out for Effy to read.
'...I'm Eden' .

A girl in a hat appeared before Effy could reply, asking about her brother. The hat girl's eyes latched onto Eden's notebook and thoughts of her brother appeared to disappear as she pulled out her own notebook, opening it to a picture that Effy couldn't quite make out from where she was standing.
"Do you draw?" Hat girl asked Eden as she brought out her notebook. A moment later she introduced herself to him as Seraphina, or Raphy.

It was curious, watching Eden's eyes as they seemed to be staring at a point just behind Raphy. Then his attention was drawn down to his side where he nodded, as if agreeing with someone. Was this behaviour something to do with his mutation or was he nervous? Eden introduced himself to Raphy using his notebook again and Effy found herself wondering whether he didn't speak because he was mute or by choice.

Then Eden was looking at Effy, his head tilted a bit as his eyes scanned her. He nodded, again Effy got the impression that he was nodding to someone that was neither Effy nor Raphy. Then he ducked his head as he scribbled in his notebook before holding it out for her to see.

"Ruth thinks that you're pretty. She likes you."

The compliment was a surprise and somewhat of a mystery considering that the only people Effy could see in the entrance hall were Raphy, Eden and herself. "Who is Ruth?" Effy asked, curious. She glanced around the room, certain that no one else had entered the entrance hall while the three of them had been talking. A thought occurred to Effy, perhaps this was the person that Eden had appeared to be nodding to earlier. Effy's eyes wondered back to Eden and then the notebook,
"Thank you, Ruth." Effy said, somewhat uncertainly. She hoped that Eden wasn't joking with her.

Raphy backed off, realizing she had spooked the poor boy. She looked at him, wondering what his power was. When Eden said something about some girl named Ruth, it clicked. Something with the dead, or unseen, was the most likely case. Cool, Raphy thought to herself, shrugging silently. Raphy already didn't like the pushy blonde, and took a few steps back. Raphy really didn't like people, but she felt something...Different around Eden. She felt calm around him.

Raphy lowered her head, realizing that neither the blonde or Eden was paying any attention to her anymore. Deciding she wouldn't be missed, Raphy moved slowly away from them. She was backing away instead of turning to walk, she didn't like having her back to people, and once she felt the wall behind her, Raphy lowered herself to the ground.

Claude smiled, taking the bags into her room. "It's not a problem at all. Helping a pretty girl makes me feel good about myself," the boy winked, smiling in a cocky but cool way. "Anything else I can do for ya?"

"Who is Ruth?"

He should have saw that reaction coming. It's not like everyone could see Ruth, let alone the millions of other spirits that surrounded them everyday. His eyes shifted to Ruth for a second, watching her smile up at Effy. Even in death, she held that beautiful innocence that only a child could possess. Despite her paper thin skin, noticeable veins, and dead eyes, Eden still found her adorable. His eyes were back on Effy, studying the look of uncertainty on her face. He fully understood the confusion, so he didn't hold it against her. He scrawled in his journal, writing down his explanation.

Ruth is my sister. She's dead. You were going to find this out anyway, so I might as well tell you now. My mutation is that I can communicate with the dead.

He held out the journal for her to see. He shrugged his broad shoulders, green orbs looking bland and lazy. Turning around he watched with a raised brow as Raphy lowered herself to the floor. Was he being rude again? He had a habit of unintentionally doing that. Not knowing how to deal with her sudden aloofness, he wrote down his words.

Where can I get my room and schedule?

He lifted the page for Effy to read. He was anxious to get away from the attention. He wasn't fond of the dead, but the living were even less predictable. Under the radar...that's all he wanted. He gripped the neck of his guitar, the paint was smooth against his fingertips. The paint job's irony wasn't lost on him, but he figured that he deserved to have a bit of humor in his life. Sighing, he lifted the instrument and shrugged his knapsack further onto his shoulder. His eyes bored into Effy, waiting for her to direct him to the place where he could find some solitude.

Eden held his notebook out again and Effy leaned forward to read his writing,
"Ruth is my sister. She's dead. You were going to find this out anyway, so I might as well tell you now. My mutation is
that I can communicate with the dead."

"Oh." Was all Effy could manage, as she read it. It wasn't everyday you found out that someone could communicate with the dead. "Thank you Ruth." She repeated, less uncertain now. Effy hadn't lost anyone close to her, ever, so she had little idea of what to say to Eden. Instead she watched as he scribbled in his notebook again and held it out for her to read,

"Where can I get my room and schedule?"

Eden was clearly uncomfortable with all this attention, his fingers closed around his guitar and he adjusted his bag on his shoulder. Effy glanced around and was about to reply that she was unsure where to go when Hat girl - Raphy - jumped up from her spot against the wall. Why she had sat down there in the first place was beyond Effy.
Anyway, Raphy seemed to have some idea of where to go and appeared eager to lead Eden there. Effy watched, eyebrows slightly raised, as the girl took the knapsack off Eden and sauntered off towards a table that Effy hadn't noticed before.

"If you ever want to see your knapsack again, you'll follow me," Raphy's words were teasing as she spoke to Eden. Effy watched as the girl then turned to the students at the table, tried to make a joke and then simply asked for her room key. Once she had been handed the papers and keys Raphy turned back towards Eden, waving the papers towards him.
"C'mon, Eden. Lets go discover where we can ignore these...people" Raphy's eyes flicked around the room and Effy wondered if the girl was referring to her.
Effy couldn't help but roll her eyes. She wasn't used to meeting people who made such... rash decisions. In Effy's world it was usually wise to actually talk to someone before deciding they weren't worth your time. Effy gave a mental shrug, each to their own she supposed.

Effy walked towards the table and waited for the students sitting there to glance up,
"Euphemia Sharpe." She told them pleasantly. It was the girl that Raphy had called 'goldilocks' that handed Effy her key and a sheet of paper that outlined the school's rules and had a small map of the building. As the girl passed the items into Effy's outstretched hand their fingers briefly touched. In that moment a flash of 'goldilocks' past appeared, an innocent childhood memory of the girl reading Goldilocks and the Three Bears with her father.
"Thanks." Effy told the girl, drawing her hand back. The girl of course couldn't feel that Effy had just used her power, even if Effy hadn't meant to use it. Effy was still working on controlling her power. She found that she could turn it off if she concentrated but there were always times when a sudden contact would cause it to flick on and she would be rushed with images. If she wasn't careful she could overload herself.

Effy turned back around, pocketing her key quickly. She decided to wait a moment to let Raphy leave before Effy did.

Effy watched as Raphy and Eden disappeared up the stairs. Eden shrugged down at Effy to which Effy simply gave a small smile.
"You're not friends with her are you?" The girl that Raphy had called goldilocks asked from her seat at the table, her eyes had always followed the two up the stairs. Effy shook her head,
"No, I only just met her." She replied. Goldilocks - Effy caught sight of the girl's name tag, it read Hester - nodded and Effy decided to take her leave. She didn't really feel like sticking around and talking about the other students just yet.

It didn't take long to find Effy's room. She unlocked the door and stepped inside. It was airy, bright and looked extremely comfortable. Of course the walls were bare, it would be up to Effy to decorate her room. She walked across to the window, placing her bag on the bed as she passed it. Her view looked out across the manor's backyard, over a multitude of flowers, bushes and lawn. It was amazing really, considering that she had come from your regular suburban house.

She pushed the window open, flinching slightly as memories of its past flashed through her mind. Her silently scolded herself for her lack of concentration. It had been happening too much this morning, no doubt the excitement of arriving at the manor was what kept causing her to lose focus.

Stepping back into the middle of her room Effy did a 360 turn, taking it all in. The bed was a decent sized double and currently pushed against the far wall. Frowning, Effy tilted her head and bit her lip as she tried to figure out where she wanted it. An idea struck her and she moved into action. The bed scraped along the ground as she pushed it across her room. When she had finally gotten it into the desired place she stood back again and admired her work. Now the bed sat with it's headboard against the left wall and when she lay on it she would be able to see out the window.

That done Effy got to work unpacking and decorating her room. It didn't take long given that she already had an idea of what she wanted. The got out a bedspread, books, pictures and a large 'E' for Effy. The final result was bright, colourful, tidy and exactly how she liked it.
Anything that wasn't an old keepsake had been brought new. She didn't go in for second hand stuff since it often came with unwanted memories. What good were the memories of someone she had never met?

Raphy closed her door silently, taking a deep breath. As she fumbled in her bag, she let out a string of curse words. No wonder she felt like crap today...she'd left her lithium pills at home. Fuck... she thought to herself. Now I'm going to be an uber bitch...no wonder no one likes me. The thought actually made Raphy want to laugh, cry, and scream at the same time. Her depression was only worsened by her bipolar disorder, and the lithium pills were the only things that got her out of bed most days.

Raphy sighed, deciding to meditate. She wondered how many people were in her radius, because when Raphy meditated, she also subconsciously used her power, shutting off the power of those around her for a few minutes. Deciding she really didn't care how many people were close enough to be affected, Raphy sat in the middle of the floor, closed her eyes, and began to meditate.

Within a minute she felt a rush, her whole body ignited with electricity. This is what it felt like to absorb the powers of others, to stop them for a moment. Of course, Raphy didn't know if she could do anything with the absorption, but she did know she could store it inside herself for a few minutes before it became to overwhelming and she had to stop. Her hair blew from some unseen wind, and eyes shaking back and forth under her eyelids.

There were at least 4 people in her 5 yard radius, possibly 5 people, and she felt their power rush toward her. She'd never felt so alive, so near death, so excited, and so afraid all at the same time. These were the powers people used on a daily basis, some of them even took them for granted...Raphy concentrated, trying to pull out the normal 4 minutes to 5, thinking maybe she could make it last a bit longer

Suddenly, Raphy felt an overwhelming feeling of pain. Someone was yelling about their family. She couldn't breathe. Someone was reading the past of someone else. She didn't want to see. Raphy knew this feeling, the feeling of too many powers overwhelming her body and starting to work inside of her. She saw information she never thought she could know. Raphy tried to stay calm, knowing it could hurt the person she was stealing from if she let it go to fast.

Raphy couldn't hold it, and suddenly the rush left her entire body, leaving her feeling weak and unable to breathe. Right now, she didn't care if the power returning hit the other person like a bag of bricks. She stood, swooned, and knocked her head, hard, against the bookshelf in her room. There was a loud thud as her body hit the floor, and the girl realized, before her world went black, that she had tried to push it to far.

Claude gasped, looking around. "This...this is all ours to explore?" He wondered in a whispery awe. Sure, the house his so called parents paid for was huge, but it was also right in the middle of a major city, so they had no yard, though Raphy had always wanted a garden.

Claude stared, breathless, at the world around him, his cards forgotten and untouched in one palm, the other still held in the grips of Jayson's hand. "I can't...how do they?...is this even?" Claude couldn't even finish a sentence as he looked around the garden. "This is huge," he finished finally, sighing deeply.

Effy Sharpe

Her room done Effy took a seat on her bed, folding her legs beneath her and gazing out the window. Effy couldn't help but wonder what the coming days would bring. There would be fellow mutants to meet, rivals to sort from potential friends and skills to be learned. She had only met a handful of students so far but from what she had seen she expected that the rest would be just as interesting to meet.

Effy didn't feel her powers leave her since at that moment they had been sitting inactive as her hands were wrapped around each other. What she did feel was the recoil of them returning. It felt like she had been punched in the chest, hard. Effy gasped for breath, her hands pressed against her chest as she struggled to figure out what had happened and to regain her breath. For a moment she struggled to fill her lungs. Then, slowly her breathing returned to normal and the pain caused by the recoil receded.

"What was that?" She asked herself, gingerly getting to her feet and staring around her room. A thud from a nearby room caught her attention, was the sound the cause of the strange incident or another victim? Effy was certain that the painful pressure on her chest had been caused by someones power, how else was she meant to explain it? Effy was fit and healthy and had never felt anything like that before. It had to be another mutant.

Slipping into her pair of sandals Effy walked to her door, turned the knob and pushed the door open. She half expected to see whoever it was in the corridor but was disappointed, finding the corridor empty. Effy frowned down the hallway and at the row of doors that lined it. She was certain the thump had come from her left. There were a number of doors in that direction, any one of which might contain the culprit or victim, whatever it turned out to be. Then again the thump could have just been someone dropping an object on the ground and Effy could be completely overreacting. But Effy trusted her instincts and they were telling her that the thudding sound was somehow connected to the painfully feeling.

Biting her lip as she thought Effy glanced along the row of doors. The sound hadn't been that close, most likely it wasn't her neighbour's room that had been the source of the sound. Her eyes lit upon the next room. That one perhaps?
Effy stretched her hand out and ran her finger across the doorknob. The picture of dark haired girl with a hat on her head opening the door flashed before Effy's eyes.
She groaned quietly, recognising Raphy.

Effy took a step back, debating with herself whether or not she wanted to actually talk with the girl again. Raphy hadn't been particularly friendly the first time around, then again Effy's curiousity was pushing her to open the door and find out just what had happened. With a roll of her eyes Effy stepped forward again and banged on the girl's door.
