Eric was there when I started working on this novel way back in high school, and has watched it grow. He even went and made a map for it (isn't he sweet?), and has put up with me rewriting the first chapter so many times that his prediction is that I'll never finish the dratted thing.
Many of you saw the most recent draft (last year) that I posted on the forum. Well, perhaps Eric is right, maybe I'll never finish it. I know at this point it will take me a couple decades to finish, but I think I may have finally found my mode for telling the novel. It has always been flashes of scenes to me, and my struggle has been to connect these really strong flashbacks with something that is just a weak idea. So here's my current idea. I'm going to write the scenes in my character's lives as they come to me. Eventually, they will be woven together as a set of flashbacks in Kishalana's mind as she goes through a day. Haven't quite figured that part out yet, but there's plenty of time before I have to get there. This way, any inconsistencies can be blamed on character memories. I might even have many characters giving the flashbacks.
So, today I will be looking through what I had already written and finding scenes that are good flashbacks, and then possibly writing another. That all depends on time- I'm giving myself until the roomie wakes up, or until 1pm, whichever comes first.
Any comments, thoughts, or critiques are appreciated.
