Its been 11 years now, since the last time Waterdeep lived in unease and fear. Just like most cities, Waterdeep is a large city, crawling with industry and life. People live their lives, day in and day out. Since Waterdeep is bordering the ocean, many parts of the city is built on docks.
But not all is in order. Lately, people who tend to stray into back allies or drunks walking home from a rough night of drinking, are reported missing, gruesome tales have spread around the streets, talking of hungry teeth lurking in dark ally ways.
After one week of missing persons reports flooded the City Watch, the local law enforcement/ personal military forces of the king, they had to take the issue strait to King Henery, Majesty of Waterdeep. The old king knew it was a calling card of a foe he had hoped died for good. 11 years ago, a twisted monster known as Lord Xantam.
Xantam lived in a system of caves called Underdark. Underdark is connected to the sewers of Waterdeep. Xantam, like so many other evil races and creatures, had chosen this dark and eerie place as a home. After living in this gloom place, he set his sights on Waterdeep, thoughts of greed consumed him when he picture the city under his control. He rounded up other creatures and races that lived below the ground to attack the city and take it for his own. A group of adventures hired by the king had “killed” Xantam, and forced his army to retreat to the deepest parts of Underdark.
But now seeing one of the attributes of his old rival, the king is now trying to hire any one brave enough to adventure into Underdark and to end the matter form good this time.
But in Underdark, the story is different. Most of the races that live in Underdark where waiting for the king to send an army of the City Watch down to finish them off. But the years have passed and they have believed the king to have forgotten about them. They started to live life once agin until a human outlaw name Karen claims to be the right hand of Xantam and is rebuilding his army. He told the races Underdark that Xantam was alive and well. Most of the Underdark vowed allegiance to Xantam, although no one has seen Xantam out in the open, some of the higher up people in his army, including Karen, have claimed to have seen him alive.
