WWII: Operation Market Garden

Tips: 0.00 INK Postby Moonwolf on Sun Nov 23, 2008 3:02 am

A BRIDGE TOO FAR

By the fifth year, the war was still going Hitler's way. German Forces occupied more than half of Europe and ruled it with an iron fist; it would not stay that way. By D-Day, things changed - Allied forces landed in Normandy and started the fierce push that would drive the Germans back, liberating Paris. The German Forces, now in full retreat, fell back quickly, and many key commanders were called back to the West in order to defend the occupied territories. The Allied Advance was brought to a crushing halt soon after, supplies were already long-drawn-out, and the German Axis forces were retreating faster than the Allies could advance.
Commander of the Allied Forces, Eisenhower, had a long standing problem as well. His two best generals, Patton and Montgomery, had a burning rivalry with each other. Both wanted to reach Berlin first, both wanted to be the first to topple the Germans, and both were headed in seperate directions, the supplies simply could not reach both generals. Montgomery presented a great, daring plan to his superiors later on, drop 35,000 Troops 300 miles towards enemy lines, take over three important bridges, especially Arnhem, and occupy Holland. When they reached the industrial heart of Germany - the Ruhr, there would be no stopping the Allied Advance, supplies or not, and the Axis forces could do nothing about it. Under great pressure from his superiors, Eisenhower approved operation Market Garden in favour of Patton's demands to advance past Asia instead, and this grand plan was put into action...

Briefing:

- Operation Market Garden was a real operation mounted by the Allied Forces, you will play either the an Allied or Axis Soldier both with their own direct goals - Either capture the bridge, or blow up the bridge.

- Do not automatically assume ranks, in the profile template, there will be the 'Resume' option, if you leave it blank, you will gain the rank Private. The Resume Option is typing in a roleplay line in which you must display how you would lead your troops if you were a soldier in the operation; once this is done, I will give you a private message stating what rank you have achieved. If you do not think that rank is appriopriate, you can do the resume again.

- Semi-Literate posts are preferred, although any other is allowed, particularly Literate.

- Wounds must be realistic, you would not escape unharmed from artillery fire, neither would you be unscathed after getting showered with shrapnel from a frag grenade.

- In light of performing courageously or intelligently in certain RP situations, you might receive a Medal by a Private Message from me. Medals amount usually to how realistic/good/ of a roleplayer you are. You will also receive a private message from me should you get promoted.

- Profiles need not be approved, you can post the profile and begin immediately, unless you want to wait for your Resume to be read by me and decide upon your rank.

- Operation Market Garden consisted of only two forces - Infantry, and Tank. Air and Naval forces played little to no parts in the Operation, Air was used for supplies for both fronts, and the only Naval forces used were the rafts used for crossing the river by the Allies.

- Take note, soldiers in Market Garden were all males, in light of allowing for the female gender to participate, we will allow female freedom-fighters, assuming the French came with us.
