(All open, just jump in, extend and enjoy. Going farther into the game thing, trying to start romance, etc. or something new would be awesome. Fear the wall of text. *sigh* I wonder if anyone would join...)
Daren glared down at the app on his watch; he still had a temperature of 101° and the layer of sweat wasn’t helping. The young man of 26 years of age kept walking, he had heard walking helped distract a body from withdrawal. No one else was on the little used sidewalks; so called traditional excersise was a thing of the past obviously. No one walked anymore, then again, no one smoked either and after today, neither would he. The cigarettes of 2088 were half as deadly but twice as addictive and somehow, some way, Daren Hays had gotten hooked a few years back. He was quitting; smoking wasn’t worth his time or money, but at the moment, the withdrawal didn’t seem worth it either. There were all sorts of wonder drugs out there that could prevent this or just make him quit flat out, but these sort of things, despite being on the market, were not generally accessable to the common people simply because of their outrageous pricing.
The young man batted away the the black hair that was sticking to his forhead and continued his walk. He looked up at the auto-passes above him, large overlayering roads that allowed a far faster way of passage for vehicles. The small, lighter cars traveled on the highest, top road while the ground level was reserved for terrain shipping and delivery. Sidewalks were also on ground level and were often a pain to get to. If this had been 80 years ago, the levels would have been smogged up and polluted, but not now. Engineers had final gotten the Hydra, a car that was fueled by salt water, out into the world and much like the beast it was named for, once the machine’s elements were conquered, more would be produced at an uncanny rate.
Daren scoffed, these advancements only caused people to get off their lazy butts even less. But not him. While walking wasn’t part of his daily routine, excersising was, and almost at a forced rate. The young man worked for Advcor, a growing company marketing virtual reality gaming. Daren was their product tester. These games were once considered a mere fantasy but now, a game that you personally entered and played as the character. Great excersise. You were virtualized, your atoms turned to data and transported into the game. You wouldn’t feel pain in the game, but taking enough hits would cause a game over and transport you back out. The most usual form of gameplay in the US was battling holographs, but that sometimes proved to be a tad destructive and extremely strenuous. This new form, the Advcor way, was still in progress, but the population was excited. The game would allow the experience of being in the game, without pain and thanks to the composition, you ended up a little more superhuman then you were in real life. But that’s what it would be, things were still being tested and at the moment, the superhuman abilities hadn’t been added yet. Daren was going throught the game just as he was.
His smoking had started to get in the way of his perfomance, so he had to quit. Not only that, but he also was just starting to hate it. He could take a much cheaper drug to clear up his lungs, he hadn’t been smoking long anyway. A year or two. Plus, smoking wasn’t good for his plans of a family. He wasn’t married, no, but he could manage being a single father. He was well paid, in reasonable health and personally thought he could manage a pregnancy and single fatherhood. He was four years from 30, wasn’t even dating and watching time waste away. The young man had already looked into the surgery and formula administration, but he was still considering it. That sort of thing was a big decision. Plus, it might be hard trying to be the primary product tester for Advcor while pregnant, especially without Hero’s Stamina programmed in yet. He would have to wait until they got things up and running first, that would give him enough time to think things over.
He sighed, to much to think about right now. He really wanted a cigerette and that wasn’t a good sign. His head lowered, Daren continued into the park ahead. Hoping to relax, try to distract himself a little and maybe get the chance to meet someone who wasn’t afraid to get out and about.
