Introduction

ImageOrphan [awr-fuh n]
1) a child who has lost both parents through death

Out in the open fields of Tennessee lived a family as happy can be. The perfect married couple with their perfect children. They ran a farm to make ends meet and everything was looking up for them. It seemed like the world couldn't get any better. But there was a tragic fire while their parents were delivering goods to the local farmers market. No one in the market lived. Including the twins parents. The twins closest relative would not be able to house them and they could not live on the farm. All the twins could do was stay on the farm and keep working as if their parents were still here. All they had were each other. And all they want is peace and happiness.

ImageArabelle went on to explain magic and the limits of it. Isaiah didn't know the magic depended on the person, but if he thought about it, it made sense. Belle had already mentioned Rowan was better at her than magic, though Izzy wasn't sure what "better" really implied. Judging by what she said, it wasn't about the amount of magic but rather the control over it that made one better or worse. It was interesting to think about. Isaiah always read in books that the "better" a magical being was, the more power they had. But Belle was telling him otherwise. She explained how most spells were simple, but only touched on the one she was trying to do. Not so simple didn't really tell him much. That could mean an array of things, but it didn't really answer Isaiah's question. "So...is it dangerous?" He stopped in his racks and turned to look at her, hoping she would be honest with him. There wasn't much he could do if she said it was dangerous. He had no magic, no way of stopping her other than trying to talk her out of doing it. And something told him that would never work.

ImageRowan wasn't one to like sentimental conversations, it always made him feel uneasy or awkward, so he attempted to tell Raelyn that he really did...in all honesty, care about her and Isaiah but without using those exact words. He hoped that by telling her he'd make sure they were protected that she would understand. "But what about you? I don't want you to get hurt." the warlock frowned slightly, but didn't make any efforts to take his hands away fromt he farmer girl. He always knew she cared about him and Arabelle, not that it was ever difficult to read her emotions, but that's not something he needed right now. It would be impossible to protect themselves and the siblings at the same time. Either one or the other, and at this point in time Rowan didn't care much for living a life that included constantly hiding and running away from the coven. "Rae..." he let out a slow breath, fully knwoing how she would react to what he was about to say, though he still attempted to word it in the best way possible. "Yours and Isaiah's safety is our priority right now." he stated, his eyes locking with hers. "Promise me you won't try to come after us."

Image Arabelle was pretty proud of herself for explaining magic. It is always hard to explain it in a way that is easily understandable. There are so many different components to magic. The caster, the spell itself, the type of magic, and even the environment can be a factor. And if the spell book itself held power, than that was also a contributing factor. But she didn't have time to go into all that. Belle has been learning magic since she was a child and still didn't full understand all of it. But Isaiah seemed to generally understand the concept. "So...is it dangerous?" Belle stopped after he did and looked to him. Of course he wanted to know. It made her feel good that he cared, but it hurt knowing that she was just going to upset him with the answer. "Extremely. If I had successfully completed that spell on my own, I would have died...or worse." Which is why she was supposed to complete it with Rowan, but he wasn't available at the time. Between the two of them the consequence would have been bad, but not horrible. "Don't worry. I won't be trying again." At this point she knew it wasn't going to bring her grandmother back. "It won't work. Not for me."

ImageRaelyn knew what she wanted to hear. She wanted him to tell her that everything was going to be okay. She wanted to hear that Rowan had a plan to save them all. She wanted something that told her that him and Arabelle were going to be safe. She wanted to hear that they were all going to get past this together and somehow ending up on top. That was all the farmer girl wanted. It was the one time she was going to accept a lie. "Yours and Isaiah's safety is our priority right now." But that isn't what she was hearing. Rowan and Arabelle made up their mind. They were going to pick the twins lives over their own. It sounded like here was no hope for the two aof them and she wanted to argue. Rae wanted to yell at him for giving up so easily. But she couldn't because she didn't actually know what they were up against. She knew they were bad, but their definition of bad was much different than the human definition of bad. They were up against killers and the worse Rae has faced was someone trying to steal the farm goods in the market. "Promise me you won't try to come after us." They locked eyes and Raelyn could tell that he was serious about this promise. Tears flooded her eyes and slowly fell down her cheeks. "Please..." She started, her heart breaking. "Don't make me promise that.." Because if she did, then she would have to honor it and it would kill her inside.

Image "Extremely. If I had successfully completed that spell on my own, I would have died...or worse." as much as that was the answer Isaiah was expecting to hear, he still didn't like it one bit. The thought that Arabelle could have died, right here in his very own farm nonetheless, while performing the spell that he didn't even know a thing about brought a heavy feeling to his heart. His worry must have immediately showed on his face, a trait both he and Raelyn carried. No one ever had to guess how they felt, they faces always spoke for them. Isaiah was ready to protest, forming in his mind a step by step argument on why Arabelle should never try to perform that spell ever again. Luckily, he didn't have to use it. "Don't worry. I won't be trying again. It won't work. Not for me."" The boy nodded immediately. "Good!" he said with much needed enthusiasm. "I hope you never try anything like that ever again. Belle, if you had been hurt of killed I-" he stopped himself mid-sentence, the backs of his eyes beginning to burn, and broke eye contact with her. He had already lost his parents. And although he and Belle hadn't known one another for very long, he knew for a fact that if he lost her too he would probably lose his mind.

ImageSomehow, Rowan expected the girl to just sadly agree with his request. Of course he didn't think she'd be happy about it, but he also certainly did not expect her to react the way she did. He could see the tears threatening her eyes for a moment before pouring out. The warlock frowned, feeling guilty and helpless at the same time. Emotions that were both rare and basically new to him. "Please...Don't make me promise that.." her voice was soft and shaky, and Rowan had to bite the inside of his cheeks to keep his eyes from watering as well. "Rae..." he took in a sharp breath, subconsciously taking hold of both her hands. "Don't make this hard than it already is..." he kept his voice low, his eyes never leaving her face. He was serious about protecting her, and her brother as well, and no force on heaven hell or earth would change that. "We can't stay here forever...and we can't take you with us. That's too dangerous." he could feel his own heart picking up speed as he spoke, but managed to keep his voice steady. "Just..." he took in a short breath, slightly shaky but not enough to be noticeable. "Just promise me...please...I need to know that you'll be safe". And maybe, just maybe, on the very rare and unlikely chance that he and Arabelle survived this war, this would be the first place he'd be coming back to. Rowan had never been one for lying, or promising things he couldn't guarantee, but this was an exception. "And in return, i promise we'll come back once it's all over". If we're still alive.

"Good! I hope you never try anything like that ever again. Belle, if you had been hurt of killed I-" Belle wasn't sure how to respond to him. She was extremely touched that he care for her so much. Though it was obvious. He wore his heart on his sleeve the same way his twin did. But this was a problem. Izzy cared about Arabelle. Little did he know that Rowan and Belle were doomed to be killed the second they stepped off the coven grounds. She reached out and gently took hold of his hand. "Izzy..." Not only did she have to leave his side in order to protect him, she was sure to die. She didn't want him to care about her. "I don't know what I would do if I lost you too." She added. "Which is why Ro and I are going to do whatever it takes to make sure you all are safe." It was the twins lives over their own. And nothing was going to change that. And it was better that Izzy knew that now and comes to terms with it now. Belle smiled at him, hoping that he wouldn't try and think that he was going to try and help in anyway.

Image
Raelyn couldn't help herself from crying. She didn't want to lose them. She had lost her parents so long ago and there was nothing she could do about it. All she had left was Izzy. And though she loved Ben and Jade with all her heart, Isaiah was really the only family she had left. And now two people that she had finally cared for and one she had a minor crush on, were openly choosing to put themselves at risk. Rae wanted to protect them and she had no idea how. And they obviously weren't going to let her. Rowan wanted to make her promise that she was going to let them go. But this time it was a twist. "And in return, i promise we'll come back once it's all over". She took a second and looked over him. Did he mean that? It didn't matter, he was willing to make that promise. Maybe there was more hope than he was letting on. Rae sniffed and nodded slightly. "O-okay. I promise." She said reluctantly. Her heart was shattered at the promise that she had to make. All she could think was that they better be okay because she can't handle losing them. "Does that mean you two will be leaving soon?" She figured the two of them weren't going to stay and defend themselves here. But how much longer did she have with them before she potentially never them again.

Image"Which is why Ro and I are going to do whatever it takes to make sure you all are safe." Maybe Isaiah was overreacting, or perhaps he understood her words wrong, but it sounded like Arabelle was saying she and Rowan would put their life at risk just to protect them and he didn't like that. Not one bit. He frowned, keeping a firm hold of her hand as well as her eyes. "I don't like the sound of that." he stated, not prepared to give up anytime soon. He didn't care what Arabelle and Rowan thought they were going to do, Izzy had never been one to back down easily. "Whatever it is that we can do, we'll do it." he stated with absolute confidence that Raelyn would agree with him. "But don't..." his breath caught in his throat, causing him to pause momentarily, and the back of his eyes were beginning to burn. "Don't put your life at risk for our sake, please..." he made sure to look her in the eyes before adding. "We- ...I can't bare to lose anyone else." he really hoped Arabelle would grasp the sincerity in his words, otherwise he was prepared to keep arguing.

ImageRowan had almost forgotten he had a heart, but the moment he saw Raelyn's tears fall for his and Arabelle's sake, it became very evident that he did indeed have one and it was beating a bit too fast for it to be normal. He didn't say anything else, but only waited for Raelyn's response, and sighed in relief when he finally agreed to his promise. He did feel guilty, because he made a promise he wasn't even sure he would be able to keep, but it was the only way to keep the twins somewhat content. "Does that mean you two will be leaving soon?" He debated on the answer for a second. Should he tell her the truth or lie on the off chance she and Isaiah would try to stop them. He opted for staying somewhere in between. "Probably tomorrow by noon." technically, he wasn't lying. Though he and Belle planned on leaving very early, come noon they would have already left. He decided to leave out the part of their plan that involved leaving before anyone woke up. "We're still working out the plan details..." he added.

Image Belle didn't know what to say. It wasn't supposed to be like this. The lie that got them here wasn't supposed to lead to this. It wasn't supposed to leave anyone hurting. It was supposed to give her and Rowan a chance to get away. But instead she was going to leave a heart broken and there wasn't much she could do about it. Not unless she wanted to put their life on the line and that wasn't an option. The two of them locked eyes and she had to keep from breaking down right then and there. "We- ...I can't bare to lose anyone else." "You won't lose us.." She reached gently reached a hand out for his. "You won't lose me." She added. "But you have to let us protect you both and no matter what you can't follow us." Belle was lying, again. But she couldn't just tell him that the two of them were bound to die. The twins would never let them go and do something reckless in order to keep them safe. It wasn't worth it. Their lives weren't worth it.

ImageRaelyn noded at Rowan to show that she understood. They were leaving at noon. She was going to make them a cake and fabulous lunch. She wanted them to know that they would always be welcomed here in their home. Rae was reluctant to let go of Ro's hand, they felt nice in hers, but she did and gently wiped the tears that remained on her cheeks. "I need to go lock up the barn.." She said quietly as she stood up. "Thank you uh again for doing the dishes." She said, smiling a bit at him. She moved around the chair and started making her way out of the kitchen. She did actually needed to tend to the barn, but she also wanted to cry without being heard. She didn't want Rowan to feel as though he needed to console her. He was also probably tired of her talking so much. The farmer girl pushed out the door and started her way out towards the barn, tears starting to fall down her cheeks again.

ImageIzzy had never been the most skilled at reading people but it didn't take a genius to figure out Belle was lying. For what, he didn't know. Maybe it had something to do with protecting him and Rae, but Izzy didn't want to be protected. The last thing he wanted to do was sit back arms crossed and let her and Rowan do everything. But what else could he do? He and Raelyn were just humans, powerless compared to witches and warlocks. Izzy had never felt so useless before.

"Fine..." he muttered, followed by a sigh as he mustered up the courage to lock eyes with Belle. "But at least tell me...how much longer do we have you for?" Isaiah hoped she wouldn't lie about this, so at the very least he could make the best out of the little time they did have left. They had walked so far from the house now, it was no longer in view. The sky above them shimmered with an uncountable amount of glimmering specks and Izzy wondered if his parents were somewhere up there watching over them. If they were here, they would surely know what to do.

ImageA small part of Rowan wanted to grab onto Raelyn's hand and pull her against his chest, holding onto her for as long as possible. But he simply nodded and let her go, deciding that the former would only make things worse for the both of them. He watched in silence as she pushed her way out the door, and the warlock could only guess she really just wanted to go cry in private. He let out a sigh, letting his back rest against the kitchen counter.

He'd been through enough in his lifetime, things that should have prepared him for something like this. Saying goodbye to people had never been difficult for him, considering he never truly felt a connection with anyone save Belle. It should have been easy, so why did he feel like his chest was tight and the back of his eyes were beginning to burn? He swallowed the lump in his throat and moved over to the fridge to get a cold drink of water, hoping Belle would be back soon. They needed to go over their fight plan.

Image Arabelle was just glad that Izzy even agreed to not follow the two. She was worried that he would have protested and attempted to go after the magical beings. Rowan and her would have had to use magic on them and that is the last thing she would have wanted. "But at least tell me...how much longer do we have you for?" It took everything to say that they had tonight. Belle didn't need to talk to Rowan to know that they would be leaving first thing in the morning while the two of them are asleep. It will be easier if they just disappeared, though it will hurt more. "We will be leaving sometime tomorrow. The sooner we go, the better. For everyone." It was hard having to do this. Rowan was always this blunt, open, and honest. Belle was not. Sparing feelings was something she was genuinely good at. In fact she was sparing Izzy's feelings by lying about when they were leaving. She could handle that backlash. What she wouldn't be able to handle, was him dying on her behalf. The witch glanced over to where the house used to be. She didn't even realized they had even wandered so far. "We should head back to the house. I'm sure Ro and Rae are worried." She said, no longer wanting to speak about the unpleasantries that were to come.

Image
Raelynn hated how emotional she could be. She had left Rowan so that she could cry. She should be by his side, enjoying that last few moments she has with him. He had promised that they would both come back, but who knew how long that would be. She wiped her tears and finally put down the brush. The farmer had been brushing the horses hair this entire time. A soft giggle left her and she sniffed. Even when sad, she tends for her creatures. Rae finished putting everything away in the barn and walked out, wiping her tears. Raelynn didn't want it to look like she had just been crying for five minutes. She walked back to the house and slipped through the side door. Rowan was still in the kitchen and she could not hear the sounds of her brother or Arabelle. Rae wiped her eyes some more, hoping they weren't as red as she thought they would be. "They still aren't back?" Her concern was shifting from tomorrow to where they others were. It was getting dark and she hated when her brother was out past dark. The farmer girl turned to look out the screen door, trying to see if she could spot them. But also to hide her face. She didn't want Rowan to feel obligated to address her sadness.

ImageIsaiah had never been the most perceptive when it came to others, but even he could tell Arabelle was hiding something. " We will be leaving sometime tomorrow. The sooner we go, the better. For everyone." There was something about the way he said it that didn't feel right, but Izzy so very badly wanted to believe it to be true. So he did. He chose to believe that they would at least give him and Raelyn a chance to say goodbye. "Right, let's go. Rae is probably worrying way more than she should." he muttered as they turned to walk back towards the house. There was an odd feeling in the air as they made their way back, something Isaiah couldn't put his finger on but he definitely didn't like.

He watched his feet kick the dirt as they walked, his mind wandering into the future and what it would be like after Arabelle and Raelyn leave. They hadn't been at the farm for very long, yet it felt as if they were meant to be there. There was so much Izzy wanted to ask but didn't know where to start. So much he wanted to tell her but didn't have the guts to. But he also knew he might never get the chance to again. "Hey, Belle..." his voice was low but firm as he turned on his feet, coming to a stop in front of her. His eyes searched her features for any signs of what she could be thinking. "I.." maybe he was just a dumb human to her, and perhaps she'd met many. But if there was any chance she could remember him among all the others, Izzy was going to take it. Before his own sense of doubt could overpower him, he stepped closer, eliminating the distance between them. His hands gently cupped her face and all of a sudden, their lips were locked. Perhaps this was the only chance he'd ever get to tell her how he felt, and he wasn't going to lose it.

ImageRowan hadn't realized he zoned out until Raelyn's voice broke through the silence. The Warlock quickly cleared his throat before turning to look at the farmer girl. She asked about her brother and Belle, to which Rowan didn't have an answer. At least not much of one. "Don't worry, they're safe." he assured her. Arabelle's magic may have still been weak as a result of her little stunt with the book, but it was strong enough for Rowan to sense her nearby. He set the glass down before turning to face Raelyn, who in turn was faced away from him. "If something had happened to Belle, I'd know it." he added, hoping to calm at least one of Raelyn's worries.

There was a moment of silence before Rowan stepped close enough to Raelyn for her to be at arms' length. "Hey..." he carefully placed a hand on her shoulder, turning her around to face him. It was instantly obvious that she had been crying the entire time she'd been gone. Without so much as a warning word, Rowan set aside his cold exterior and wrapped his arms around her. He carefully tucked her head under his chin, his arms holding her as if he were trying to keep her on her feet. He'd never been good with words, but gestures like these seemed to come easy when he was around Raelyn.

ImageThey began walking back to the farmhouse and several things were running through the witches mind. They had a plan to runaway, but where were her and Ro supposed to go. No where was safe. Even if they thought it was safe the coven would find them. Would the twins even let them go? Isaiah seemed less than satisfied with her answer about why they were leaving. What if they were followed. That would put them in more danger. Maybe they should leave tonight when the two are for sure asleep. It would break hearts but it would keep Izzy and Rae safe. Belle glanced over to him for a moment before looking back at the house. If only he could truly understand that she was doing this because she cared for him. Belle would stay here forever if their lives weren’t on the line. In fact she was even starting to hate herself for the pure fact that her actions led her to this inevitable heartbreak. "Hey, Belle..." The witch stopped walking and looked at the farmer before her. Her features were softened now that her thoughts had been interrupted. Arabelle was now trying to figure out what was wrong. Izzy looked as though he wanted to say something but couldn’t. She was going to say something but wasn’t given the chance. Before she knew, their lips were locked.

After processing that Izzy was kissing her, she quickly returned the kiss and she gently placed her hands on his chest. His lips were soft and being close to him just felt right. Belle held this kiss for a few seconds longer. If this was going to be the first and only kiss she gets from him, she wanted it to be a good one. Eventually she pulled away, a soft smile on her face as she moved a hand to cup his cheek. ”I will cherish you, this kiss, and the glass rose you gave me forever.” Izzy will forever have a place in her heart. Belle was trying to think of the various ways that she could convince Roman that they should leave after breakfast. Just so they could have one more moment for goodbye. ”Come on, Izzy. Let’s head inside.” She moved from him, but took hold of his hand so they could head inside.

ImageRaelyn’s eyes were glued to the screen door. It was getting darker by the minute and those two had not returned. She was normally always worried about her brother and him being out past dark, but now they had learned about this imminent danger. There was just more to worry about. Rae knows that Izzy would be safe with a witch by his side, but she was worried about Belle too. "Don't worry, they're safe." Rowan must have realized how much Rae was freaking about about those two still being outside. He wasn’t worried so she was trying to relax a bit more. They would be back soon and they would be back unharmed. She returned to reality when Rowan’s hand touched her shoulder. Rae was turned around and she could no longer hide her obvious sadness. Her eyes were still red and puffy from crying. The farmer was trying to hide it from the warlock so that he did not feel the need to deal with it. But she couldn’t stop him from hugging her. And she honestly didn’t want too. Raelyn needed this hug. She wrapped her arms back around him, holding him closer to her. She melted into the warmth of his hug and he somehow managed to make her feel like everything was going to be okay. For someone who usually hides all his emotions, he was very attuned to hers. He knew that she was freaking out about the two outside and knew that she needed a hug. ”Don’t go..” She whispered softly. She knows that she agreed to have them leave, but she wasn’t happy with it. Any effort she can do to make them stay she is willing to try.

ImageThere wasn't much going through Isaiah's head when he decided to kiss Belle. Nothing other than this being the one and only chance he may get to show her how he felt. The possibility of getting rejected hadn't even crossed his head. Not until his lips were on hers and panic immediately began to settle in. Belle was beautiful, smart, powerful. She was miles upon miles out of his league. What could a poor farmer boy have to offer? And yet, much to his surprise, she returned the kiss. Even more to his surprise, she didn't apologize or show any signs of regret after the kiss was over.

His lips morphed into a sheepish smile as she spoke, remembering the gift he had given her before. At the very least, she would have something to remember him, even if...

”Come on, Izzy. Let’s head inside.” he nodded, following her lead as she took his hand. There was something about the way their hands fit together so perfectly that felt...wrong. Like he wasn't supposed to be happening, but by some force of nature it did and neither one of them wanted to oppose. They walked a bit longer, eventually making it back far enough to see the lights radiating from the kitchen window. Izzy continued to walk in silence but his mind immediately wandered to what Raelyn and Rowan would think of them holding hands like this.

ImageRowan had always been terrible at expressing his emotions, which is why he'd always opted to stay quiet. But there were times, very rare times when his actions spoke volumes. This hug, this moment, was one of them. He poured every ounce of sadness he felt but didn't dare to speak into his embrace. His arms held Raelyn tighter than he'd ever held anyone. There was something about the way she gave into his arms that made him want to forget everything. Forget the coven, forget he was a warlock, forget it all and stay. But that wasn't possible. ” Don’t go..”

His stomach twisted at the sound of her words and he would have given anything to agree with her, but that would be a dangerous and stupid move. "I'm sorry Rae..." he let his head rest on hers for a moment before speaking again. "I will do everything in my power to come back safely..." He wasn't lying. He would rather kill himself before letting the coven get to him. But that wasn't something Rae needed to know. The hug continued for a bit longer until footsteps were heard outside the door. He carefully detached himself from her just in time to see two shadows approaching the kitchen. "See? I told you they were okay."

Their hands fit too perfectly together. It was almost as if the universe had created this moment just for the two of them. Everything just felt so right in a time that was supposed to be wrong. When they were supposed to be saying goodbye and separating themselves from one another. Instead they had formed an even stronger bond that was sealed by a kiss. The feel of his lips continued to linger on her own and she was trying not to give off the fact that she was going to have to be buried with her glass rose. The light from the house was now in view and they continued walking until they slipped through the kitchen door. Her eyes immediately found Rowan and Raelyn, whom seemed to be in the kitchen waiting for them. "See? I told you they were okay." Belle smiled, not letting go of Izzy’s hand. ”Hi. Sorry we were gone for so long, Rae.” The witch just assumed Raelyn would have been the one to worry. Ro and Belle can magically sense one another, so they never really have to worry.

Raelyn was sad that Rowan pulled from the hug, but there was only so much she could ask from him. The fact that he even hugged her really showed how much he cared about her. She was holding him to his promise. She doesn’t know what she would do if he didn’t ever come back. Or worse. She didn’t have time to worry about that, Izzy and Belle finally came back. She smiled back at Belle, raising an eyebrow as she saw the two of them holding hands. Another thing that she wasn’t going to address at the moment. ”That’s okay. I am glad you guys are safe.” A yawn escaped her. Raelyn didn’t even realize she was tired. All that worrying about everyone else that she was not paying attention to her need for sleep. She looked to her brother. ”Please make sure that these two get to their rooms okay..” Then she glanced over to Belle. ”See you at breakfast.” Raelyn wasn’t asking. Belle could tell the farmer was serious about being here in the morning so she just nodded. ”Good night.”

Without even thinking about it, she leaned up and placed a sweet kiss on Rowan’s cheek. It was mostly as a thank you for easing her nerves about everything. She, however, was not sticking around to explain anything. Raelyn took her leave and retreated upstairs to get ready for bed.

Belle waited for Rae to disappear before smiling brightly at Rowan. There were so many questions circling in her head and she was sure that he could tell she wanted to ask them all at once. Why did Raelyn kiss him? Why did he let it happen? What happened while they were gone? She was getting light headed with all her over thinking. She then glanced to Izzy. ”Um. I need to talk to Ro alone for a second. I will say goodnight before I go to bed.” She said, mostly so he knew that she wasn’t planning on just running away while him and his sister were asleep.

ImageIsaiah had expected to see Raelyn in the kitchen when they got there. She wasn’t anything if not predictable. She had probably been worrying for every second they hadn’t showed up at the back porch. He hadn’t fully expected to see Rowan there however, and most definitely not to see Raelyn give the warlock a kiss. There was clearly a lot that they had missed, and Belle seemed to be thinking the same. Rae had tasked him with making sure the two made it to their rooms, but Belle asked to be left alone with her friend. Izzy took a moment to look around before pointing towards the stairs. ”I’ll just-“ he didn’t even bother to finish his statement before taking his leave.

He made his walk up the stairs and made himself comfortable on his bed, his mind wandering back to the kiss he and Belle had just shared. It wasn’t a goodbye kiss. Isaiah wasn’t going to allow it to be that, even if it meant staying up all night to make sure the two didn’t leave without his knowledge.

ImageRowan stood frozen in his spot, his eyes revealing the tiniest bit of surprise as Raelyn kissed his cheek. There was a feeling in the pit of his stomach that he’d never quite felt before, though he wasn’t entirely sure how he felt about it. And just like that, she was gone, living him behind to deal with the aftermath. He hoped Arabelle wouldn’t make a big deal of it, but judging by the look on her face, Rowan knew that wouldn’t be the case. His eyes shot to Isaiah the moment she asked him to leave, hoping the farmer boy would be his stubborn self and insist on staying, but that too was wishful thinking. Eventually, it was just the two of them in the kitchen. There was a long, thick silence before Rowan turned to look at Arabelle, making sure to speak before she. Luke say anything. ”Tomorrow morning.” there was no need for him to explain what he meant. She knew exactly what they had to do. ”I’ll reinforce the shield around the farm before we leave, and see if I can make it a little bigger.” his eyes focused on the glass of water now in his hand as he chose to avoid the subject of the kiss as well as the matter of Belle and Isaiah holding hands.

ImageArabelle was slightly expecting Isaiah to protest and want to make sure that the two of them actually made it their rooms and sleep. That guaranteed that the magical beings weren’t going to just slip out the back door. However, that was not the case. Izzy agreed and Belle reluctantly released his hand so that he could disappear up the stairs. It was just Rowan and Arabelle in the kitchen now. The silence between them was awkward for the first time and suffocating. Belle didn’t even know where to begin. She knew they needed to talk about the plan for tomorrow, but she was also curious about the heart that had developed. ”Tomorrow morning.” That actually caught her off guard. He thought that he would have wanted to leave at midnight and Belle was more than ready to beg him to let them leave after breakfast. But there was no need. Arabelle nodded in agreement. They would leave tomorrow morning. ”As long as its after breakfast, otherwise Miss Rae will kill us before the coven does.” She meant it as a joke.

The witch still wanted to question him about that kiss and what happened between the two of them, but she decided to spare him. He was already avoiding eye contact with her. ”We are idiots.” was all she said about their feelings they developed for the farmers. ”Goodnight, Ro.” Belle walked by him and then skipped up the stars. As promised, she was going to check on Izzy like she said. She knocked lightly and then just let herself in, shutting the door behind herself. ”You better be awake Izzy. I didn’t get to say goodnight yet.” She teased, walking over to his bed.

ImageThough Isaiah hoped Arabelle would actually come by and say goodnight, a small part of him still worried that she wouldn’t. That she would choose to avoid painful goodbyes and just leave before he and Raelyn even got a chance to send them off. However much to his surprise, she kept her word. Belle slipped into bed with him and though Isaiah knew this would only make things harder, he welcomed her with open arms. They stayed awake for a while, talking about nothing and everything, until eventually, the room became silent. Isaiah fell into his usual deep sleep, even more so now that he had company and warmth next to him. His eyes slipped open for a fraction of a second as he moved over carefully to avoid the light of the sun seeping in through the window. Belle still seemed to be in dreamland, so Isaiah let his eyes skip closed again as his thoughts drifted back into a calm sleep.

Rowan has never been the type to fall into deep uninterrupted sleep, but that night more than others he struggled to sleep. Thoughts about everything raced through his head. About the coven, about him and Arabelle and about what would happen to the twins if they couldn’t protect them. These thoughts kept the warlock awake for hours until eventually exhaustion became too intense and sleep won over worries. He continued to toss and turn in his sleep, even waking up every few hours to look around, but tried as best as he could to get some rest. When morning came, Rowan has finally settled into a somewhat tranquil sleep.Image But his subconscious didn’t allow it to last. He began to see blurred visions of what looked like members of the coven. They continued to come closer Meanwhile he couldn’t move. There was a heavy pressure in his head that made it pound to the point of waking him up. The warlock sat up in bed, his eyes wide and frantic as he slowly realized that his visions weren’t just a short nightmare. Before his thoughts could catch up to his body, he was already getting up off the bed. He ignored his shoes and rushed first to Raelyn’s room. The house was quiet, seemingly peaceful, but Rowan knew something was terribly wrong.

He pushed the door open, ready to call our Rawlyn’s name only to realize she wasn’t there. Common sense said she was probably out in the farm doing what she did every morning, but experience told him that wasn’t all there was to it. He shit the door again, opting instead to go to Arabelle. The door to her room was open, and her bed looked untouched. His first thought was to ask Isaiah, hoping that at least he would be where he was supposed to. He slammed the door open but quickly realized he didn’t have to ask. His eyes met Arabelle’s and he immediately knew he wasn’t imagining things. ”They’re here…”

Arabelle was happy when she was asleep. She was in Isaiah’s arms and she was enjoying every second of it. He was so warm and inviting. It was one of the first times in her life that she has felt love and she had to leave it. Leave behind the happiness, the love, and the acceptance. It didn’t help that her dreamless sleep was beginning to be plagued with nightmares. Flashes and glimpses of the coven leaders walking towards the farmhouse. She continued to toss and turn as the flashes became more vivid. The witch had the bad feeling in her gut and it was starting to ache in her bones. Eventually the feeling was so bad that she could no longer remain in bed. As soon as she sat up, Rowan came into the room. They locked eyes and it was clear that her bad feeling and nightmares were true. ”They’re here…” They were too late.

She regrettably climbed out of Izzy’s arms and ran her fingers through her hair. ”Where is Rae-” Her question was cut off by a scream. The witch’s face paled and she sprinted out the bedroom door. She was really hoping that the scream was just from Raelyn being clumsy and she hurt herself. They didn’t have her. They couldn’t have her. Arabelle didn’t realize how fast she was moving, but she was already out the kitchen door and her heart stopped.

Raelyn didn’t know what was going on. One moment she was feeding the pigs and next she was being grabbed by some stranger. It happened so quick that she couldn’t help but scream. ”Hush.” was all she heard. Rae tried to pull from the man’s arms, but he only gripped it tighter. ”Ah...Arabelle. Rowan. I’m glad I did not have to force you out.” The coven leader, Evanora, noticed that were three other humans surrounding them. ”Really? You thought you could hide among humans.”

Benjamin was still in his pajamas. Once he heard the scream he went running outside with everyone else. His eyes went wide as he noticed Raelyn was in the arms of one of those magical creatures. ”Raelyn! Let her go!” He said. The second in command, Saruman, rolled his eyes at the human. ”You are in no position to make demands human.” He said. Arabelle and Rowan were supposed to be long gone by now. This wasn’t supposed to be happening. ”Evanora. Let her go. She has nothing to do with anything. None of them know anything.” Evanora held up her hand as if to stop Arabelle from talking. ”If they are with you, these humans are not worth their lives.”

To say Isaiah was confused would be an understatement. One moment he was peacefully laying in bed with Arabelle. He was mostly asleep, though every now and again he would wake up just enough to readjust himself. The house was quiet and peaceful and the two remained in bed until Izzy felt Belle moving beside him. He opened his eyes, prepared to use whatever means necessary to have her stay in bed while he and Raelyn. mostly Raelyn, whipped up some breakfast. However, his thoughts and plans were interrupted the moment Rowan came barging in. It took him a moment for Rowan's comment to settle in. The second he realized what he meant by "they", a scream was heard. Raelyn's scream. Izzy knew it all too well.

Before his mind could catch up, his body was already dashing out the bedroom and out towards the back of the house where the scream had come from. His heart pounded heavily against his chest, every possible worst-case scenario running through his mind. Rowan and Arabelle were right beside him. The three made it outside, quickly followed by Ben and Jade. Izzy's eyes automatically landed on Raelyn who was being held captive by a group of strangers. A cold sweat took over his body as the memory of losing both his parents came rushing back. He wasn't going to lose Rae too, he couldn't.

Ben's voice was heard from behind them. Izzy didn't bother to respond, but Rowan did, just barely looking over his shoulder at the both of them. "I suggest you both keep your mouths shut if you want to live to see another day." it was by no means a threat, but rather a serious warning. The more attention they attracted to themselves, the more the coven will be likely to want to take them. "I knew the coven was petty..." the warlock continued as he took a couple of steps forward, giving Arabelle a silent warning to stay where she was. "But I didn't know you'd stoop so low as to harm innocent humans."

Saruman's laughter came again as he took a few steps forward himself. "Since when does Rowan Abner have a moral compass? Don't be ridiculous." Rowan's hands shaped into fists, the anger slowly bubbling inside of him, but he continued to stand ground. "I'm no saint, but even I know what lines shouldn't be crossed." as the warlock continued to move forward, so did his counterpart, until they were almost just a couple of feet apart. "What is it that you want? Arabelle? Me? The book? Take it then." He could feel all eyes were on the two of them and was very aware of how terrified Raelyn was in the hands of these people. "Take us both and your stupid book, we won't protest. But if you hurt a single hair on that girl's head...you will regret it."

Arabelle was going to quiet down the humans, but Rowan was on top of it. In fact it seemed like he was going to try and settle this whole thing on his own. The two of them locked eyes and Belle kept her feet planted on the ground with no intention of moving. Her gaze then shifted over to Evanora, Saruman, and the 3 others standing across the way. Ways to get out of this situation were running through her mind. Belle didn’t want to fight. The whole point of leaving the farmhouse early was to avoid this exact situation. To discuss terms of surrender without the threat of the human safety. But that plan backfired. They already had one in hand. Poor Raelyn was at their mercy and Belle didn’t even know how to free her without making everything worse. Roman was trying to bargain. Her, the book, and himself for the safety of the humans. Saruman did not like that idea. In fact, he was clearly annoyed that Rowan made those demands, threatened him, and was now in some kind of showdown.

Evanora took a couple steps forward and that’s when Arabelle took a few as well. ”Your chance for surrender was over when you left the coven. And your chance for mercy was over when you used the book.” Begging for forgiveness clearly wasn’t going to work. For some reason, Belle saw this going much smoother. She was expecting to meet the coven far away from this place and just die. It was easier and did not require fighting. But of course, things have never exactly gone the way she expected. Raelyn was having a hard time even reading the situation, but she knew it was bad. Something terrible was going to happen and she was powerless to do anything about it. She tugged some more, trying to pull away from the warlock, Gaian, that had a hold of her. But she didn’t budge and he gripped tighter. ”..oww..” she whined and more tears coming down her cheeks. ”Please, Evanora. We will go with you quietly and face whatever punishment you decide.” Saruman rolled his eyes.

”You both have broken all of the coven sacred rules. Your punishment is death. And this is judgement day.” Evanora said turning her back on all of them and walking farther out into the field a relatively safe distance away. She doesn’t get her hands dirty. ”Kill them. All of them. And you…” she said pointing to Cullen, another warlock she had with her. ”...find the book.” He immediately teleported into the house, rummaging around looking for the book that had hidden itself.

Raelyn’s eyes grew wide. This was it. She was going to lose everyone and everything in the blink of an eye. Gaian picked her up off the ground and she began kicking. ”N-no! Please no! D-don’t..” Pleading was pointless, but it was all she could think to do. In Gaian’s free hand, he was forming an energy ball that would have been strong enough to take her out. Benjamin wasn’t even thinking. He was reacting. He took off running in her direction. Belle eyes widened. ”Ben don’t!” Belle started after him, but the last witch, Mave, held up an electric force field and Belle crashed into at full force, flying backwards and falling hard onto the ground.

Benjamin crashed into Gaian full force and he ended up dropping Raelyn onto the ground. But without hesitation, he shoved the energy ball into Ben. It sent the human across the field and he crashed into his car. Broken glass fell around him as he collapsed to the ground, unmoving. Rae’s eyes widened. ”Ben!” Raelyn stood up and tried to run over to him, but Saruman trapped her in a force field, suspending her into the air. ”You. Don’t move.” Was all he said, before locking eyes with Roman. ”You want her. You have to get her.” He teased, ready for a fight.

Rowan didn't want forgiveness. He couldn't care less what the coven thought about them. All he cared about at the moment was getting Raelyn out of Galan's reach. He expected things to be difficult, but he hadn't expected them to take such a downfall so quickly. He was fully prepared to give the coven whatever they wanted in exchange for the humans' safety, but he should have known that trying to reason with them would be like reasoning with a brick wall. They never cared about anything other than themselves and the power they held.

It was no secret the coven was threatened by Rowan's presence, which is why Saruman, the second most powerful of the bunch, kept such a close distance between him and the rogue warlock. Rowan's eyes burned with all the hatred he'd ever felt towards the coven, Raelyn's whines of pain only fueling the fire. The moment Evanora gave the signal to slaughter, Saruman's hand gripped onto Rowan's neck, using his magic to paralyze. He couldn't do anything other than watch helplessly as everything around him fell apart. Galan finding the book was the least of his worries. Rowan had made sure to burn every last inch of it, but not before making a decoy copy. His focus now was entirely on Raelyn and the coven's attempt at killing her.

Jade rushed to Ben's side the moment he crashed against the glass, her cries for help ringing in Rowan's ears. Isaiah ran straight to Arabelle. He couldn't do much, but at the very least he could make sure she wasn't badly injured. He eyed her from head to toe, frantically searching for any signs of damage. "Belle, are you okay?" he felt helpless. His sister was being held captive, Ben was down for the count, Arabelle had been tossed aside like a rag doll and Rowan seemed to be unable to move. Every inch of Izzy's body just wanted to scream, but he knew that wouldn' help anyone. Instead, he stayed at Belle's side in hopes it would keep them both a little safer.

Rowan' blood boiled through his veins, to the point where he could see everything through a red filter. Saruman still had a grip on his magic, and Galan now had a grip on Raelyn once again. ”You want her. You have to get her.” those few words worked like a switch. Something inside of Rowan shifted, and suddenly he was no longer paralyzed, but instead was the one doing the paralyzing. His body had broken free of Saruman's spell, his own waves of energy now blasting from Rowan's body and sending him flying at full force several feet in the air. For a moment, everything was still. Rowan's eyes focused solely on Galan, his usually fiery red aura now displaying streaks of black. "I don't want her..." he took a couple of steps forward. Out of the corner of his eye he could see Saruman attempting to get to his feet again. He trusted Arabelle to take care of it. His target was just a few feet from him. "I want you." an outstretch of his arm was all it took to send a blow through Galan's chest, causing his force field to collapse. He silently willed Raelyn to move as far away from them as she could while he continued to close the gap. "You don't scare me, Galan." his voice was low, almost like a growl. "But I scare you, don't I?" there was a smirk of satisfaction on his face as he gripped the older warlock by the throat, suspending him in mid-air.

Arabelle groaned, shielding her body while laying on the ground. The force field had caught her off guard and the wind was knocked out of her. She was trying to take deep breaths and make everything around her less blurry. Her brows furrowed at the face that came into her vision. "Belle, are you okay?" Izzy? She blinked and he finally came into focus. There was so much concern written on his face. She couldn’t even tell him that everything was going to be okay. This was just the start. At best, only Belle and Rowan will have to suffer. ”I-I’m fine..” She said as she pushed herself up off the ground. She looked over to see Ben was no longer by Raelyn, but was instead unmoving on the ground now next to Jade. ”Oh no.” She muttered to herself. Belle couldn’t stand around. That can’t happen to anything else. ”Stand back.” She told Isaiah as a purple-y aura began surrounding her.

Raelyn was still in shock by the sight of Ben and she couldn’t even get to him. Jade was by his side, unharmed, but she wanted to be closer to him. She was stuck in a forcefield and no matter how many times she hit it, it did not budge. She felt so useless. Rae was just a farmer girl. How was she supposed to help her friends? Her eyes glanced over to Arabelle, who was now displaying a purple aura. Izzy was next to her, but he was safe. Then she looked over to Rowan. His aura was red, but she could see the slivers of black. Her brain was working overtime to remember the colors, but she was so distracted. Without even realizing it, she was freed from the forcefield. Her feet took her right over to Jade and Ben. She crouched down, more tears brimming and ready to fall.

Suruman was scrambling to get back up to his feet, but Arabelle wasn’t going to let him. They needed to even out the playing field. She reached a hand out towards him and pinned him to the ground. She whispered a few words in latin and smirked to herself before lowering her hand. It should keep him pinned for a while. Her and Mave locked eyes and they ran at one another. Belle landed the first hit, punching Mave with a high energy fist blast across the cheek. Mave quickly came at her with her own and the two girls just went back and forth with hand to hand combat use high focused energy on their hands and feet.

Isaiah was at a loss for what to do. Their backyard was in shambles. People were getting hurt left and right. Ben wasn’t moving even a centimeter, Belle seemed hurt despite her denying it, and he was powerless. He felt the uselessness boil in his chest, brewing anger. He had to do something. Anything! He watched with wide eyes as a purple glow covered Belle’s entire body. He wasn’t sure what it meant but Rowan had something similar, except his was red and black. Izzy was several feet away from the warlock, but he could feel a cool air coming from his direction. Chills went down his spine, but he had no time to be scared. He glanced over towards Raelyn who seemed to be okay, Jade too. But the same couldn’t be said for Ben.

From then on, everything happened so quickly. Out of the corner of his eyes, he could see that woman from before. The one that spoke first. Isaiah couldn’t remember her name but he could guess she was the leader of the coven. She made her way towards Raelyn, Ben, and Jade while Belle and Rowan were distracted. The tips of her fingers were glowing, and Izzy could only see things ending terribly. Before his mind could catch up, his feet were already moving. ”Rae, watch out!” in a second’s time, he’d stepped between Raelyn and the woman clearly set on hurting her.

Isaiah’s body became paralyzed from head to toe. There was a stinging sensation that ran from his chest down his left arm. For a moment, his mind went blank. All he could see was the woman’s smirk, and her arm outstretched as her nails bug deeper into his chest. He wanted to scream, yell for help, say anything! But the words caught in his throat and all he could do was watch as the life was literally being drained from his body.

Rowan had no intentions of going easy on Galán. In fact, the more he struggled, the harder Rowan’s grip on his throat became. ”You always treated me like trash, like an insignificant pest. Well, now it’s my turn.” the smirk on his face grew as his eyes shifted colors, quickly matching the glow that covered his body. Galán continued to gasp for air, but there was no part of Rowan that wanted to stop. The more he watched the man struggle, the more he wanted to hurt. He kept it going as long as he could, but eventually, Galan’s body stopped moving. It was only then that Rowan’s grip loosened, and the limp body fell to his feet.

Mave and Arabelle’s battle seemed to be going on forever. Mave was just a bit faster than Belle, but Belle was a heavier hitter. Hanging out with Rowan, taught her a few things about fighting. But this couldn’t continue. She was going to exhaust all her magical reserve before she had the chance to fight Evanora, Suraman, and the one looking for the book. The battle was barely beginning. Belle delivered a calculated blow this time, shoving her hand right through Mave’s chest with a transparency spell. Hand around Mave’s heart, she delivered a strong energy pulse and stopped it. Arabelle removed her hand and the witch fell to the ground unmoving. Turning behind her, she watched as Gaian’s body fell before Rowan’s. Two down. Immediately, her eyes scanned for the twins and her eyes grew wide. Evanora had a hand on Isaiah.

The witch took off running in that direction. She grabbed hold of Evanora’s hand and pulled it out of Isaiah. Raelyn immediately took hold of her brother, examining him with complete worry and fear that she had lost him just as she had lost her parents and now Ben. ”Izzy, please be okay. Please. Please.” Her eyes still filled with tears. Evanora tossed Arabelle aside and she rolled away from the group on the ground. She quickly sat up enough and outstretched her hands. She covered the humans in an electric force field that shocked Evanora as she tried to touch them. For now they were safe. Just as she scrambled to her feet, she could feel her throat closing. Suraman had a hold of her and she was thrashing about. Suraman must broken hold of the gravity spell and snuck up on her. ”Good effort, but they are still going to die.” He assured her as he squeezed tighter.

As oxygen was cut off from her brain, she managed to muttered out a spell making her skin hot to the touch. He immediately dropped her and Arabelle dropped to the ground coughing and gasping for air. Suraman took the time to literally kick her while she was down. She was still rather hot to the touch, so every kick and hit that he was delivering was still burning him. As he was trying to recover from those minor burns, she took it upon herself to stand up, ready to fight him.

Isaiah could quite literally feel the life being sucked out of his body. It started with his limbs beginning to numb, his vision slowly blurred and the rest of his senses became dull. He could hardly make up a figure running towards him. For a moment, he thought it to be Arabelle, but before he had the chance to look again his body fell to the ground with a thud. He could see a blurry version of Raelyn hovering over him, her cries to desperation felt like they were miles again. He wanted to speak, move, do anything that would let her know he could hear her but his body did not want to respond.

”Izzy...Izzy please- sa-say something-” Jade’s voice joined Raelyn’s. They were both within arm’s reach but felt as if they were miles away. For a moment, all Isaiah could do was lay there motionless and hope that Raelyn would be okay. Hope that she’d survive this, that Belle and Rowan and Jade survived this so they could look after her. But if Izzy was anything it was persistent. He refused to give in, not yet. Not when he had people to care for and people that cared about him. His first attempt at speaking was a fail, but he immediately tried again. ”M’fine…” much to Izzy’s surprise, his words came a lot easier this time. Still, he couldn’t move an inch. ”Just- give me...a minute.” he could hear the commotion going on around them, but he simply couldn’t get his body to respond.

Meanwhile, Rowan turned his attention from the limp Galan to a very lively Evanora who appeared to be targeting the humans while Belle remained occupied. His gaze deviated for a moment, long enough to see Raelyn hovering over Isaiah who now lay motionless on the ground. Every tear that fell down Raelyn’s cheek only fueled Rowan’s flames of hatred towards the coven. ”So you think you’re oh-so-powerful now, huh?” came Evanora’s mock as Rowan approached her. ”I hate to break it to you kid, but you’ll never be good enough to-” Evanora’s words suddenly stopped, her eyes masked with something Rowan never thought he’d seen from her; fear. ”What the hell is that…?”

The warlock came to a stop, partially convinced that the woman’s words were merely a method of distraction. A way of getting his guard down in order to attack, but the fear in her eyes and her voice seemed too real. Glancing towards his feet, Rowan could see a combination of red and black hovering around him. As the black spots grew in size, the red slowly vanished until it had been completely engulfed. There was heat, a surge of adrenaline that ran through the warlock’s body, unlike anything he’d ever felt before. It was so satisfying to see Evanora paralyzed with fear, and the closer he drew to her the more he felt the need to rip her to shreds, bit by bit until there was nothing but dust particles left.
