Another addition to the Outcasters series; the purpose of this RP is to play out some of the events which we didn't really get the chance to experience last time, since the third generation was unfortunately cut short, with a focus on two particular characters and their relationship.

Ashley looked over at the digital alarm clock on her nightstand. The bright red numbers were illuminating the bedroom. A sigh escaped the dark skinned beauty as she turned her head away from the clock. She had been awake for a couple of hours now. Ashley was thinking over her purpose in the Remei. She was not strong or powerful like the others. Alexander gave her minuscule assignments, such as attending the college. Listening for gossip about Erieda and her family was not something Ashley was interested in. She would have a better chance infiltrating the dragon realm. With her brother in charge, she could easily figure out what is going on with a simple phone call. It will take some work though since Ashley has recently been rejecting his calls. Another sigh escaped her and she checked the time yet again. If she did not get up soon, she would be late for her classes.

Finally pushing herself up off the bed, she shuffled her way towards the bathroom. It did not take long for her to get ready. The longest part of her routine was taming her hair. It had a mind of its own. Ashley grabbed her phone and backpack before heading out to the kitchen. The kitchen wasn't all that large, but she could not complain about the apartment. She wasn't even paying for it. Rent was on Andrew. Despite how she ignores him, he made sure she wasn't homeless. Ashley had denied their old home so Andrew did this for her instead. Speak of the devil. She denied yet, another one of his calls, sending Andrew to voicemail.

She was not in the mood to cook a hearty breakfast. She grabbed an apple and headed out the door. Ashley started her slow walk to the school. Ashley was going to be late, there was no denying that. The only real reason that she was even going was because who she was stuck with. Pulling out her phone, she decided to shoot her a text message.
;Scavenger
If I don't see you in class I will kill you.

Pocketing her phone, Ashley continued on her way to school. It was not that far away. When she got there, she was not as late as she thought she was going to be. People were just on their way to class. She skipped up the front steps and crossed the threshold. It was time for the worse day ever.

Scavenger's head shot up from her pillow shortly after her mobile vibrated against her cheek, causing a startled grunt to escape her. She remained still for a moment, urging her eyes to focus as she glanced around her limited field of view. Her gaze settled on her phone, which she shifted to pick up, and briefly after opening it, read the text she had received a few moments prior.

Ashley - [ If I don't see you in class I will kill you. ]

At first Scavenger was confused, and gave herself a few moments to process the meaning behind the text, before her eyes widened and she practically sprang out of bed and rushed into the bathroom, where she promptly began running a shower.

I can't believe I forgot... Today was her first day of college, and she was to be attending it with Ashley, who was perhaps looking forward to this even less than she had been. It wouldn't do to abandon Ashley on their first day, not only because it would be a generally shitty thing for her to do, but because she feared her own father's wrath more than anything. He needed her to keep control of things in the college, which was even more important now, considering that Alex was more concerned with trying to win his wife's affections back. He had been dropping a lot of his Remei duties to appease the Fae Queen, which irked Scavenger beyond description.

The red-haired teen released a sigh, and after exiting her shower, continued to get ready, grabbing her phone in the process to text Ashley back.

Scavenger - [ Yeah, yeah, I know. I'm on my way. ]

She left her apartment as soon as she was able, but even then, it was a gamble as to whether she would make it to college before the start of her first class. She had to travel to school by foot, unfortunately, since mortal methods of transport were completely lost on her, and she set off at a steady jog, clutching her bag in one hand with her mobile in the other. If lucky, she wouldn't need to sprint the journey.

Scavenger made it to the college rather quickly, despite the fact that her apartment wasn't as close to the campus as she might've preferred; there was no helping it, her father was as stubborn as anything. After entering the building, she moved quickly through the halls, and was not surprised to find Ashley on her way to their first class of the day. Scavenger picked up her pace for only a moment, aiming to catch up with the girl, a half-hearted smirk slipping its way across her lips. "See? I told you I wouldn't make you do this on your own," she reminded Ashley, absentmindedly pulling the handle of her bag back over her shoulder after it had slipped. "Made it in record time, too." Scavenger decided it probably wouldn't be best to mention that she had slept through her alarms, and almost hadn't come in at all. Pissing Ashley off was something she often hoped to avoid.

As she gave a quick look around the corridor, she chewed her lip for a moment. "Remind me what this class is called again?" she asked, her voice barely louder than a murmur. She had been raised in a completely different system of education; most mortal subjects were lost on her, and since she didn't get to select her own classes, she had no real idea what she was in for. She relied mostly on Ashley's understanding of the realm to help her, because otherwise she would be completely lost.

Ashley checked the clock on her phone. Class was starting soon and Scavenger was nowhere in sight. Pocketing her phone, she was thinking of ways to skip class without alarming Alex. There was no way the dragon would be able to handle this on her own. She has had enough of school. And now she was being forced to attend college because Alex deems keeping an eye out on his children is necessary. When she first assigned this job, it took everything she had not to laugh and walk out. If Victoria had not asked Ashley to take orders from her uncle that is exactly what she would have done. In end, as long as she gets to crawl into bed next to Victoria then everything is fine.

She ran her fingers through her hair, heading towards class. She vaguely remembered the class name. Ashley had glossed over any other unnecessary details such as professor, class duration, and materials needed. But she was not really planning on learning or passing. "See? I told you I wouldn't make you do this on your own" The dark skinned girl looked over at Scavenger, whom had finally decided to show up, and playfully rolled her eyes. The day did not seem so bad now that the pink haired gal had arrived. Ashley may not consider her a close friend, but she was better than everyone else.

"Made it in record time, too." ”You were cutting it close.” Ashley informed her. All that really mattered was that she was here. Though that was not stopping Ashley from thinking of a way to get out of here without alarming Alex. "Remind me what this class is called again?" ”English.”

Ashley led Scavenger towards the back of the classroom. She picked the seats that she felt were the most isolated. Sliding into the chair, she placed her bag down next to her. She leaned back into the chair and crossed her arms. ”On a scale of 1 to raising hell, how mad will Alex be if I skipped after the second class?” She asked, Scavenger.

"English," Ashley replied, and Scavenger cocked her head to the side for a moment, before nodding slowly. If she was correct, English was also one of many mortal tongues of this realm, so she could only assume that the class itself held the purpose of teaching others how to improve their language skills. She and many other members of the Remei had similar teachings, mainly with regards to Demon and Fae realms but it was only because English was her father's native tongue that she had taken such initiative with learning it. She understood the importance of speaking many different languages, but thought it was pointless for her to be taking such a class.

Scavenger allowed Ashley to lead her to the very back of the classroom, which both amused and infuriated Scavenger. Ashley wasn't exactly sociable by anyone's standards, so this was behaviour she should have expected, but at the same time, Scavenger almost found herself wanting to enjoy herself while she was attending college; she wasn't exactly a social butterfly either, but disliked isolation and sought the company of others quite often. Besides, they wouldn't have any fun if they avoided everyone, and Scavenger was not the sort to make a crappy situation worse by taking a negative attitude towards anything and everything around her.

She watched as her companion placed her bag down and sat in her seat, and after a second or two of hesitation, mimicked those actions. She allowed her bag to slip off her shoulder and as she planted herself in her seat, she used her foot the shift the bag under the desk. ”On a scale of 1 to raising hell, how mad will Alex be if I skipped after the second class?” Ashley suddenly piped up, and Scavenger shifted her gaze to the side, giving herself a moment to think about an answer. She found herself gently chewing her own lower lip, before shrugging her shoulders lightly.

"If he found out, we're talking about whole word annihilation," she admitted, now relaxed in her seat with one arm resting on her desk. She tapped absentmindedly against the wood, pausing briefly before speaking up again. "But, truth be told, I don't think he'll really notice... He's infatuated with Erieda," she hissed, as if merely saying the woman's name put a foul taste in her mouth. "Besides, what's the worst that could happen? So he'll miss out on a day of teenage gossip, big deal." She could almost feel a light-hearted smirk slipping across her lips, tugging at the corners, and she shifted her gaze to the front of the class as more and more students began to pile in.

Scavenger shouldn't have been such a bad influence on her subordinate, being the second-in-command meant that she had to take her Remei responsibilities seriously, but... honestly, she thought this was a ridiculous task to assign someone of her stature and skill, even more so Ashley; she was not only a dragon, but a princess. And so, while she knew she probably should have taken a more mature point of view to this issue, she instead found herself wanting to be mischievous. The thought of disobeying her father's orders, with Ashley no less, was as exciting as it was dangerous.

"If you take off, I'm coming with you... You're not about to get on my case about attending classes and then leave me to do this shit on my own. I can cover for us if we do get caught," she continued, before promptly adding, "What did you have in mind, anyway? If you wanna risk getting in trouble, surely you have something in mind?"

"If he found out, we're talking about whole word annihilation," Ashley nodded in understanding. With his Davenport temper, it made sense that he would get that angry. Now the question is would it be worth skipping, with the risk of death as a form of punishment. "But, truth be told, I don't think he'll really notice... He's infatuated with Erieda," Ashley still could not understand why he was willing to throw away everything for her. "Besides, what's the worst that could happen? So he'll miss out on a day of teenage gossip, big deal." Scavenger did have a point. It was the first day of college. And most likely nothing interesting would happen. Ashley was less concerned with the gossip and more interested in who Erieda’s children interacted with. That was more beneficial than who is throwing a party and when.

Her gaze moved from the pink haired girl to the students strolling into the classroom. Ashley leaned farther back into her chair, her face completely unamused. It was obvious that Ashley was antisocial. It is mostly due to her lack of trust for anyone. Her desire to leave was stronger now that the classroom was filling up. At this point she did not care about getting caught. If need be she would blatantly disregard his orders and let him get upset.

"If you take off, I'm coming with you... You're not about to get on my case about attending classes and then leave me to do this shit on my own. I can cover for us if we do get caught.” Ashley looked over at Scavenger as if that was a given. The dark skinned girl did not have any plans to leave the only person she could tolerate here in this god forsaken building. Ashley may want to be alone, but she was not completely heartless. ”What did you have in mind, anyway? If you wanna risk getting in trouble, surely you have something in mind?" Ashley had a really horrible plan and a logical one. Her irrational plan involved burning the entire building to the ground. No building. No school. But that would send a red flag to Alex. He would have the building rebuilt immediately and ship Ashley off to the dragon realm to be dealt with as the elders see fit.

The rational plan involved all of the crap she actually read about some of the classes. Ashley did not pay much attention to details, but she did get a basic idea of a lot of her classes. Like the names and the attendance policy. ”None of our classes check or report attendance. If we miss days then the assignments are online.” She said. But Ashley never planned on turning in an assignment, so there was no need to worry about that. ”So after this class, we can just leave and no one would care.” Ashley finished, checking the clock on her phone. The class hasn’t even started yet and she already feels like she has been here too long. ”Actually we could leave now and no one would noticed or care.” She added with a shrug.

"None of our classes check or report attendance. If we miss days then the assignments are online," Ashley informed her, and while Scavenger tried her absolute hardest to listen, there were certain words that struck her as both unfamiliar and kind of strange. For one thing, she didn't particularly know what an 'online' was... She would probably just have to ask Ashley later on. And, despite her lack of understanding, she still nodded as if she understood. "So after this class, we can just leave and no one would care." Scavenger turned to the front of the class again, checking to see if the adult - whom many had named a 'teacher' - had shown up yet, her gaze shifting only as Ashley pulled out her mobile. Scavenger watched on with subtle curiosity the dark-haired girl managed to work the device with such ease; it had taken Scavenger a long time to figure hers out, and even then required additional help from Ashley. She had the basics down, such as sending texts, but anything else was beyond her.

Eventually, Ashley spoke again, and Scavenger looked up to meet her gaze. "Actually we could leave now and no one would notice or care." Though Ashley's words were accompanied by a shrug, indicating that she didn't mind if they stayed or left, Scavenger knew that she would prefer to leave as soon as possible, and doing so before the teacher arrived was probably the most logical solution to that. As she looked up at Ashley, a mischievous smirk found its place on her lips, and she reached under the desk to grasp a hold of her bag, before pushed her chair back and stood, urging Ashley to do the same. "Y'know, I was actually asking about what you planned to do after skipping the class, but now that you mention it, I suppose there's not much point in sticking around here," she said, and after ensuring that Ashley would follow, she made her way to the front of the class, slipping past some of the students still piling into the classroom and murmuring a quiet 'excuse me' or 'thank you' wherever necessary.

It was a challenge and a half, but once they were out in the corridors, Scavenger glanced around. They were near enough empty, unlike the ones she had seen on the viewing box, where such corridors were full of life. She didn't quite know whether to be relieved or a little disappointed; much like with every aspect of the mortal realm, and subsequently Parkwood. Scavenger pulled the bag strap back over her shoulder with a huff, and walked onwards, before a thought struck her. She turned her head to Ashley. "So, you never clarified what manner of mischief you're about to include me in," she spoke, as if prompting Ashley to inform her of their plans for the morning. It wasn't like she would object to much, but she still like to know what she was getting into.

Ashley waited patiently for Scavenger to say or do something. The dragon might want to leave right away, but if Scavenger wanted to stay then they would have to stay. There was some silence between them before the pink haired girl smirked at Ashley while picking up her things. It was time to go. "Y'know, I was actually asking about what you planned to do after skipping the class, but now that you mention it, I suppose there's not much point in sticking around here," Picking up her own things, she started following Scavenger through the bodies of people. Ashley had not thought about what to do after they left. She just did not want to be in the school with all of those people anymore.

They made it to the empty corridors. Everyone must be in the classrooms. This made it so such easier to leave. No one could comment or say anything to them about needed to get to class. "So, you never clarified what manner of mischief you're about to include me in," Ashley did not know either. She was not expecting to be involved in mischief. That would get them caught. She just wanted to get away from other people. Ashley and Scavenger were worth way more than gossip. But it seems like Scavenger wants to something mischievous that would most definitely be a statement of defiance for Alexander.

They continued to head out of the building. If she were by herself she would have called her brother. That’s usually what she does when she can’t think of anything else to do. Looking over at Scavenger, she shrugged. ”I’m leaving it up to decide what we get into. I already got what I wanted.” she said, referring to the fact that they were no longer in the building.

Just then her stomach growled and Ashley placed a hand on it. ”Change of plans. Breakfast.” She happened to know of a nearby place to eat. Pastries and coffee galore. Once they got outside, she made sure Scavenger was following her towards the cafe. ”Hope you like coffee.”

”I’m leaving it up to decide what we get into. I already got what I wanted," Ashley replied, causing Scavenger to tilt her head to one side in an avian-like manner, a small look of confusion painted across her features, which she used to shield the frustration she was actually feeling. They had abandoned their activities to simply... wander around? She couldn't help but feel a smell sense of regret that she hadn't tried to talk the young dragoness out of leaving, instead of encouraging her.

Suddenly Ashley's hand moved to her stomach as a low growl sounded from it, and Scavenger was a little startled at first, before sense returned to her; such things often happened to those who required food to maintain their bodies. Scavenger was a Wraith, and had no such needs, which meant that she never felt hunger. "Change of plans. Breakfast," Ashley said. "Hope you like coffee." Scavenger released a quiet sigh, having seemingly given up on trying to understand anything and everything around her, not even wishing to signal her confusion in order to prompt an explanation. She knew nothing of this 'coffee', so she could not say whether she liked it or not. By this point she figured Ashley might understand her enough to know this, but she was wrong.

They arrived at the café a short while after leaving the high school and Scavenger allowed Ashley to direct her towards their seats. She looked around with immense curiosity in her eyes, chewing her lower lip before sighing. This was a strange environment, but by looking around she knew that Ashley had picked appropriate seats. The tables around them were covered in unknown substances, including dried puddles of something brown and miniscule white grains. Scavenger took a glance at a tall piece of colourful paper, on which she could just about make out the words. She crossed her arms over each other and placed them on the table, leaning forward to get a closer look, which admittedly did not help in the slightest.

Scavenger stayed like this for a few moments, before her slightly widened eyes focused once again on her companion. "Um... Ashley," she started sheepishly, "I don't know any of these words." While she had once thought she wouldn't ask for help, she managed to push past her frustration at their situation and instead decided to search pleadingly for assistance, sitting up straight with an exasperated huff. "The mortal realm seriously sucks," she whispered under her breath, her fingers curling into her palms as her hands still rested on the table.

In silence, the two of the them made their way to the cafe. This was one of the few times she has ever eaten in front of Scavenger. The dark haired gal could not remember for the life of her if she ate or not. Ashley knew that Scavenger was a wraith, but she was not completely familiar with what they entails. Scavenger spent most of her life in a different realm. Though they did not have earthly customs, they had to have eaten. If not all the time, a few times. But now Ashley could not remember if food sustained them or some other form of energy. She was soon going to find out.

Ashley picked a table that was much cleaner than the. But for good measure, she took a napkin from the dispenser and wiped the table. She slid into the booth across from the pink haired gal. A nearby waitress dropped off two menus before walking away again. What Ashley liked about this cafe was the minimal conversation. Most of the servers knew that she was not one for small talk and none has ever attempted to force it upon her. When they did, she just responded with a glare.

Picking up the menu, Ashley’s eyes glanced over it. She already knew what she wanted. It’s the same thing she gets every time she eats here. She really only checks the menu to make sure they did not remove her meal. "Um... Ashley,” Ashley looked up from the menu. "I don't know any of these words." The dragon princess made it note to remember that Scavenger is not familiar with earthly foods. She placed the menu down and smirked at Scavenger’s comment about the earth realm. ”It’s okay. I will order for both of us. Just eat whatever looks good on the plate. She assured the wraith.

The waitress came back with her notepad out and a wide smiled plastered on her face. Ashley was not returning the friendliness. ”Ready?” With a nod, Ashley began to order. ”Two orders of the big breakfast platter. Eggs have to be scrambled. And instead of two pancakes make it three.” She took a moment to make sure the waitress wrote all of that down. ”And two orders of coffee.” Ashley handed both menus over to the waitress and watched her walk away. The breakfast platter had everything; eggs, bacon, sausage, hashbrowns, and pancakes. It seemed like a lot of food but Ashley was not only feeding herself, she was also feeding a dragon. There had to be something on there that Scavenger would enjoy. The coffee was just a guess.

Her eyes went back to Scavenger. They wandered her for a moment before making eye contact. ”Would you go back to live in your realm if you had the chance?” She going back to the earth realm comment. Though it was funny and sometimes true, she was curious to know if Scavenger would want to go home.

"It’s okay. I will order for both of us. Just eat whatever looks good on the plate," Ashley said, and Scavenger looked up with a gentle smile upon her lips despite the smirk she received for her comment. She was thankful at least that the young dragoness had offered to help her. This was becoming more and more of a regular occurance where the two were concerned, and Scavenger disliked it. She didn't like feeling useless, like a useless child who constantly needed to depend on others when they were stuck, and she felt like a burden on Ashley, who didn't want to be here at all let alone being forced to work alongside someone who didn't know right from left.

Interrupting her thoughts, the waitress came over again and Scavenger could not take her eyes off Ashley, who ordered what she assumed was a nice dish. "Two orders of the big breakfast platter. Eggs have to be scrambled. And instead of two pancakes make it three," she said. Scavenger raised an eyebrow as her companion ordered with such confidence, whereas she only managed to recognise one type of food; eggs. She wasn't particularly fond of them but would eat them if there was nothing else, although she didn't understand the 'scrambled' part. "And two orders of coffee," Ashley added. Scavenger casually leaned back in her chair, her hands gripping onto the edges of the table, and as the waitress left, she released a huff. "Well then," she murmured, "I guess that's that." She just hoped to all the known gods that she could actually consume some of the food that had been ordered on her behalf. Wraiths didn't need to eat but could consume and digest food if necessary, same went for liquids.

Suddenly Ashley settled her gaze on the young Wraith, to which Scavenger replied with a strong silence, not bothering to smile. She'd done that too much so far, she didn't want to look creepy. It was uncharacteristic for her to be nice to anyone, and while the urges were all to common when she spent time with Ashley, she also knew that the young dragoness might pick up on her swift changes in behaviour. She wouldn't want Ashley to get the wrong idea, especially with Victoria looming over her shoulder. "Would you go back to live in your realm if you had the chance?" she asked, dragging Scavenger from her thoughts. She chewed her lips thoughtfully.

She thought for a few moments, before nodding, perhaps a little too enthusiastically. "Of course I would," she replied, as if the answer should have been more than obvious, but it was more for herself than it was for Ashley. She hesitated, as if there was any reason to think about it. Scavenger wasn't opposed to experiencing new things but as previously mentioned, she didn't like feeling helpless and that's all that she had been allowed to feel since she set foot in Parkwood. She liked knowing what she was talking about, why people behaved the way they did, which customs/beliefs were common and accepted. She knew none of these things about humans, but was all too familiar with them when it concerned Wraiths and Demons alike. "I miss the Wraith realm. I understood things there, and nobody thought I was weird or questioned why I am the way I am. Nobody wanted to hunt me and I didn't have to be careful about what I talked about, what I did, the powers I used," she began again, crossing her arms over her chest. "I feel restricted here."

Scavenger began fiddling with a napkin that was on the table, absentmindedly pulling little bits of the egdes off and placing them in the centre. "But you grew up in this realm, right? Did you spend any time in the dragon realm?" she asked, wondering if Ashley was as unfamiliar with the dragon realm as Scavenger was with the human realm.

Ashley kept her eyes on the pink haired gal, as she started to think about the dragon’s question. Ash could not imagine living in any other realm. She has been in the mortal realm so long that the dragon realm has become foreign. "Of course I would," There was some silence. Ashley did not push for answers. She wanted a genuine explanation for why she would go back. "I miss the Wraith realm. I understood things there, and nobody thought I was weird or questioned why I am the way I am. Nobody wanted to hunt me and I didn't have to be careful about what I talked about, what I did, the powers I used, I feel restricted here." Ashley could only imagine what it would be like to once have freedom to be yourself and then be forced to hide it away. She has been accustomed to human culture. Ashley can’t even remember the last time she used her dragon form.

"But you grew up in this realm, right? Did you spend any time in the dragon realm?" Ashley leaned back into her chair and dropped her hands into her lap. She had not been expecting this question in return. ”I visited when I was younger. My father and brother thought it would be best that I was raised in the earth realm.” She said, with a small smirk. She never questioned why, she was was just excited to experience a new realm. ”But when I was 9, I was uh..” She broke eye contact and dropped her gaze to her hands. ”I was banned from the realm.” Her parents convinced the realm not to imprison her for what she did to Andrew, but she was no longer allowed in the dragon realm. Her home was the human realm.

There was silence between them. Ashley did not know what else to say about her dragon realm. She knew nothing about it. Not anymore. Everything she knows about it came as second hand information from her brother. Her immediate family had forgiven her, but everyone else was still skeptical. It was even worse since she has sided with Victoria. The waitress walked by to drop off the coffee, forcing the dragoness to look up. The coffee was poured and the pot was left on the table. The waitress walked away again. Ashley took hold of her coffee cup, adding cream and sugar to it. She sipped it slowly before gently placing it back onto the table.

Ashley no longer wanted to talk about the dragon realm. It brought up memories that she often tried to forget. Victoria usually helped her forget them. ”So the cream makes the coffee more milk like. And the sugar sweetens it.” Ashley pushed the cream and sugar towards Scavenger. ”Try it first just to see if you like it bitter.” Ash encouraged, wanting to change the topic.

Scavenger's eyes remained planted on Ashley as she leaned back in her chair, dropping her hands with the sort of expression that indicated she was not prepared to provide an answer for that question. Again, she wondered briefly if she should have just kept her mouth shut in the first place; she knew that since Ashley had chosen to side with Victoria, things must have been very tense between her and her family. The dragons were aligned with Erieda and her fae. Victoria certainly wasn't.

"I visited when I was younger. My father and brother thought it would be best that I was raised in the earth realm," Ashley began, the smirk she wore causing a tight smile to find its place on Scavenger's lips. "But when I was nine, I was uh..." she continued, looking down suddenly. "I was banned from the realm." Yep, there it was; the reason she should not have even bothered prying into Ashley's early life. She was of course sympathetic, but she wished to avoid frustrating the young dragoness, and so she felt more regret than anything else. Though her eyes would not indicate as much, not that it mattered. Ashley would no longer look at her, and Scavenger felt the strangest urge to reach out and cup her cheek, to brush a thumb against her jaw. She denied herself this, knowing it would be a step too far, so she merely settled for a murmured apology, her own eyes shifting down to her hands.

After what felt like an eternity of uncomfortable silence between the two girls, Scavenger was grateful for the arrival of their beverages. She peered curiously into the cup, eyeing the dark brown liquid as it lapped at the sides before settling. Ashley's movements quickly caught her interest and she watched with a slight frown creasing her brows at the confusion of what she saw; random substances were being added to it, with no explanation. She thought it might be uncomfortable to stare, so as Ashley raised the cup to her lips and sipped for a moment, Scavenger shifted her gaze to the left, watching as a couple seated themselves at a table not too far away.

"So the cream makes the coffee more milk like. And the sugar sweetens it," Ashley continued, distracting Scavenger's attention from the unknown pair. She looked up at the dragoness, still wearing a slight frown as the things known as 'cream' and 'sugar' were shifted from one point to another. "Try it first just to see if you like it bitter," she continued, to which Scavenger replied with a huff. She didn't know if she would, this liquid in her cup was not exactly the most appealing thing in the world, but then that was to be expected; Wraiths did not find mortal foods and drinks to be appetising, without a desire for such things. She knew she had a sense of taste, of course, but the word 'bitter' - she understood - had rather negative connotations, and she didn't particularly know if she would like it. Still, she would try it, but only because Ashley had asked her to.

Reaching forward, Scavenger's fingers slipped around the cup, fighting the urge to hiss at the heat of it against her skin. Wraiths did not appreciate warmth by anyone's standards, and so this was an unpleasant feeling, but she ignored it as she gripped firmly and lifted the cup to her lips. The warmth against her face made her want to put the cup down again and walk out, but she couldn't. Her eyes would occasionally shift upwards to see Ashley, and she felt the urge to continue. She tilted her cup and allowed the hot liquid to pour into her mouth, burning her tongue. She frowned deeply against the pain, the strain showing on her expression as she attempted not to spit it out and wash her mouth with cold water. As she gulped down the liquid, she placed the cup down on the table, perhaps a little too hard. "Nope, I don't like that," she choked, gasping a mouthful or two of cold air, before she shook her head. She pressed a few fingers to the edge of her cup and shifted it away from herself. Even with the idea that it would be cooler and perhaps more sweet, she didn't want to try anymore of this 'coffee', not for the taste alone but because it would still be warm. It felt unnatural to drink, and it pained her to do so."Forgive me..." she whispered, despite her status. She felt bad, almost as if she had let Ashley down by being unable to enjoy the same things she did.

"I guess the gods were right to make me a Wraith," she joked, attempting to lighten the mood though her voice indicated she was the furthest thing from happy she could possibly have been. She refused to make eye contact with Ashley from that moment onwards, and even debated getting up to leave. "The heat... It's too much for me."

Ashley waited patiently, a small smirk on her face, for Scavenger to taste the bitter substance. She was subtely trying to encourage to try the coffee. Though she has known Scavenger for a while, she did not know much about her. And though her uncle and cousins were Wraith’s she knew nothing about them. She has never actually seen any of them eat, but at the same time she hasn’t exactly spent time with any of them. So she was unsure if the pink haired girl was even capable of digesting any of the food. The skeptical look on Scavenger’s face, put doubt in Ashley’s mind that food was something she was familiar with. The first sip was taken and it was clear that it was a horrible decision. "Nope, I don't like that," For a moment, Ashley believed that Scavenger was going to attempt to make it taste better, but she made no movements towards the cream and sugar. "Forgive me..." The dragoness arched her eyebrow, confused by the apology. It was not Scavenger’s fault that she could not drink coffee or eat. "I guess the gods were right to make me a Wraith," Ashley’s smirk fell into a small frown. Scavenger was avoiding making eye contact and for the first time in a long time, the dark skinned beauty felt bad for even putting her in a position that she was uncomfortable with. "The heat... It's too much for me." Ashley took a mental note of that.

While the silence lingered between them, Ashley tried to think of something to say to perk Scavenger up. She wasn’t supposed to be upset or moody. She was the jokester who always had a playful smirk on her face. Ashley felt even worse now since she was the cause of Scavenger’s saddness. Hesitantly, Ashley reached out for one of Scavenger’s hands. She knew people did this for comfort and that was what she was trying to accomplish. ”Hey. Don’t beat yourself up for it.” She stated, the smirk returning to her face. ”At least you know what coffee taste like.” Ashley was trying to lighten the mood again. It was becoming too emotional for her. The waitress walked by with the two plates of food, forcing Ashley to pull back her hands.

Even after all of the emotional conversation, Ashley was starving. But she was afraid to eat, in fear Scavenger would feel weird or upset about her ability not to eat. The waitress disappeared once again and Ashley did not make any effort to start eating. ”You don’t have to eat anything.” She took hold of her coffee cup once more. ”It’s enough that you are even sitting in here with me.” She reassured the wraith. The last thing, she wants is for Scavenger to feel obligated to eat the food. If anything, Ashley will just pack it up and eat it for dinner. The fact that Alexander’s star pupil ditched gossip duty to join Ashley for breakfast was more than enough for the dragoness. Eating was not on the list of requirements to hang out with Ash.

Scavenger felt awkward under the heavy weight of the silence between herself and Ashley, and she still couldn't bring herself to look up for what felt like the longest time. The unpleasant heat had cooled some, her natural cold temperature working to heal the burns on her tongue and the inside of her cheeks, but she still felt uncomfortable; as if the heat was working its way through her and providing a warmth she couldn't stand.

Suddenly, she felt a soft hand brushing against the skin of hers, causing her stare to shoot towards Ashley, her cheeks turning a soft shade of pink. Such gestures were uncommon between the two girls, but not completely unwelcome - at least in Scavenger's mind. It was almost strange to her that Ashley would do something like this, especially having been claimed by Victoria. The woman was a vile, inhuman creature, a true Demon. Fearing what she might do if she found out about the touch - strange though it might sound - removed any and all of Scavenger's enjoyment of feeling Ashley's hand against hers. "Hey. Don't beat yourself up for it," Ashley began, wearing a smirk. "At least you know what coffee tastes like." This caused Scavenger to smile subtly, almost saying, I'd rather not know. They were interrupted by the waitress who was carrying their plate of food. Their plate of hot food.

Scavenger watched with disdain in evident in her expression as the food was set down in front of her, her eyes working over each item on the plate. "You don't have to eat anything," Ashley's voice spoke, distracting Scavenger's attention from the breakfast meal. "It's enough that you are even sitting in here with me." She took a moment to think and sighed quietly to herself, clasping her hands together on her lap and looking down for a second or two. She could not say with any honesty that she wanted to eat the food; she had no hunger, and hence no desire to consume mortal foods. But she wanted to at least try it for the sake of not being a complete and utter awkward mess. And so when she looked up, she gave a tight-lipped smile.

"I will try to eat," she began, "but I cannot do so while it is so hot, so I will wait a moment." Scavenger lifted her hand and clasped the edges of the plate with the tips of her fingers, and almost without effort, began decreasing its temperature. Such a small use of her abilities meant that she did not require a great deal of focus, and so she met Ashley's gaze, perhaps a little more cheery than she had been only a few moments before. It was one of her many quirks; her moods didn't last long. "Please, don't feel that you have to wait for me, I know you are hungry. You should eat."

Scavenger then resumed focus on her own plate, which had cooled considerably - as had the food sat on top of it. She eyed the selection with immense curiosity in her eyes. She chewed her lip indecisively, before looking up at Ashley, then down at the cutlery. "I use the little metal things, right? To eat?" she asked, reaching for one with the forked end and turning it around in her hand for a moment, seemingly observing it and trying to figure out its purpose. Other people seemed to be used it as a way to pick up the food they were eating. She frowned, wondering why they weren't just using their hands, but humans were weird creatures - there was a lot she had to question in this realm. Turning the object around so that the forked end was facing downwards, she carefully lowered it and pierced it into what she knew was a sausage. She knew of them, but she'd never tried one. The fork was hanging from a light grip between her thumb and forefinger as she lifted it up and tried a bite. It wasn't hot, which was good for her, and it didn't take bitter. It wasn't the worst thing she'd been made to try, at the very least. And with that, she felt a little more comfortable, as if she had accomplished some great feat by taking a bite of the sausage.

"So, uh..." she started, suddenly taking note of the silence between the two of them. "I was thinking I might talk to Alex... See if I can get us a more interesting assignment," she suggested, setting down the forked utensil. "Is there anything you'd prefer? It might help if I go in there with an idea, since he won't give us one out of the kindness of his heart so I'd have to give a pretty convincing argument," she explained with a small laugh, though the seriousness hidden behind her eyes suggested that she did not appreciate her father's cruel, professional attitude towards her.
