The floppy disks were large, absurdly so by today's standards, and at least 8-inches in length. Their black sheathes were covered with a fine layer of dust and the white labeling stickers had aged to a light yellow color. The names and dates had all been written in fine print and black ink, all miscellaneous: Richard Vicker, Leon Gurevich, Sarah Hoffman, Ivan Inzaghi, etc... The dates were sparse: 7-12-88 was the earliest, the latest was 23-4-05. The technology would have easily been outdated by that time. A single floppy disk stood out of place, free of dust, almost intentional. The print was more of scrawled than written and the name full; it was Golikova's. It was dated 6-4-09.
The metal prism on the desk, upon closer inspection, was hexagonal. It had been divided into three sections and scratched into and inked with letters. The two cables which ran from it were insulated with plastic and stiff. They merged with the desk in finely drilled holes and could feasibly have been hooked to something inside- there wasn't an apparent cabinet below the counter top. The three sections were locked onto a single axis in the center, reminiscent of a combination lock.
