I knew she was following me, so after a few double backs and false trails I eventually lost her. Good ridnace, anyway. I now sat in a tree where I could clearly see the lake. The water was so enticing... It had been at least half a day since my water canteen ran out. The hot sun was beating down on my body through the trees. Thats it, I can't take this anymore. I walked around the perimeter of the lake to a spot where the trees were closest to the water. Only about ten yards. Luckily, the majority of the people who were still here were on the other side of the lake, and they all seemed to be concentrating on tending to something. There were only a few patrolling the border, and I was sure I could sneak past them. I looked at the sky, it was getting dark, and there was plenty of shadow to hide in. I could get in there, fill my canteen, and get out. I had done much riskier operations in my lifetime anyway. With that reassuring thought, I proned in the tall grass, and, sticking to the shadows, slowly crawled towards the lake.
