Ariadne stepped from the carriage and let out a long, tired breath as she looked up at the palace looming infront of her. It was a beautiful palace with lights strung up as decoration for the ball she was about to walk into. She strolled up the steps to the door, nodding to the two guards on either side as she followed the maid who was to lead her to the ballroom. It was exactly as she expected it to be when she walked into the large dimly lit room and she was all but thrilled to be apart of it. When Ari first heard of the ball and the circumstances surrounding it, she immediately refused to take part in it. The cliche princess who sat around preparing to be a wife and dreaming of the day her prince walked into her life was everything Ari wasn't. She never wanted to get married, and the fact that she was getting forced into it disgusted her. But, that was the life of a princess and though she'd had to live it for the past five years she would never get used to it all.

She remained by the door, her gaze sweeping over the ballroom slowly as she took it all in. Everyone was in masks, as expected, and dressed in their finest clothes. Some were already dancing though it was still early, and some were chatting with drinks in their hands. She made a mental note to make her way over to the drink table later; she knew she'd be needing it. Ari took in a deep breath and folded her arms over her chest as she felt a familiar presence close to her.

"What are you doing here?" She asked, her gaze continuing to sweep over the ballroom as she wondered who she was to be paired with. Surely not the fat man standing in the corner checking out the ladies as he stuffed his face. She couldn't help but grimace at the thought. Though she wasn't a shallow girl that focused on someone's physical appearence, there was still a limit.

"You know what I'm doing here. I'm supposed to make sure you don't get yourself into trouble, remember? That's what a personal body guard usually does." Kale replied, stepping up behind her. "Besides I couldn't resist. I wanted to see for myself who the unlucky fool stuck with you would be. Maybe offer him my regards and give him some pointers so he doesnt piss you off and end up dead. I pity the man already." Kale teased, a smirk spreading across his lips. Ari turned to face him, her eyes narrowing on his. He too was wearing a mask and a nice suit, probably to blend in with everyone else. The black mask covered half of his dangerously handsome face and matched the silky black locks that fell over his forehead, also bringing out the shocking blue color of his eyes. She hadn't seen him in a suit in years, not since they were younger and the jacket drapped over his bony shoulders awkwardly.

"You look stunning by the way, I almost didn't recognize you." He folded his arms over his chest and leaned back against the wall lazily, his eyes sliding over her from head to toe.

"It's a shame I couldn't say the same for you." Ari replied, turning away from him. She was lying of course, but lying was something she excelled in. "And I'd keep those so-called pointers to yourself. It would be following those that would get him killed." She muttered, loud enough for him to hear. With that, she moved her way through the room towards the drink table. The dim lights made her red eyes glow softly as they flitted across masked faces as she passed. There wasn't anyone she recognized, but that didn't come as a surprise since Ari barely associated herself with the other royals and avoided any get-togethers like the plague. She picked up a glass of champaigne and downed it quickly, wishing she had some ale. It was going to be a long night.
