Anne had fun during their trip to the town and fortunately got back to the palace before her parents woke up. She was saddened not to meet anyone though. Back in her kingdom, she sneaked back to her room and pretended to be asleep. When it was already 9:00, her mother knocked on her door. She opened it and pretended to rub her eyes. " What is it, Mother? " Anne asked her mom. Her mother smiled at her and said, "You are to attend a ball later on, so you must pick a gown to wear. And pick a mask " her mother said and left.

Amanda entered her room and told her that she was to choose a gown from several gowns that were shown to her. There were hundreds or maybe thousands of them. She couldn't pick a gown before lunchtime. But after a few moments after eating, she chose a nice gold gown with a white lining. It was just the right gown for her. It was not too big and it won't really be a bother to her. She will wear black shoes that matched her gown.

5:00 came and she was to ride her carriage and go to the ball. Her mask was in her hand, and it was colored black and gold. She really didn't want to attend, if it weren't for her mother. She wanted to sleep and meet some common people in town, rather than to go to the ball. After some time of riding the carriage, the driver announced that they have arrived. Amanda helped her down and the driver led her to the massive doors where the ball was currently being held. She took a deep breath and entered.

Inside were nobles and people dancing together and talking to each other. But she was a sheltered princess, and she didn't know any other nobles beside the princes that were introduced to her, and she hasn't even paid attention to them. ' I hate it here. I want to go home ' Anne thought as she walked down the path. Nobles and other people alike looked at her as she walked past them. She didn't like getting attention too much. And so, she proceeded to a seat near the side of the room. She sat down, thinking of what to do. Then she remembered that she was supposed to wear her mask.

She wore the mask and looked at the nobles around her. They were having fun, and there she was, sitting alone. " I honestly want to go home " Anne muttered.
