There was darkness. Not the kind of darkness most children are afraid of, but the darkness that awaits you after youâve spent too long on a school project and your mind just doesnât have the energy to even conjure up a dream for you. It just letâs you lie there, oblivious to the world around you, slowly and surely replenishing the energy you so carelessly wasted with all-nighters and procrastination. Itâs a good darkness, the kind you invite in rather than try and force out. Itâs a kind of darkness you rather not be dragged away from.
"Wakey-wakey!â Kita heard the leader shout from the other side of his door.
âNoooâŠ.â Kita moaned, rolling over and snuggling up into his fluffy covers. A soft smile reached his lips in his half asleep state, proud of Sky to be up before midday. He never was up before 8-ish, so seeing him have to knock on Kitaâs door to get him awake was a surprise.
Falling back asleep, Kitaâs thinking began to slow and he quickly fell back into the dreamless sleep he was in before Skylar rudely awakened him. Now if only the sun would stop shining in his faceâŠ
Sun. InâŠhis face? That didnât happen until it was at least 8:10. It was early, it had to be. Or maybe it wasnât.
Groggily Kita opened his eyes, squinting at the clock on his bed side. 8:30am, it said in blood shot numbers.
âAw, dammit!â Kita shouted suddenly bolting out of his bed. Unfortunately he forgot to take into consideration the fact that he was tangled in his covers, which caused him to land face first into the floor, âFuck, owwwww!â he whimpered loudly, sitting up and rubbing his abused nose. His hair was sticking up in random places, frizzy with bed-head. Eyes were wide open and filled with urgentcy. He shot up from the floor and looked around his neat-ish room for a pair of clothes to wear. Something nice but still himâŠwho was he kidding. Jeans and his jacket worked just fine.
Within 5 minutes, Kita was dressed in a green undershirt with a white button-up shirt on top of it, with his favorite navy blue jacket, rolled up to his elbows. Dark wash jeans hugged the curves of his legs and his high top gold Converse fitted onto his feet. He had slicked his hair back with a brush and placed his ever famous headphones around his neck, turning up the music so he could hear it as if he was listening to it on his head.
With a confident stroll he opened his door and walked out, smiling at Teris and Skylar. He passed them and yanked open the fridge, refusing to even utter a word to them until he had sipped his morning juice; strawberry flavored of course.
Scanning the fridge he found some and pulled one out, stabbing the straw through the allotted slot and took a long sip, his eyes closed in pure bliss. When he opened his eyes and looked at the two other occupants in the room with clearer eyes his smile became a grin.
âMorning, Boss!â Kita exuberantly exclaimed to Sky, âHow are you this morning?â He yawned widely in the middle of the sentence, covering his mouth with his hand. Kita glanced at Teris and his grin faltered just a little bit.
Teris didnât look so well, was something wrong with him? Was he okay?
âTeris? You okay?â Kita asked hesitantly, a frown replacing his happy grin. Of course that didnât last very long on his face and he was soon smiling again, âYou didnât sleep well did you? Well I slept wonderfully in case you were wondering. You donât look so well are you sure your alright? I donât want you to get sick,â Kita made a disgusted face, âIf you get sick you might get me sick and you might even get Boss sick too!â He tilted his head at Teris and then shook it, truly hoping he wasnât going to get sick. That was the last thing they needed. He was the 2nd in command, and they needed him. Meds were hard to come by now a days and Kita knew there was going to be a day when meds werenât going to cure anyone, no matter how potent, or plentiful they were.
Sucking on his straw to get more juice, Kita turned back to Skylar, âSo Boss, you ready for that meeting? Weâre gonna play nice with the gangs right? No need for fights and causalities we donât need, not to mention want, you know what I mean and- ohâŠâ Kita looked up when he heard a low thud, âIs that Senerio? He doesnât stop. I should go say good morning. It must be lonely up there all aloneâŠâ Kita trailed off and looked between the two other bodies when another yawn ripped through his mouth.
âFooodâŠand more juice!â Kita giggled and rummaged through the fridge, finding more than enough eggs for the three of them. Though he didnât know if they wanted anyâŠbut he wanted eggsâŠshould they save them? Or did eggs go bad. Kita didnât know, or care for that matter.
Slowly he put the eggs back and grabbed a couple more juices sipping each one contently. When he finished them, in record timing as always, he snagged a carton of ice cream, strawberry flavored, he had stashed in the back of the freezer.
He snatched a spoon from the counter, not caring where it had been and dug into the ice cream, making his way up to where Senerio was.
âNeh, Senerio! We have a meeting today!â Kita yelled at him when he arrived on the roof, watching the older man train, âOh and I have ice creamâŠif you want some that is! I donât mind sharing.â Kita shouted at him again, eating his ice cream with childlike glee.
