Kiku Suzuki
Kiku was on the verge of sleep, his dull and boring room dancing with dream-like lights and shapes. Eyes half lidded and Headphones barely covering his ears Kiku watched the walls with amusement. He could see everything. Sound waves, shapes, colors, people. He knew they werenāt real. But they were funny to look at.
Three hours ago, some scientist came in and pricked him with a needle, claiming it was for āblood workā. He came back a couple minutes later with a syringe, and roughly grasped Kikuās small arm, stabbing the needled into his muscles, ignore the loud gasp and scream of pain that ripped out of Kikuās mouth. With a sick smile the doctor left him there, not bothering to wrap the wound he had made.
Instead, the boy had to apply pressure to his tiny wound, his mind quickly becoming hazed; body slumping over. He let out a groggy moan of pain and laid there in a haze.
That was over 2 and a half hours ago. Nothing had changed; expect for the fact that his powers were super sensitive, causing Kiku to be able to view the sound waves without any concentration. He could not; however, listen in on any conversations for his arms, no his body felt like a lead weight, tying him to his uncomfortable bed.
Whatā¦what was that? the blonde thought, his mind slowly beginning to clear. what did they give me? Will it kill me? His mood brightened at the prospect of dying. I was a failure wasnāt I? They decided to kill me off. I'm useless. As always Kiku managed to quirk his lips in a small smile, his eyes closing all the way, ending the spectacular view of shapes and colors.
BAM
His room/cellās door slammed open and a woman strode in, a furious look on her face.
āAre you able to walk, boy?ā she bit out, glaring down at Kiku, glasses rimming her aqua blue eyes.
Kiku shook his head and opened his mouth slowly, āWhat do you think, bitch?ā he muttered slowly. He didnāt mean to punctuate each word, but with his mind only running on a speed of 4mph, when I usually ran 80mph, it was hard not too.
The reaction was instantaneous; the doctor raised her hand and slapped him across the face, a cruel smirk on her lips and her hand left a red welt on Kikuās face. It wouldnāt have been so bad if her hand fell on the right side of his face. But of course he was lying on that side and her hand struck his still healing scar.
He whimpered in pain and looked up at her, a glare evident in his eyes. Silently he dared her to slap her again, to beat him up and leave him to die.
āAs much as I would love you kill you,ā she snarled, āYouāre important to this experiment.ā
Important how? he wondered still staring at her. His eyes slid closed against his will and he hoped he was going unconscious. And that when he woke this she-bitch wouldnāt be standing next to him.
āOh no you donāt.ā her tone sounded softer, more affectionate, but Kiku figured it was just his imagination, āget up, your due for more experimentsā¦and you canāt use these.ā The female scientist pulled him up by his arm with ease, making Kiku wonder just how skinny and frail he really was. Then again he had always been on the smaller side. When he was standing, with her help for he would have fallen over without it, she used her other arm to plunk the headphones off his ears.
Immediately Kikuās ears were assaulted with sound, and he was able to hear everything that was happening; all at once. His head started to pound against the rest of his skull and it felt like hammers being slammed into his head; which is not a pleasant thing to go through.
His eyes shut automatically, and he stumbled forward as the lady began to move, half dragging, half pulling him with her. His feet tripped over each other along with the floor itself and he cringed at the sound each step made. It was like thunder, and not the kind of thunder that you see a minute after you see the effect; lightening. No, it was the kind that made your house shake, the booming sound rattling your very core. Now times that feeling by four, for he had two feet, and the girl had her own two.
Of course this was not the only sound Kiku had to deal with. The sounds of people being tested on, the screams from everywhere in a 5 mile radius of him could be heard. He tried his best to concentrate on making his powers focus on one sound, but with his mind in a dark haze, he could do nothing. It took all his energy to stay awake and keep his feet moving. No matter how painful it was.
When he was able to open his eyes again, he was sitting in a room, he could feel the thick steel walls around him, with one pressed up against his back. It was pitch black, the kind of darkness kids are afraid of, the fear of monsters popping up out of the blue giving them nightmares.
But it wasnāt dark for Kiku, not for long. His mind was clear, the fogginess of the drugs he was given wearing off quicker than he thought they would. Of course he was happy for this and summoned his powers, the room lighting up in an arrangement of colors; except black and gray.
Suddenly, it was quiet. Kiku had touched none of the sound waves, meaning his mind was honed in on nothing. Not a sound could be heard. That was new. Before he could hear everything until he touched one of the waves. He never had the choice to have silence. Complete and absoluteā¦silence.
Pingā¦
Kikuās head snapped to the left, eyes narrowing at the sound. When nothing else happened, he scanned the air waves for a disturbance, wondering if it would happen again.
Pingā¦
There it was again. But as far as Kiku could see, it didnāt cause a new sound wave on his map. Frightened Kiku began to touch the waves, hoping that one of them would be the sound he could hear right next to him. It was a scary thought to say the least. You can hear something, you can feel it next to you, but you canāt see it. Terrifyingā¦isnāt it?
Kikuā¦deep breathsā¦.inā¦outā¦.inā¦and outā¦good.
Kiku listened to his internal self, his calmer self. The self that didnāt want to die.
Now, listen to me, listen good. Summon your powersā¦good boy. Now how far do you want to be able to hear? Lets try the ground floor.
Ground floor, what did that mean? Nevertheless Kiku obeyed his mind and focused on the ground floor of the building.
Sound waves floated around him, no different then they usually did. However what was different was that they shared a common color. They were brown; from dark brown to light tan, the waves floated around him, embracing him in a warm light.
good, you see? You can focus on a single area. Focus on here. There shouldnāt be much to hear in here. When Kiku nodded, his inner self dispersed, leaving the original Kiku sitting there amazed at what he could do.
Pingā¦.pingā¦..pingā¦ping
Kiku looked around wildly again, a sense of dread crawling over his skin.
clickā¦pingā¦clickā¦pingā¦ping-clickā¦pingā¦click-clickā¦ping
The small boy whimpered in fear and hastily focused his powers on this room, taking in the blue hue he was basked in. Only a few sound waves fluttered about. He touched each one; one was him breathing, another was his heartbeatā¦ah. Here. This must be the weird sound he could hear. With caution, Kiku touched the teal wave. It blinked rapidly, something that was new to him entirely. When it stopped, he could hear the āpingingā sound clearly. But it wasnāt just a ping. It was a voice.
Heās doing splendid, Sir. The drug was accepted by his bodyā¦.yesā¦in there now. Yes sureā¦. pingā¦yes, Sirā¦Sir if I mayā¦click, click, clickā¦pingā¦.Yes, Sir, butā¦Sir! Permission to speakā¦Sir, yes Sirā¦
Kiku froze, listening intently to what he was hearing. It was a one sided conversation, so he assumed that the voice was talking on the phone. It did sound like that one womanā¦who forcefully dragged him hereā¦huh.
sirā¦the test subject is suicidal, you realize that, correct?...Sirā¦yes, sir I understand what you mean butā¦Sir! He openly dared me toā¦sorry sirā¦the subject dared me to kill himā¦yes sirā¦I know he is important sirā¦no he is not harmed in any way sirā¦I told you this alreadyā¦the drug workedā¦sir? I understand, Sir
Kiku sighed, it was just a random conversation, about him but he could care less. He was just about to deactivate his powers when he heard something-
Yes Sir. The new Timeless shall be magnificent. All is going to plan the womanās voice changed, sounding like she was sneering into the phone; full of confidence and evil intentions, All according to plan, Sir. They will not escape so easilyā¦.clickā¦ping
Blinking, Kiku let the words sink in. He had heard rumors of a āTimelessā but they were rumors. Not that he really remembered what they were about. Oh well.
Kiku didnāt bother deactivating his powers when the woman came into the room, light pouring in through the open doorway.
āReadyā¦Kiku?ā she smiled, her tone sickly sweet.
Pretending to be docile, Kiku meekly nodded and stood up on shaky legs, and hobbled over to her. He would go to his room. He would think things over. He wouldā¦he had to find others. He had too. Butā¦how?
āAre you listening to me, boy?ā the voice hissed into his ear, causing Kiku to jump up, falling on his butt with a scream.
The woman looked unimpressed and hauled him to his feet, a dark glare on her face. What was it now? Why did she have to look at him like that?
It didnāt take long to get back to his room, luckily. Anymore time with that doctor and Kiku would have killed her. Or himself. But he wanted that so it wasnāt a bad thing.
He walked over to his bed and collapsed onto it happily. Well, it was more like a cot then a bed, but Kiku was tired. And surprising his head wasnāt pound- oh wait, there it was. He groaned and slid off his bed and onto the floor, slithering over to his headphones lazily. When they were firmly placed on his head Kiku managed to pick himself up off the dirty floor and back onto his bed.
With a happy sigh, he let his mind wander voicing out random thought into the air. It wasnāt like anyone could hear what he was thinking anyways.
What is this āTimelessā? and why are these scientists hell-bent on making āanotherā one? What was the first one? Who were the people who he heard escape? Where were they now? Were there others like him? With powers? Or was he alone?
The small and frail blonde boyās thoughts slowed down, allowing him to doze off peacefully. It was quiet for once. And Kiku was going to take every moment of sleep he could. Who knows; he might be on the run sooner than he thought.
