"Fair enough." Matthew said helping his twin to her feet.
"Alright then," said Maddie, "assuming you're alright we're going to go look for our ouija board to contact the spirits of the dead and/or the malevolent specters currently in the area." This was said in a very matter-of-fact tone as though she were talking about the weather rather than an attempt at communicating with the supernatural.
They then went to do exactly that.
"Mattie, remind me why you think the ouija board will allow the ghost to speak?"
"It's not about the board, I am under no illusions about it having magical properties or something. It's just a matter of convenience and it should be easier to use than a pencil and paper because it doesn't involve as much fine manipulation."
"Alright let's assume for a moment that it can't speak but it can move objects and understand what we ask it. Even if all that is true what makes you think it will bother to answer even if it can?"
Matthew paused for a moment. It was a valid question. "Well the way I see it this thing clearly wants something and whatever that something is we might be able to help."
Just then there was a crash from downstairs, followed by a loud bellowing noise, then their father ran up the stairs. "What's going on?" they asked in unison.
