The moonlight was high in the sky when she went hunting, a hunger was gnawing at her that she had never known. Her steps couldn't be heard as she moved through the great underbrush of the wilderness. A hiss sounded in her ear and she brushed the maker of the sound out of her face. They were restless, as if they could smell blood in the air. That wasn't a good thing, not this far within the wood.

"Hush," her voice just a whisper on the wind, and that settled them in a way. One found its way to her neck and she found a small comfort with its tongue flicking against her skin. The other maintained their wiggles and slithers on the top of her head as she transverse farther in the darkness. She caught the scent of fire, and knew that only a fool would light such a thing, a fool without thought for those whom he should fear. A owl made its presence heard nearby with a single "hoo" and then nothing. Silence fell upon the wood, and she stopped.

They were near, she could hear their whispers in an ancient tongue, she drew the arrow and had the bow notched and ready to shoot before the snapping of the branch sounded to her left. They weren't being cautious, as if they had the right to the forest in which they were stepping. She took a step back into the shadows, blackness enveloping her; the one thing that could be seen was the blue of her eyes and the red of her lips. She knew actually what they were and why they were in the forest and it made her angry.

Yes there had been blood spilled within the night, she could see it one their weapons as they stepped into the clearing, and she could it on the breeze they stopped and looked about. She knew that they could hear her, and their eyes were almost better then hers as they peered within the shadows. Not risking a second glance at her hiding spot she lowered herself to the ground without a sound. She almost looked like the creature that was now lying perfectly still on top of her head. She looked like she was about to strike at an impending victim. The bow lay notched at her side, the black arrow still against the string.

The owl took that moment to let out another "hoo."

Those light haired fools, they never looked down; they probably didn't think anything was worthwhile at their feet as it was. They spoke again, their words flowing like a song, but with an edge of harshness that sent a chill up Svisisen spine. They turned back toward the smell of the fire and walked away. She stayed hunched in her position until she heard noises in the forest again. The creatures knew that the strangers did not belong.

The hunted for trophies and that made the Gorgon uneasy. She slipped from her position and was upright with a nary a sound. There would be no hunting tonight, and her stomach protested her decision. She slipped back down toward her cave.

The opening wasn't visible to the human eye; elves though might be able to see it. She slipped in and found nothing disturbed, but for how long was she safe here, how long before the hunters found her, and made her a sideshow freak.

Or mounted her head on someone’s wall…

Hearing a loud hiss with that thought, it seems like the snakes didn’t like that idea in the least.
