He went through the motions, playing his part and letting the music come at it will. He had a slightly hard time keeping his mallets moving to the same patterns that were written on the sheet of music in front of him. He knew the chords and melodies that would make the piece more emotional, more heart felt. But at the same time he knew the ones that would change it to suspense, make it sound angry, sad or joyous. But he couldn’t do that, not here right now, he had to play what was written in front of him and make it sound the way the author intended it to sound. Every time they paused for the instructor to help someone with their part, go through it again and again until they couldn’t get it wrong, he would tap on the bells with his fingers. The sounds that came from it were barely heard but he itched to play them, write them down. Music kept his mind off things; it was his only release that he had found.
