Adalwolf stood at the top of the flight of stairs which led up to the guest rooms listening to the conversation between the two young hotel employees and its owner. Adalwolf would not allow them them to intervene with his duties. What the three had not realized was that Adalwolf was not there for them, he was there under the pretense of seeking out deserters, the fact is Gottberg needed a place to hide out.

Although he had not come to prosecute anyone he felt as though he now needed to keep up appearances. He would have to deal with the hotel staff so that they would not blow his cover, and he had the perfect thing for such a task, it lay within his briefcase. Adalwolf looked down the hall at the door to his room, he thought about the item which he had hidden within the room, turning forward once more he made his way down stairs.

He needed to check on the telegram that he had sent earlier that day, walking right passed the gathering of hotel workers Gottberg walked right out the front door without uttering a single word.
