Some time later Damien made his way back to the tavern and received his reward. David, the barkeep was weary if the wizard was actually dead, but he had no counter-proof so paid Damien in full and sent him on his merry way. Damien wasn't happy about this low reward and the mysterious cards in a card didn't help, in-fact it made it even worse. The mage could very well be alive and Damien failed the mission! Oh how that would bring such shame to Fairy Tail...Bah! Who cared anyway? Perhaps Kai or something...Damien could always say he let him go because he felt sor- HAH! Right. Sorry for someone? Damien had rarely felt 'sorry' for anyone. The word is most likely not even in his vocabulary.

On his way back to the Fairy Tail base something startled him, and trust me startle was another word that most likely wasn't in Damien's personal dictionary. A thought popped into his head suddenly, one that couldn't have been projected from his own brain...it just...entered his memory. The mage took the shot to knee to the gut, but why? Damien had felt little to no resistance from the boy. Even if surprise was an element Damien had been fighting too long to not know what a false fight was. Either that really wasn't him or he vanished out at the last second. He shook the thought clear out of his head and toward the Guild. The door was up ahead, but he would rather not deal with the constant yelling that was Fairy Tail. Instead he took a more quiet approach and laid down on a bench under an apple tree that was a couple of feet next to the Guild. He liked the cool fresh shade that the tree provided Damien, and in return...well Damien decided not to cut the damn thing down. He gently closed his eyes, not wishing to enter a sleep but more of a meditative state in which his mind was blank and just for a little bit...he had peace.
