By the reaction of the man Golden felt a growing concern for her own welfare. Not only was he yelling in a language she didn't understand he also drew something shiny. In reaction she immediately backed off, tail between her legs. It was clear he did not understand her intentions. When he collapsed in his own vomit Golden began to understand that he was ill. She cautiously licked at his face. By that time the other two humans were close to the tower and were also making sounds.

Backing away from the collapsed man she moved to the base of the tower and started to dig in the sand. She could not think of anything else that would result in finding water unless the sky suddenly broke open with an unlikely downpour of water. Sending sand flying all around her she removed the hottest layer. The coolness of what lay underneath felt nice on her blistered paws.

It took a long time for her to dig deep enough to find damp sand. By then she was panting heavily and her beautiful fur was growing dark with sweat. She paused to lay in the shadow of tower, placing her head on her paws. Being a Wolf Cat she was rather large compared to the other beings. She wondered how to communicate with them. Golden certainly did not speak their language and projecting images the first time did not seem at all successful.

The others were not large enough for her to fear them but she was still cautious. On her home planet she always felt small when she was with her pack mates.
