"You are not rubbish," Merrak said with a hint of humor in his deep voice. "I am just particularly communicative with the Old Gods, or those that remain." A sigh escaped Merrak through his nostrils and he seemed to sink into his chair as if a burden had been remembered.
"But," Merrak said, shaking himself out of reverie. "Do not assume that I am gifted such as you are. I've no special qualities outside of my priesthood." He chuckled and tugged at the ever nagging collar. Sometimes he believed they made it especially uncomfortable so that Merrak was reminded of his vows around attractive women. It was now being proven to work.
"How long had you been in The City?" Merrak asked, genuinely interested.
