“Oh, cher…” James cooed.
He hated to see Ada upset with him. The last thing he wanted was for her to distance herself from him. She tended to do that when she ignored or upset.
“I’ll be alright and you can go back and work or..whatever else you need to do.”
In her voice he could sense a little of what seemed like…bitterness? Was she jealous? Was that why she left? The mere thought made James smile. He knew Ada wanted his attention, but he never thought she’d want it this much.
Though the pair often flirted with each other, James had learned not to take her too seriously, no matter how serious he was. A hit or two had taught him that. Grinning, James stopped Ada from walking away from him, gently pulling her closer by the sleeve of her jacket.
“There’s nothing more important more me to be doing at the club than making sure ma ange gets home safe. I’d lose it if something happened to you. Now, shall we, belle?”
Finalizing his position on the subject, he put Ada’s arm through his, and he lightly rubbed the arm with his free hand. Feeling the need to explain himself, he continued talking while casually strolling with her towards her place.
“I’m sorry I didn’t come back for you as quickly as I should have. She told me that she’s the one Caius is considering hiring. She’s going to be a liaison specialist as well.”
