"Your entire world revolves around that boy." Another wave pushed her further and the room changed. She was standing on a platform, her surroundings white as far as the eye could see. Doll turned, jumping at the sound of a voice. There a man there, old with age with a bear that was probably as old as he was. "Who are you?" Doll asked but there came no answer. Instead, he beckoned to the floor and Doll looked down; she could see Zero walking, pacing. Doll wanted to reach out, but she hesitated, knowing he didn't want her. "Oh come now, if he really didn't would he be there, waiting for you to wake up?"
"I'm asleep?"
"Something like that."
"So why does he look so worried?" The man didn't answer, but that was enough. "Oh." He chuckled, "You seem to have a history of getting yourself into trouble." Doll turned towards him, "I wouldn't no, I don't have my memory."
"It's better that way." The man sighed, his hands in his pockets. He was wearing a Hawaiian tee shirt and khakis, like he was on vacation despite the fact that it was winter. "I want to go back." Doll sank to her knees, placing her hands on the floor. "Zero!" She screamed, but he couldn't hear her. "There's no use doing that," the man shook his head. "It's just an image, nothing more." He sighed, the image disappearing as though to prove a point. "Please!" Doll got to her feet, "Send me back there!" The man shook his head, "It's a world full of hardships, you're better off here."[/color]
"No!" Doll didn't mean to snap, she straightened, unable to help the tears. "I want to go back."
"It's not going to be easy." He warned, his tone stern.
"I don't care." Doll looked back at the floor but the image was gone. "As long as I can be with him, even if he doesn't want me to be." He chuckled, the man suddenly lightening up. "Alright, but don't say I didn't warn you."
"Who are you anyways?"
"Let's just say I'm your conscious."
The Doctor sat with his head in his hands, lab coat covered in blood. The others had left, the heart monitor had gone flat nearly an hour ago but he had yet to tell Zero. "I'm sorry," The Doctor whispered. "I failed I'm so sorry." The Doc stood, removing his lab coat and depositing it in the bin. He went to the door, looking back at the still girl and pushed through the door. The Doctor went to find Zero, who luckily wasn't far. "Zero," he started.
"I'm so sorry."
Had the Doctor been in the room, he would have seen the slightest bump in the heart monitor, the slow raise. It was slow, but she was still fighting. One of the nurses came back in with a death certificate, nearly dropping the clipboard. She ran back, the team prepping once more. The fight wasn't over.
One of the Beings burst through the doors, going to grab the Doctor. "Dr. Atarashi, we need you."
"Give me one minute Fiona."
"Doctor."
"I said-"
"It's the girl." His eyes widened, he ran back to the room where the others had already prepped for another round. "Hang in there Loretta," Doctor Atarashi whispered as he prepped, "we're not done yet."
