What did Mizuki taste like? Yui wasn't sure, it seemed she had forgotten the taste of food. Yui's brow furrowed as she thought long and hard about what Mizuki tasted like. "Apple," Yui decided, choosing a word at random, one that she had heard being used in the anime. "Mizu is apple!" Mizuki's face was turning red, although Yui didn't know why. "Apple!" Mizuki certainly was going for an apple like shade what with the color in her cheeks and all. Yui didn't seem to mind it, she was busy suckling and watching the anime. "Red," Yui said next, choosing a name for the color Mizuki had turned. She looked back at the holo screen, "green," she said next with a nod, as though confirming something. What it was, was beyond knowing. Many things didn't make sense when you had darkness inside of you, sometimes it brought out the worst in others, other times it stripped them down to who they truly were.
Raven came then, blocking the holo screen so that Yui wouldn't get distracted and instead pay attention to her. Even standing in front of it, Yui could partially see the bright colors behind her. Yui flailed suddenly, it was clear that she wanted Raven to pick her up, but Raven was acting aloof and distant, standing far back so that Yui might not touch her. It didn't make Yui's excitement at seeing her ebb any, in fact, it almost had the opposite effect, making her flail harder as well as open and close her hands more so that Raven might pay attention to her and pick her up. Raven wanted to see her too, she said, but she was afraid. Afraid? Yui didn't think that her big sister could ever be afraid of anything. "Yui-Yui wan-wanted to-to be with Raven!" She said in that overly excited tone, she was clearly working hard to string together words that made up sentences.
"B-but Yui-Yui was sc-scared!" Scared of what? She wasn't sure now, but it had made sense before to be afraid of something. "Yui-Yui i-i-is happy now-now th-that she c-can be-be with her f-f-family!" "Y-Yui lo-loves Raven-Raven!" She nodded her head so vigorously that her hair had become messy once more. Why wouldn't Raven pick her up? Why was Raven acting so cold to her? "Y-Yui is-isn't mad," she shook her head as though to make a point. "Yui-Yui is-is ha-happy sh-she can be-be with R-Raven again," even with the darkness there was truth to her words, Yui had wanted nothing more than be with her family and now she could be, no longer confined to the tiny cell where she did nothing but stare numbly at the wall in the hopes of being killed out of mercy.
Raven finally picked her up, making Yui squeal happily and flail her arms like a bird trying to learn to fly. Yui tried to grab Raven's fingers to suckle on next, seeming content in Raven's arms as the girl whispered to her. Yui rubbed her head against Raven's chest like an affectionate little kitten. Aria returned with a stuffed lamb, one that Yui didn't seem to recognize. There wasn't a glimmer of familiarity in her eyes when she looked at the toy, although she clearly wanted to hold it.
