|| Stand By Me|| Florence and the Machine ||
"I'm not afraid!" Miiko protested in reply. She had just been startled it all, but Miiko was glad to be out of the elevator. Now that they were in their room, Miiko was attempting to puzzle out who this man was and what his true intentions were, because while she could recall bits and pieces, there were also strange gaps in her memory. That was likely when she had been blind, her brain not remembering that period thanks to the trauma. "I remember bread, but I was blind." Miiko replied, wondering if Varus recalled that. She should probably explain to Rose what she meant by that. Miiko turned around, facing Rose so that Rose's arms were now clutching her back instead of her front to keep Miiko away from Varus and to protect her. "Um, ten years ago or so, I'm not sure, I'm not good with numbers, I went blind."
Miiko should probably start from the beginning. "Stella and I were playing on the rocks by the water one day before I knew how to swim and I fell in. I was fine after, but a mark appeared on my hand, apparently that was the beginning of the light bearing mark!" Was that how Varus had known that Miiko would eventually become a caster? Or had he simply made a wild guess? "I don't remember how much longer after, but I went blind and lost all my hair, but then, it came back and they were both a different color!" It was a phenomenon that no Doctor could explain. The sudden mutation had been guessed far and wide by many different rebels. Some suggested pollution in the lake, while others thought that there was a sudden change in the genetics due to the awakening of the light bearing mark. "Stella had a real light bearing mark after that! She could jump from one place to another!"
"What Miiko means," Gavin interceded, "is that Stella can teleport." Miiko nodded her head, "She was like lightning! There one second and then, bam! Gone the next!" Miiko added hand motions so that they could get the full effect. It was then that Havran yelled at them about strategy and Miiko glowered. "There's always a choice! You could really save both if you wanted to!" Miiko crossed her arms, Varus stopping the miniature spat to announce that they were leaving the port. Miiko ran back out to the balcony to wave to her Mother and Father until they disappeared from view. "Come on Rose, let's go up top and watch the view!" Miiko grabbed Rose's wrist and ran towards the elevator bay. She preferred the stairs, but the magic platform was faster. She pushed the highest number and waited eagerly for the elevator doors to open.
They made an immediate left, the glass sliding open for Miiko and Rose like magic. Up top, the pools were empty, the slides in ruin, but Miiko didn't know what they were for anyhow. She went to the railing, looking down at the ocean. "We're so high up!" Miiko giggled with glee, spreading her arms out to the side so that she could catch the wind. "Apparently it's hot in the desert, even though it's winter!"
