Capitol City was overwhelmingly different compared to anything Rose had ever seen since waking up in this future a hundred years after her death. It was all so - how could she even think about it for a second, it was ridiculous! They hadn't been on this side of Capitol City ever before - only ever has she been on the desert side with the Sand Prison on it, through the sandstorm. "Capitol City is big enough to have two Cores." Sam said for her benefit, because Rose didn't really know any of this. Miiko pointed out one of them, the water canyon that protected the island. "The other one is over there, on the other side, it guards the Sand Prison." Sam pointed and Rose nodded firmly, she could recognize that imposing statue anywhere, the Imperial Statue, watching them all from above, making sure no one stepped out of line.
"We'll do great, Emma. The new semester isn't starting for a few days, so we can spend that time getting accustomed to being here... to living in peace for once." After Lise had left, Rose found the time to read through the paper given to her and she understood a part of Sam's pain as he looked at them, remembering his old friends that could no longer live. No matter how Sam tried to hide it - it hurt him to see the ghosts of his pasts as they could have been, if only they survived the bombing. "It's so different from Jaspar." She tried her best to keep the hostility out of her voice, to forget that this city was filled with potential enemies she would one day have to stab with her rapier. "Don't worry." Irina lowered her voice, petting Emma's head. "There won't be a bomb to kill us, not this time." Miiko read it too, didn't she, all about Sam's past?
Lise hopped off the boat, grinning childishly at them. "Just look me up once you get into the school! I can't help you with the exam, but I'll be your best guide once we're in!" It was still so strange - but then again, maybe it wasn't. Just like how Prisca had three faces - Rose, the warrior, Prisca, the Martyr, and now Irina, the haughty, Lise probably had two faces as well. Lise, the Ace, and Lise, the little girl, lonely behind her blue eyes. "Study hard, Lise's right, no one can help you get through, so you just have to do your best." Sam said reassuringly. Rose frowned - she was never particularly good at school... she always relied on Essie to tutor her after classes because it was hard to remember things. Would she really be okay?
"Irina's supposed to be haughty and tough, remember." Sam said as a warning masked by an encouragement. Right, she wasn't Prisca, the bad student, she was Irina, who was always confident in her abilities. "Yeah, there's no way a test can stop me!" Irina declared as they drove through the city to Sam's house, unknowing of a certain flamboyant genius waiting in the house with another certain red haired moral officer, both of them plotting a surprise party for Sam and his sisters, to welcome them to Capitol City.
