The pacer test, the beep test, no matter what you called it, it was a pain. In shape or not, it always ended up pushing you to the limits and you'd be on the ground, exhausted and dead by the time it was done. It was a way to punish anyone, equally, with not a care for the fitness level of any of them. Irina was going purposefully slow, timing it so that she wouldn't have to stop and wait at the line between each beep - it was easier if you did it as a continuous motion rather than starting and stopping. Roz seemed to be having quite a lot of fun with the whistle and Irina was half a mind to warn Miiko not to sprint each time... but she said nothing, figuring Emma would know what to do. She was Yavinese and lived in a jungle, this would be easy for her compared to the city folk here.
At lap six, Jonah had to bow out, he was breathing hard and panting and trying not to puke on the floor. He really was out of shape and Roz patted his shoulder with reassurance that as long as he did his best, that was all that mattered. Jonah nodded and made a few laughs under his breath. People were steadily dropping out, first a trickle, then a downpour, and Irina herself was starting to tire once they reached ten. Emma was still going strong, as did Lise, and even Cyrus was strong and proud, shaking himself like a bull would as he continued plodding. Irina's snow white hair swayed with each step, with each turn and she remained as springy as she could moving on to lap eleven.
That was when she screwed up a turn and a sharp pain erupted in the ball of her foot. Screwing up her eyes, Irina resolved to keep on running, to not lose, she needed to look good, it would be a shame otherwise to the real Irina Reisser, no doubt she wouldn't lose her composure here! But she couldn't surpass Emma in the end and at fifteen, Irina fell forward onto her face, unble to keep running any longer, the first of the three girls to bow out. At the exact same time, Cyrus fell as well and he sat himself next to her, handing her water from the fountain at the back. "Wow, you lost to your little sister." He said mockingly, and Irina grinned, wiping sweat off her brow. "I'm... better at fighting... but Emma's... tougher than she looks." Her lungs were burning and aching and greedily sucking up water and suffice to say, it stank here, everyone's sweat was ruining everything.
Finally, at around twenty-one, it was only Emma and Lise left and Emma met her end, leaving a panting, exhausted but proud Lise, as the last. "Good work, everyone, you survived the Pacer Test!" Conductor Roz shouted with an evil grin. "Everyone do one more lap to calm down your heart rates and then we'll move to the next drill!" Next drill, they still had more to do? "Y-you... were great... Emma." Irina patted her sister's back for the cool off lap, feeling like she was going to drop dead at any second. Her foot was really hurting her now, but she didn't want to ask anyone to help it because she didn't want to seem weak in front of these people.
