"There you are, Emma." Irina exited her shower stall, newly dressed with set sopping hair and wrapped her arms around her Caster's shoulders in a hug. This weekend, they absolutely needed to go meet up with Sam and talk to him, to find out what to do, to report whatever they knew. "Let's go to bed, and don't get lost again, okay?" Emma looked positively terrified! So the two girls returned to bed, Lise was still in the shower but she knew the way, it was fine. Before she climbed into her bunk though she grabbed Emma's wrist and scribbled letters on. "I know, it's hard to be away from home, but I'm here for you, I won't let you be alone." She wasn't a replacement for Jace, for Athena, for anyone, but she still wanted to help with the loneliness somehow.
How do you make someone disappear? How do you clean your life of an unsightly person and take back what is rightfully yours? Callum, he was a threat, he was here to ruin things between the Hart sisters, an evil conniving bastard who only existed to steal Essie away and make Prisca alone forever and ever. Essie was all she had, why couldn't he leave her alone? The next day and every day after, Mom always was full of smiles and happiness, and every picture that once included their dad was photo edited so that he was no longer in the picture, just an empty awkward space where it looked like someone was supposed to be there. He had been disappeared and neither Prisca nor Essie spoke about him, because mom's intentions were more than obvious here. He no longer existed, he had no place in their happy family memories anymore.
"This doesn't feel happy." Essie said with a heavy sigh as they were walking to school. The two sisters were more distant now than before, it was all Callum's fault, Prisca didn't do anything wrong, she was just protecting what was hers from Callum's attempts to steal her away into a dangerous rebellion! "We won't even get a funeral or anything for him, he's just gone." Prisca wasn't sure how she felt about it either - Mom wasn't crying anymore, and cheating was definitely a crime... but did that really deserve treatment like the Black Vans? "Did we do the right thing, Essie?" Prisca asked, twitching her thumbs nervously. Essie sighed, full of complex emotions. "I don't know. Mom's happier... but, I just, I don't know." It was hard to know anything anymore.
Prisca walked closer to Essie, wanting some of their old sisterly bond back, instead of just being two sisters who aren't particularly close at all. Why didn't Essie realize that Prisca didn't do anything wrong, she just didn't have a choice, she had to stop her from joining the vigilantes, it was dangerous! "Please... don't leave me, Essie. Please don't leave me alone." Essie looked at her and while there was love, there was also annoyance and she still hadn't forgiven her for that stunt that one night. "We're still sisters, okay?" Essie said quietly, looking away. "...But that doesn't mean we can't talk to other people, too." It felt like Prisca's heart was shattering but Essie didn't hear it as they kept walking to school.
