|| Stand By Me|| Florence and the Machine ||
Emma's hands were still clean of blood, she was not flecked with crimson nor brain matter. She had at last reached the spot where she could hear Irina mid duel with Varus and a new comer. "Hang on Irina, I'm coming," Emma whispered. She had come up the wrong way, however. It was Lise who had been behind Irina, Lise whom Irina had taken the bullet for, selling her performance flawlessly. Emma froze, she was uncertain what she was doing. Her second weapon of choice was a pistol, there were two bullets in the barrel, a long silencer on the end. One, two, three, four, two bullets in each. Varus and Jace both fell, Emma's hands were shaking. She was flecked with blood, her eyes wide with terror. "Irina," Emma did not look at the corpse of her Father, nor the man who had been an older brother to her.
She knelt beside Irina and held her hand, "does it hurt?" In that moment, Lise did not exist. "Don't worry, I won't leave your side, not ever." Emma buried her head in Irina's chest, tears running down her cheeks. She was shaking something awful, as though she were the flicker of a flame dancing to and fro. Emma suddenly went numb, her vision going dark and her body limp. "What's going on!" Pablo yelled, suddenly panicked. He ran back to bed twenty two, attempting to disconnect Emma from the simulation manually. "I've never seen anything like this, a virus? But the SimulCrum can't get viruses." He pondered, circling the bed for answers. There were none on the surface, however Emma's vitals had raised considerably, Pablo raised that off, concluding that it was due to the fact that Emma had just made her first kill. Two bosses in the span of one minute, it was impressive to say the least.
"Can't we just disconnect her?" Pablo shook his head at the idiocy of his assistant. "The SimulCrum connects to the nerves, if we do that, it could paralyze her, or worse. We need to end the simulation, now." Pablo demanded, turning to his assistant. Pablo ran to the computer, shutting the simulation down. It was game over anyhow, with Jace and Varus now dead the rebellion heads had been metaphorically cut off, preventing the rebels from continuing to send their forces after the Republic. "What's going on? Why did they stop us like that?" Pablo glanced at bed twenty two hopefully, however Emma had not awoken. She seemed so peaceful, as though she were taking a midday nap. All around children roused, but bed twenty two remained still. "Emma?" Jonah asked, realizing that she was still laying down, her eyes closed.
"Where am I?" This room was not one that Emma recognized. This was not the SimulCrum launch nor the battlefield. She was contained within a cage, her surroundings nothing more than blinking lights. "Hey! Let m out!" Something hard like wind blew her back, the blinking lights faded, a door opening to reveal something that Emma had seen that she was not supposed to know existed. "You're her," the voice had a metallic grind which was harsh to Emma's ears. She winced and backed up, wondering if this was some sort of test. "Where am I?" She inquired, attempting to sound brave. "You are nowhere, in the heart of the SimulCrum, NoWhere." Emma was blown back again, this time hitting the panel of boards and lights. Wires snaked around her, binding her further against the metallic motherboard. "You will stay until an equal exchange is made. My life or yours, who will the humans choose?"
"Step into the light!" Two heavy footsteps rang in the silence, Emma gasped. "It's you!" She realized, the robot she had seen inside of the tank. "Yes, it is I."
