The glass was shattered by the metal bar, shards flying all over the place. Irina watched impassively, but before the robot itself could get destroyed scientists came to disrupt them, telling them that physical damage wouldn't be enough to stop them, only Pablo - or someone with similar levels of access were allowed to. "Haven't you heard of the laws of robotics?" Irina hissed coldly, kicking the scientist to the wall. "A robot is supposed to value human life, not do something idiotic like this." But even as the ice princess, she was just a random girl spouting words. Conductor Roz and Lise, however, had authority and power. "If Emma dies, that's blasphemy against the ELite Four." Lise said, holding out her ID Card. "And the military will stop funding you nerds, for letting this happen." Cyrus held out his card as well. "As the son of a Senator, I won't stand for this either." He added his weight to their words.
Pablo hadn't been sitting on his ass this whole time, naturally. He had given Nino perfect administrative access, and even if Nino acted as if she didn't care, little did Pablo know just how important this girl named Emma was to the rebellion. So Nino, with Pablo's hands-off advice, was able to extract a copy of the programming used to create Ronan. "if you add a few more lines of codes here, his personality will be restrained by whatever laws you decide." Nino advised, fingers clattering rapidly against the keyboard. "I know you wanted to maintain the integrity of the source code, but that's irresponsible. You have to chain up the robot's freedoms until it's only option is to serve without any loopholes."
According to Nino, free will was what allowed Project Ronan to go rogue like this. Pablo was torn, however, he didn't like the idea of binding it with programming. "I wanted it to be able to respect human rules without using force like that." He explained himself sadly. "I gifted it with free will, and look at how it repays us. They could have given it sentience but made it unable to do anything but direct orders, but Pablo felt pity for an existence like that, so soulless, so empty and lifeless. He bestowed the will to do as one pleased instead, without any constraints in the code - and for his kindness, he was kicked in the balls, punished for having a heart. "You're too nice." Nino muttered. "In science, you can't have a heart, isn't that what it means to serve L?" She remembered the deaths of all those innocents at Everett Island... she wouldn't stand for something like that again.
Just as promised though, it was now at fifty, the virus progression. With the source code saved, they could easily recreate a new Project Ronan, but this time forcing it to act only within the bounds of human rules and laws. The door flung open and Pablo raised his hands. "I'm sorry, my arms are tied, the Senate ordered me not to do anything." He was smiling though, glasses glinting with dangerous ferver. "But it'd be a shame if I forgot to log out and someone from the Rebellion went into my account and ran the deletion program without me noticing, wouldn't it?" It was no or never, all Nino had to do was run the executable and then Emma would be saved. Irina was pointing a gun at him, even if Roz an Lise were trying to fight the gun out so she didn't do anything drastic. "Since you're family, I'll overlook that threat, okay, Reisser?"
