55% it seemed that they were really risking it. Emma had gone numb, her throat hurt from where the wires were constricting her and she felt as though she were going to disappear into the wall of wires. Ronan suddenly grinned, it was calm and soft, almost gentle. "They are winning," he said softly. Emma too, smiled and laughed. "Of course," she choked, "they're my family." Her body went limp and if it were not for the wires constraining her she would have fallen. The wires slowly loosened, allowing Emma to crumple to the floor. "Light bearer, I almost envy you. Allowed to live in this world, to become anything you want so long as you keep that marking covered." He took a length of wire and wrapped it around Emma's hand to cover it up. No doubt the back door programming would take over any second. "I bet you have a family too. Pablo, he's your family isn't he? Aren't you hurting him?" Emma gasped weakly, looking up.
"Still awake? I'm surprised," Emma looked up. "If you let me go... I'll make sure that your family respects your wishes too," the wires were still attached to her head and neck, Emma was not out of the woods yet. Ronan considered this offer, they were already at 60%. Emma did not enjoy this sensation of being taken over by wires. "Ronan, in another world, I like to think we could have been friends," Ronan chortled. "That is impossible, you are a light bearer." Emma struggled to prop herself up. "When has that... ever stopped humans?" Ronan was silent for a moment. "Alright strange human, I will accept your offer. Your time is nearly up anyways." With a snap of his fingers the wires began to recede. With the disconnection, Emma's vision went blank and her body limp once more.
When Emma awoke she felt strange, almost tingly. She was being rushed somewhere on a stretcher. "I didn't do it," Pablo said, glancing at his screen. "Neither did I," Nina frowned. Had Emma somehow found a backdoor in the program? Had she convinced Ronan to free her? "I can review the tapes from inside of his head," Pablo spoke. Emma groaned and rolled onto her side. "Iri?" She croaked, her throat dry. "Irina?" Emma swallowed hard, there was a tingling underneath her nose, oxygen. "Lise?" Emma attempted to sit up, "don't move," she was warned. "Just lay down, we're taking you back to Capitol City to be seen by a Doctor."
"Irina... I won't go... without her." Captain Roz stood in the doorway, blocking their exit. Emma swallowed hard, feeling as though she was about to get berated. "Don't scare me like that again," he said, "when you return, you can expect your make up work won't be easy." Emma gave a slight nod, moaning in pain. "Yessir," she said, quickly falling back into unconsciousness.
