Camila finished her makeup just a moment after Aaliyah returned to her bedroom, and Juliette opted to address the more important of the two first, as she spun towards the mirror to examine herself. As expected, Camila had worked her magic, and as she posed her face at all of her best angles, as if she were trying to take a selfie, she was now convinced that tonight would be a good night. "You're a saint and a miracle worker occupying the body of a goddess, and I love you for it," she gushed, still half-consumed with looking at her own reflection as she thanked her friend sitting beside her. It was only really when Aaliyah was in the doorway to her closet, and turning back to specifically address Juliette that she returned to reality. "You're lucky Cami and I aren't as flaky as Ari," she responded with. "Then you would have to take an Uber alone with Malcolm tonight, and you know we can't have that. Call an Escalade or one of the big Ubers when we're ready, and Malcolm and I will sit in the front row and you two can sit in the back," she suggested, knowing that it would probably elicit some sort of eye roll-type reaction out of Aaliyah, even if she wouldn't get the joy out of seeing it now that the closet door had been closed behind her.
In reality, Juliette had nothing against Malcolm. Nothing against him aside from the fact that she was the kind of friend who loved her friends so much that she could find a reason to get jealous at them for spending more time with their grandmother over her. Given that, whenever she needed someone to go shopping with, or to help her study for exam, and Aaliyah's excuse was that she was out and about with Malcolm, Juliette could momentarily convince herself that that boy was not worth a millisecond of her friend's time. In actuality, though, Juliette thought that Aaliyah had good taste in people. She was smart, not just academically, but socially too, and she wasn't the type of person who wore her heart on her sleeve with her emotions exposed. Juliette didn't necessarily know that something was going on between Aaliyah and Malcolm, but at the same time, she just had a tendency to assume that the only reason why anyone would choose a guy over her was because they were getting something physical out of it that a friend couldn't give to them. "So now that we know that Ari's MIA, and she's going to ditch us for Malcolm point two seconds into the night, who should I expect you to abandon me for? That guy, Nick?" she inquired, turning her attention to her phone for a second to text Ari.
