The earth erupted around them, ground shattering with explosive retort as the roots of an ancient force thrust themselves from the ground. These then reached out and slammed the ground around the combatants, shaking the earth and throwing all but the stoutest to the ground. Moments later, a rush of leaves filled the air in a whirlwind, surrounding the combatants in a storm of the forest. The wind was so fierce it was unto the warriors a wall of vicious strength, that would rebuke any attempt to exit that place.

From within the storm came a burning light. It was green, but not the green of verdant growth or health, but a sickly, dappled green of decay and dying things. This light stepped from beyond the storm, and formed into a humanoid body, made from the bones of dead things, covered over with bark, moss, and made animate by vines, roots, and plants that pulled, acting as the creatures muscles.

From other places in the wind wall, yet more of these wretched things stepped forth, until the combatants and the broken one found themselves surrounded by an every growing army of dead, decaying things.

From the thousands of bony throats issued a voice, a choir both ghastly and mesmerizing. "Warned and told you were, heed the land or be destroyed. Heed it not be your answer, death be your reward." The musical, oddly accented words preluded the attack of the dead things. They rushed forward with reckless and heedless abandon, seeking to overwhelm with numbers, and bury all under a mountain of death and decay.
