xxx I know you know that I made those mistakes maybe once or twice
xxx By once or twice I mean maybe a couple of hundred times
xxx So let me, oh let me redeem, oh redeem, oh myself tonight
xxx 'Cause I just need one more shot at second chances
xxx Yeah, is it too late now to say sorry?
It had been a couple months since Travis left Greythorne, and not exactly how he was planning on doing it. After Rosie gave him the chance to run before she spilled his secret and after saying his goodbye to Kaylessa, his first stop was the Branded outpost for the area and quickly asked what the fuck was going on. After a bit of hostility and being needed to be told to calm down, his higher ups explained the situation and their plan.
The Branded had gotten enough information from Travis to pull him out, and continue with just smaller patrols of scouts on the edges to keep eyes on the town. That and they knew about him and the siren, about how they were worried he was going to start getting soft and the letter was a good way to force him to leave, and after some time the town would start letting down their guard and they would strike when the time was right.
Travis wasnât happy with what he was hearing, he tried explaining how the supernaturals there werenât monsters. He was just scoffed at and then reminded about what happened to his parents, and what they were doing was to prevent that from happening to others. Trav just bit his tongue and excused himself from the briefing and headed out, quickly being given some new missions, ones that were more straightforward than trying to infiltrate a town.
The days and weeks seemed to drag by for Travis. Every silent moment he was thinking about Greythorne. He honestly missed the town. The sweet aura and smile of Kay, the daily goofiness and drama Alex, Phoenix, Violet, and Jaiden would be a part of, and especially his time spent with Rosie. Living in Greythorne made him actually feel normal for once, and he had to throw it all away.
One day he was called back into the meeting to discuss some things about Greythorne; mostly just to get confirmation on the type of people there and other information. Travis asked what was going on and one of the others began to speak about how they were planning a multiwave attack in the coming days,, but was quickly cut off by another, about how a few more things had to be set in stone. After some more talking Trav excused himself and headed back to his current safe house.
During the drive Travis stopped at an intersection, the light from a lamp post shining into his car and reflecting off the necklace he hung from the mirror of his truck. The disco ball necklace he gifted to Rosie on christmas, the same one she shoved into his hand during their last interaction. Trav sat at the stop sign for a little bit longer than needed as his regrets and thoughts went through his mind about Greythorne. He couldnât just let the Greythorne and be attacked. He could barely make it through his days after causing the death he had to witness, if the Branded was actually able to rid Greythorne like they talked, he would be even more broken.
Travis ran his hand over his face and through his hair as he sat in his truck, two thoughts going through his mind. Continue on with the Branded, continue trying to forget about Greythorne and the citizens that live there and the death he caused and the death that would come again. Or go back. Go back to Greythorne and try to help them. But Rosie made it clear she didnât want anything to do with him, and Travis assumed most of the rest of the town wanted his blood in return for all he did and caused.
As a car finally rolled up behind him and honked after waiting on Travis he knew he had to make a decision now, one he would have to live with. The easy choice of walking away, or the hard choice of going back and facing his past and demons. One that would guarantee him to live, but having to deal with his internal demons, or one that would quite possibly end with his death. But he knew what to choose, one that would most certainly end with his blood running, but hopefully not many othersâ.
After loading his truck up with some things, Travis was on the road back towards Greythorne, going over what he was going to say in his a hundred times, but unable to stick to one thing. He knew he couldnât talk to Rosie, she wouldnât listen to anything he would say. He left on good terms with Kay, but even though she was sweet, she wouldnât be able to defend him, no matter what she said. Most others would attack him the moment they saw him. There were only a few people left in town he could get a word or two through before any sort of chaos. Neden. Travis wasnât sure what Neden was, but they at least seemed like the most rational and logical of the group, and the type of aura they would give off was different than the others. If anyone in Greythorne would listen to Travis for a second, it would be them.
Finding the road into Greythorne wasnât hard since he made the drive so often when he was undercover, only a few things changed over the months. Travis sped down it as he turned down it, the Branded attack would happen soon, if what he was able to gather before leaving was true so every moment not in Greythorne trying to warn them was another moment towards more death.
As he hit the outskirts of the town before the clearing he parked his truck behind some bushes and covered it with a camouflage tarp, most of the supernatural beings would find it easier, but at least it wasnât in the open. Travis turned sharply, gripping his pistol as he heard a noise in the bushes, but didnât see anything around him. He sighed as he was worried it might be a scout heading into town to report on him or the numerous spriggans that would roam the woods, so he had to move fast
While lingering in the bushes on the edge of town he saw a familiar pair, someone he was actually glad to run into first before heading into town. Kaylessa and Hayden. âKaylessa.â He said in a loud whisper to try to get her attention. Kaylessa peaked up and saw him, confused to see him, but Hayden looked more defensive and pushed Kay behind him. âWhoa whoa. Iâm not here to be a problem. You really think I would try to sneak back into town when the whole town wants me dead. Iâm here to warn you. I need to talk to someone who will actually listen to me and who has the respect of the town. Please, I need you to go find Neden.â Travis asked, keeping his hands in the open not trying to spook them.
Before Kay and Hayden could leave though, another person walked up, but this time it was someone Travis was trying to avoid and one of the last people he wanted to see at the moment, Rosie. âShit. Rosie wai-â But she quickly cut him off with showing hostility, he could then sense what she was trying to do, use her trance to enthrall him. âWait!â He shouted, to try to get her attention. âFine. Iâll go with you, no need to cause trouble.â He said as he stared at her, lowering his head with the offhand comment she said next.
Travis turned to Kay and Hayden as he walked off with Rosie, nodding his head hoping they wouldnât follow Rosieâs demands of not telling anyone, but would understand if they listened to Rosie rather than him. He was curious though. Trav came here expecting Rosie to try to attack him if she saw him, but at the moment seemed like she had something else in mind. Would this be better or worse than just killing him? He would find out later.
