The two of them stopped behind a corner as Kay felt Hayden tighten her hand in his, she could obviously see he was trying to figure something out, some sort of plan, or a way out for them. She wanted to ask what they were going to do, but wasnât entirely sure if he would have a plan to answer her. But Hayden quickly turned back to her and started talking. She didnât like what he was saying, about just running if he told her to run and leave him behind. âButâŠâ Kaylessa tried to speak up, but Hayden told her to not worry about him and he just wanted to keep her safe. She just nodded and squeezed his hand back, the two of them continued through town to head home.
As Hayden lead Kaylessa through town, they were able to avoid most of the fighting and chaos, cutting through alleys and running across streets. But when they crossed a street a few hunters round the corner and stared at the two of them, Kay freezing in place on the sidewalk, scared like a deer in headlights to move. They werenât suppose to run into a hunters, they were suppose to be getting home safe and without any sort of trouble, but here they were standing across and outnumbered by some hunters.
It took Kaylessa a moment to come back into what was going on as her mind was racing as to what to do, not noticing Hayden was speaking to her until he was practically shaking her. When she came back he was telling her to run and not to turn back. âHayden. I canât leave you, I-â He interrupted her again, saying he would be right behind her shortly after taking care of the hunters and such. She hesitated at first before he just smiled at her and turned back around, the blade Neden gave him in hand. Kay quickly turned around and started to run, quickly turning a corner and heading down an alleyway to try to stay out of sight.
Kaylessa got to the end of the alleyway before she stopped at the end of the street, looking back and not seeing Hayden, thinking back to what he said. He could take care of himself. He was from an actual tribe and probably done this before. But⊠she couldnât help but worry, he was brave and willing to fight, while she just ran when he told him to. Her mind started to race again about what could happen, and all she did was run away when he didnât. Kaylessa knew she had to do something and she couldnât just run away from the fight. She felt like she would regret this decision, but she quickly started to run again, but this time back towards Hayden instead of home.
Kay wasnât too far away so it didnât take her long to get back to Hayden, but as she rounded the corner she saw that Hayden was still up and defending himself with the weapon he was given. Kaylessa continued running and jumped onto one of the hunterâs back. âGet away from my elf!â She just about screamed. The hunter stumbled around and tried reaching behind him to get the half-elf off of him, before eventually bumping her against the wall and her letting go and falling to the ground, the air basically being knocked out of her. âLittle half-elf. Were told to take you in alive, though an accident might happen.â The stranger said as he picked Kaylessa up by the neck, her trying claw at the mans arms and take small breathes.
