There wasn't anything Xanth hated more than being picked up. That was something Kaor only forgot when things were really, gravely serious. Her fingers had taken advantage of the bell and wormed their way closer to the noble woman's dress right at the moment a giant clawed paw descended and swiped her off the ground. She was thrown in the basket, which was bad enough - then the dog jumped on her. Squirming and fighting for the highest seat, her frantic attempt at whistling getting batted away by its paws. By the time she'd fought her way out of the basket and onto Kaor's shoulders, muddy paw prints spotted her face. She tried to say something, but Kaor's eyes were fixed on the path ahead. Her arms dropped to her sides with a huff.
At the stranger's intervention, Xanth jumped off Kaor and glared up at her, hands on her hips. She made a short, sharp movement, and jerked her hand forward in a demand. Once she was appeased, she tucked her hand back to her chest. She shrugged and her sour expression twisted into a sneaky grin. Her hands danced, then scurried up Kaor's legs without warning. She raised a brow and twirled on the ball of her foot, towards the direction the stranger was walking. A short whistle, and the dog barked and bounded out of the basket to plod beside her.
