Lyra now knew two names, Blaze and Darien. From what she could gather the Darien fellow was the one testing recruits... now she just felt stupid. She had been standing there waiting for someone instead of asking whom she should be talking to. If anyone had noticed her, which she hoped not, they probably would think she was an idiot. So she decided to ask for help, "Excuse me, I was sent here for recruits. Are you the one I should be talking to." Her voice sounded like the ocean breeze, light and graceful. She realized afterwards she had spoken in her native tongue, and no one could probably understand her. Once again she felt stupid and decided perhaps she should leave before she emberassed herself further.
