The Keepers of the Keys (NEWER AND SHINIER!)

Tips: 0.00 INK Postby hoorayformostthings on Mon Feb 25, 2008 10:45 pm

Alright, since my last attempt at this RP was run almost instantaneously into the ground with ridiculous OOC arguments and whatnot, I'm restarting this thread. As soon as I'm posting character profiles, it'll be open for people to post, so bear with me for a little bit.

Legends tell of a treasure that is so fantastically powerful that the King of the land of Ur'Gana, fearful of the destruction it might cause, had it sealed in a tomb by 8 of the country's most powerful Magi. Each of the magi channeled their powers into a key and used those keys to lock the treasure away forever, ensuring their kingdom's safety for generations to come. The King entrusted his most loyal advisers and bodyguards with the keys, keeping them separate so that no one traitorous and power-hungry person could use them to unseal the vault. However, the King was eventually overthrown, and the keys were scattered throughout the Kingdom in the turmoil of the revolution. Many generations have passed, and the location of the tomb where the treasure was kept, as well as the importance of the keys, was lost along the way. The people who possess the keys now see them only as moderately ornate antiques or interesting trinkets and not as the powerful magic items that they truly are. Everything was peaceful, until one night, when a powerful and mysterious psychic signal compelled the current owners of the keys to leave their homes and travel unerringly towards the capitol city of Shandala. What is behind this mysterious force? Who is trying to reunite the Keepers of the Keys and why? Is the power of the forgotten treasure finally about to be unleashed upon the world?

Okay! This story revolves around the journey to the tomb of the forgotten treasure. It's my first RP, so try not to be overly critical, haha.

RULES:
1. No Godmodding! (That one's a given.)
2. Please have at least a working command of the English language. I'd like this RP to be enjoyable for everyone, and it takes a lot of the fun away if someone writes as though they were an especially dim elementary school student.
3. Follow the RPG rules and conditions. (Also a given.)
4. Please PM me with a character profile before you just randomly jump in and start posting away, just so that I can OK it. It shouldn't take me more than a day to read over your profile and respond to you, so I'll make it as painless an experience as possible.
5. Swearing is fine by me, so go ahead and let loose. Romance is also fine, but keep it PG-13 so the RP isn't shut down.
6. As GM, it's up to me to advance the story, so if you're planning on something uber-dramatic or getting the party into a fight, check with me first.
7. Don't antagonize others! Making a nuisance of yourself will only invoke my wrath.
8. After what happened last time, I'd like to keep the OOC comments to a minimum. If you have an announcement that you absolutely have to make or something along those lines, than it's alright, but I'd prefer as little distraction from the story as possible.

Each character has one of the 8 keys. These keys are powerful magic objects, even if the owner doesn't realize it, and have influenced the powers that the character has developed. Here are your choices:

Fire: Powers of the destructive force of fire.
Water: Powers of water and ice.
Earth: Powers of the very earth itself.
Air: Powers of air and lightning.
Light: Powers to heal and help, as well as the ability to destroy the undead.
Dark: Powers to hurt and hinder, as well as the ability to control the undead.
Order: Powers over the flow of time.
Chaos: Powers to wreak havoc, such as disease and illusion abilities.

For obvious reasons, there can only be one character for each power, so pick fast before your favorite one is taken!

CHARACTER PROFILE: (You can add whatever other details you'd like, but please include at least this basic information.)

Name: (Duh.)
Race: Except for the very outskirts of the country, Ur'Gana is almost entirely human, so check with me before you create some sort of crazy dwarf/fairy or vampire/dragon character. Chances are I'll be fine with one or two of you playing an elf or dwarf, but don't get too wild.
Age: I'd prefer that it was a realistic age for a person to be traveling strenuously on their own, so no 8 or 80-year olds, please.
Gender: Male or Female? They're both great choices.
Appearance: Tell me what you look like! The more detailed, the better. You can also link to a picture if typing is too strenuous for you.
Key: Which key do you have?
Occupation: Are you a mage? A warrior? A thief? A healer? Or just a simple shopkeep? What is your occupation in this world?
Talents/Powers: What things, magical or otherwise, is your character especially good at?
Weaknesses: Everybody's got a weakness. What's yours? Are you especially prone to blind rages? Unusually annoying? A paraplegic?
Alignment: Hero? Neutral? or Villain? The keys have been scattered throughout the country, so anythings possible. Just don't create a character who simply intends to stab every other character in the face and take their keys. You still have to play at least fairly nice.
Bio: How has your life been up until this point? How did you come across your Key? What makes you such an interesting and unique character?

Alright! The story will begin in a tavern in the capitol city of Shandala, so that's where your character's headed. Go ahead and send me your profile if you're interested in joining!

Name: Kyto Ender
Player: Sarithus
Race: Human
Age: 18
Gender: Male
Appearance: Image
Key: Dark key
Occupation: Traveling Merc' (Mercanery)
Talents/Powers:Other then the powers given to him by the dark key, he can bend shadows, creating illusions, shadow clones (That evaporate when hit) and other shadowy things. Another one of his skills is the ability to temporarily copy other peoples powers and use them. (example: If he see's someone with fire, he can temporarily shoot fire balls/etc.) For skills, he has an incredible amount of things he can do, fighting being one of his top skills. He has trained himself to be a worthy enemy to any swordsman, and he has all the skills needed for survival.
Weaknesses: He is disgusted by tyrants and other people who kill innocents. He has a strong sense of justice, but at the same time is a very dark person. He has split personalities, one being good, the other being evil. His evil side calls itself Tareis, and has no morales whatsoever. When Tareis takes over, Kyto can't control himself.
Alignment: Nuetral (Whoever pays best)
Bio: The strangest thing about Kyto is the fact that he has no recognition of the past 17 years of his life. He woke up one day not knowing who he was and named himself Kyto. When he stood up, he had the key of darkness in his pocket, and that's all he can remember. Ever since then, he has been trying to recall his past, while at the same time offering his mercanery service to others.

Name: Shay Xiao
Player: waterychan
Race: Human
Age: 19
Gender: Female
Appearance: Half chinese, half Japanese, 5'6'' with black hair and strange turquoise eyes.
Image
Key: Water
Occupation: An escort for wealthy men.
Talents/Powers: The power to create/manipulate water and ice.
Weaknesses: Though she appears to be confident, she is actually severely insecure. Her insecurities lead to her making terrible decisions through her life. Sometimes when she stares into water, she can see "reflections" of people/herself that she gets increasingly terrified by (These reflections show the darker side of people, which is why she gets scared. She cannot see a reflection of anyone else who holds a key, however.)
Alignment: Hero
Bio: Being born with turquoise eyes, her family thought of her as a demon and abandoned her as a baby. Found by a local escort, she was brought up in the world of being "companion" to men who could afford her. She was given the key by a man who had not been able to afford her services, and he had found the key in a church a few years earlier. He had never been able to understand what it was, but when he gave it to Shay, she found it enticing and was magnetically drawn to it for some reason.

Name: Tyfer Yrell
Player: cedra-cun
Race: Human
Age: 18
Gender: Male
Appearance: Lean and mid height, with green eyes and black hair. Wears normal civilian clothing over his assassin outfit, which is made of a metal cloth, a special material that is flowing and soft as cloth, but can take a blow like metal armor. He's equipped with a variety of small knives and blades and small bombs.
Key: Air
Occupation: Magic thief/assassin.
Talents/Powers: Has a trained hawk that helps him in his work, named Scaythe. Can move at fast rates in any direction by propelling himself with gusts of air. During his thieving, he uses his lightning to create distractions, fires, or eliminate guards. Has also developed a crude communication system with Scaythe, mainly consisting of numbers, used mainly only to learn how many guards are present.
Weaknesses: Annoying, childish, and hyper. And despite his occupation, he will not harm a civilian, only guards. And he only will kill a guard if absolutely necessary. Otherwise, only his target is to be killed.
Alignment: Honorable villain.
Bio: Tyfer didn't always work with the aid of magic. When he was younger, he did it the old fashioned way, with natural skill, and luck. However, a year ago, he found himself with an unusual artifact in his hand. It was more guarded than his past escapades, so he assumed it was very valuable. But it was just a key. Nothing special. He almost thought of seeing if he could jump from where he was in the castle to the ground and survive, but he instead tried to just break through the guards by running. He knew jumping would be an almost assured death, but maybe this would work. And it did, wonderfully. As his legs pumped, he felt a strange wind push him forward, and he flew like an arrow through the guards, untouched. He didn't stop running until he was out of the castle and out of town. Tyfer could tell that this key was something more valuable than any gold he could muster from other thefts. It was power, something he could use for future work. And he did, until recently when he arrived in Shandala. He didn't know why he had gone there, he had nothing in mind to steal, but he came none the less, almost like he was called.

Tips: 0.00 INK Postby hoorayformostthings on Mon Feb 25, 2008 11:18 pm

Name: Andalusia Talos
Race: Human
Age: 19
Gender: Female
Appearance: Tiny and dancer-like, Andalusia stands at barely 5'1". She has long brown hair and bright green eyes that resemble the green of a forest in full bloom. She wears the traditional earth-brown robe of her people, which resembles that of a monk's, and is always seen carrying her staff of power, which was shaped from a branch of the life tree in the center of her village.
Key: Earth
Occupation: Shaman
Talents/Powers: Andalusia has an uncanny control over plant life, using her abilities in a wide array of ways, from making trees bear their fruit to entangling an attacker in a bed of thorns. As her village's shaman, she is more accustomed to using her powers to help than to harm, but in battle she is still a force to be reckoned with.
Weaknesses: Andalusia is extremely frail from a life spent well-protected. Her meager frame will not support much armor, so she needs to stay far away from potential danger or she will go down quickly. Even one strike from a warrior's mace would most likely shatter her.
Alignment: Hero. Andalusia is the savior of her people, bringing their tribe back from near-extinction with her ability to make the crops bloom.
Bio: Andalusia hails from a small tribe on the very outskirts of Ur'Gana, one of the few organizations of people in existence that still has some idea of the power of the magic keys. The tribe got a hold of the Earth key right after the keys were scattered, and have been passing them down from shaman to shaman ever since. However, Andalusia showed signs of powers even before she received the key, and the key has only served to amplify her power, making her the greatest shaman the tribe has ever known and literally saving them from being wiped out by bringing the tribe's crops back to life after a drought had destroyed them. When she received the psychic signal, she left with the tribe's blessing to discover what was causing it.

Andalusia wandered through the city of Shandala, heading unerringly towards the psychic signal that her shaman powers were picking up so powerfully. She followed the signal to the entrance of a tavern and paused, unsure of whether or not she wanted to go in. Whatever's emitting that signal must be quite powerful if I could feel it all the way from the outskirts of the country, she thought. And I'm without bodyguards. If I should go in there and get attacked, I'll be done for. Maybe I should wait to see if anyone else is feeling this signal. With that, she slipped into the darkness and crouched down, conjuring a hedge around her as she stared at the entrance to the tavern, waiting for other people to show up.

Sophia was laying down next to a barrel of fire in an ally way going through her backpack and looking over all the things she had picked from peoples pockets. She stumbled upon a key with a disign like no other. She grabed a piece of string and hung the key on it,she then put it around her neck. She looked in a broken mirror and saw herself touching the newly found necklace. She then got a psychic signal from it and grabed all her things threw them into her backpack and before she knew it she was running. She ran past a shop then stoped and looked back at the horses that were tied up to the post. She went back and untied one of the horses and jumped on it. The horse started at a sprint as she kicked into its sides. She soon found herself outside the city.

"Scaythe, how many guards were there?" The bird now grasping his shoulder guard stood silent. "Good" Silence meant not enough to stop him if things go south. Tyfer drew himself up and walked into the city after staking outside it for a while. Walking in inconspicuously, he looked like a random traveler to this grand city, the bird perched on his left shoulder was the only visible oddity he had. No one could tell who he really was, and he enjoyed the feeling. However there was another feeling present. The pull. He walked to where it led him, an old tavern. He felt eyes lay upon him, and turned suspecting to meet the stare, but saw only a mass of people, none of which were staring at him, and behind them were bushes and buildings. “Hmph” He turned around but still felt the eyes. “Maybe I'm just imagining things... but to be sure... Scaythe,” the bird perked its head up, “Investigate the area again, look for anyone suspicious instead of guards, I don't like being watched.” The bird departed, and Tyfer lent against a pole outside the tavern, watching the people walk by, waiting for something to stick out, or for Scaythe to return, whichever came first.

He said my time to pay was now. I had nothing to give him so he took my sister. 3 years later I still haven't found her. Andalusia watched the new stranger with interest from her hiding place, as he spoke softly to the bird on his shoulder and then sent it off. I wonder if he got the call as well? she thought, debating whether or not she should reveal herself to him. He doesn't seem too dangerous, and there's plenty of wildlife around here if things go sour. The hedge she had created whithered away to nothing as she stood, walking cautiously towards him. "Why are you here?"

Flabbergasted at the sudden appearance of the woman, he couldn't help but express his surprise for a second. But the second was brief and he regained his composure quickly. “I knew there was someone watching me.” he muttered to himself. “Why are you here?” she asked. “Why am I here? I walked here, you're the one who just appeared from a plant which is now withered and dead. Actually, that sounds like a good reason to answer you... the name's Tyfer, madam,” he bowed slightly, “I'd introduce you to Scaythe, but he's off looking for you.” Straightening himself back up, he held out his hand seemingly for her to shake, but he had readied a knife for use in case she tried anything. With a quick snap, it'd be in his hand and have gone through hers.

Andalusia smiled and took the offered hand, although she suddenly got the sense that this man was much more dangerous than he appeared, and mentally willed to life the roots in the ground under his feet. That way, if things went bad, she could take him down quickly. "Is Scaythe the bird I saw you speaking to? How interesting. My name is Andalusia. It is good to meet you. I'm sorry if my sudden appearance startled you. I meant no harm."

"Yes, he's been a good friend to me for years..." he saw Scaythe make a pass overhead, "but I'm willing to make new ones," he smiled. "So I believe you asked me why I was here. I can tell you already know the answer, why else would you spy?" He released her hand from his, "So let me ask you, did you feel called as well..." Scaythe swooped down and perched himself back on his shoulders, "Or are you the one who called?" Tyfer kept a calm smile on his face, disguising the fact he was still ready to strike if needed.

Andalusia's eyes widened slightly as she heard him mention "the call." So he felt it too? This makes things more interesting. "Yes," she said simply. "I too felt the call. Whoever sent it must be truly powerful, I felt it all the way from the outskirts of the country."

"From the outskirts? Indeed he must be. And if we were both called, there must be a reason, least I'd assume so. And I don't think it was an invitation for tea. So I ask you, what other magic can you preform. If it's on par with what you did to that bush... let's just hope we aren't at opposite ends of battle. That's for the both of us, for, I may not look like much... but..." with a twist his tense hand now had the blade it ached for. He quickly arched it, throwing it sidearmed across the street, and it stuck in one of the buildings on the other side, missing the passing civilians completely, none of them even seemed to notice that they nearly were hit by the small sleek blade. "I can hold my own."

Just a little further, I can feel it growing stronger with each step.

Feet to dirt, pounding heavily, Shay ran with all her might.

Lady Aramin's men are close behind, I must keep going!

Her legs grew tired from the strain, but she needed to get away.

So close...

While running, she took a glance behind her to try and see who was after her. In that instant, she collided with someone, someone who most likely didn't enjoy being knocked over. She tumbled to the ground, landing hard on her knee with a sharp breath in from the pain. "I'm sorry!" she shouted, eyes darting up.

She then saw a man around her age, with dark hair and green eyes, standing next to a rather short brunette woman.

Tears stung at her eyes, partly from the pain of the fall, but mostly from the deceit and betrayal of Lady Aramin. After Shay told her of the call she felt drawn toward, Lady Aramin had forbidden her to leave and forced her to see one more client before locking her in her room. Shay managed to escape, but men had been sent to retrieve her and bring her back to the brothel.

"I'm so sorry..." she whispered; to the stranger she had run into, as well as to herself.

She struggled to her feet, her knee bleeding from the impact on the ground. She couldn't quite hold herself up, and leaned on a wall of the nearby tavern. Looking at the man, she cringed slightly while trying to back away. The man were no doubt gaining ground, but she couldn't quite run anymore. Her body felt exhausted, and her knee hurt enough to cause her to limp.
Mosh pit.
Well-concealed tazer.
Hours of endless entertainment.

"I wonder if anyone else received the call?" Andalusia mused, thinking out loud more than anything else. "I suppose we're the only ones here at the moment, but I feel like a psychic signal that strong must've been felt by at least one other person." She looked around, suddenly cautious, as though an army might suddenly spring from the darkness. She watched his display of power, her eyes widening slightly as the blade whizzed through the crowd. "My powers?" She replied. She turned slightly away from him and focused on a spot on the ground. Her eyes glowed a bright green for a second, and as Tyfer watched, a tree sprang out of the ground, burst into bloom, then shed its flowers and died, whithering away to nothing so it was as though it had never existed at all. "As you can see, I can hold my own as well."

Tyfer's mouth dropped at her display. He slowly and very softly clapped his hands together for a few claps and said, "That was... amazing. You must be a hit at parties," he joked aloud to her, half suspecting her to punch him for that. Suddenly Scaythe spoke and pointed it's beak into the crowd. Tyfer turned his attention to where Scaythe had pointed. On the ground was a girl, bloodied and bruised. Tyfer's face filled with empathy for the girl. It was against his nature to harm a girl, and seeing one hurt... "Hold on," he told Andalusia. Walking over to where the girl was he offered his hand down to her. "Are you okay?"
