werewolves
Werewolves, or lycanthropes, are humans that can assume the form of wolves. They live in 'packs', with the alpha and beta being the only people with power, and no 'elder circle', or true law form, as most criminals are caught and killed on sight. These packs don't have many serious pack members, as many members drift through packs, although a few pack members are loyal to one pack. Werewolves are not forced to shift on full moons, but do have to shift twice a week to stay sane. The only thing that happens during the full moon is that werewolves get jumpy, and are prone to sudden and unprecedented attacks. Mates don't exist, either, and many werewolves enjoy being able to have a loose relationship with someone.

It is said that werewolves came from the moon goddess Luna, that they were her children that strayed from the path of good. In retaliation, Luna cursed them all to travel the Earth forever, stuck in their current bodies to never age, and told them that they would become the animals they acted like. Eventually, the wolves began to become mortal, and, after many generations, gave wolves the lifespan of two humans, a short time compared to their ancestors'.

mermaids;mermen
Mermaids and mermen are creatures of the sea, but have the ability to give themselves human legs and bodies so they can travel out into the open. 'Mer' is a gender-neutral term, and is used to describe both mermaids and mermen. All mer are born with sharp teeth and jagged claws, but learn to hide them by around age five. The mer are a naturally peaceful species, preferring grooming themselves and talking to humans rather than sinking ships and devouring innocent people. Mer tend to stick together in groups of five to ten, protecting themselves and others as equals. Mer groups are forever, though, and can only be broken by death, though new members can join at any time.

Mermaids are said to be the offspring of the sea and the beach, making them both water and land dwellers. Not much else is known, but many tall tales of just how these creatures came to be have surfaced in the last hundred years.

ailuranthropes
Ailuranthropes, or werecats, as some call the, are humans that can assume the form of a cat, though they transform into leopards, instead. They have packs just like the werewolves, though their's are more serious, though not as serious as the mer's. Like lycanthropes, ailuranthropes must shift twice a week to stay sane, and generally live in small cities near forests, making it easier to shift and still hide from unsuspecting humans.

Nobody is quite sure how ailuranthropes came to be, though there has been speculation of a cat goddess.
