"Well can we at least call a vehicle to take you? So you don't have to ride to this house in some cheap van?"Kyle smiled and shook his head in disbelief at his mother's words. He loved her, but he couldn't help but feel as if both his parents were settling for material possessions and false appearances that didn't mean a damn thing in the bigger picture, and for that he pitied them.
"But what if I love that cheap ol' bus?" he inquired, as he buttoned his tightly fitted jeans and slipped into the
brown long sleeved jacket with white fringes that his parents loathed, for it's design as much as the fact that Kyle almost always wore it wide open - today being no different.
"Don't be so foolish, let me call a car." "A car's not needed, I'm walking to that bus I can tell you approve of so much. Catch ya later."Kyle grabbed an old leather bag full of his things from off the floor, along with his acoustic guitar, and slung bother over his left shoulder. He then walked over towards his mother and kissed her on the cheek before heading down the stairs.
He could hear more needless worrying from his mother and a-typical disapproval from his father as he hit the front door, but purposely chose to respond with nothing more than a wave before heading out.
Like always he had told Harkot to meet him a few blocks away by a popular convenience store, and as he approached the small market he'd spot a group of young women smoking cigarettes up against a wall and flash his big bright smile towards them.
"Mind if I get one of your smokes?" he'd ask the blonde of the group, who looked at him with a suspicious smirk on her face for a few seconds before nodding her head and handing him a cig.
"One of you happen to see a big red vw around here?"One of the brunettes with an exaggerated beehive pointed directly across the street.
"I do believe that's one"Grabbing his forehead in feign shock Kyle turned around to see Harkot's van - which he already had spotted before he even approached the girls.
"I believe that's it, you had my mind too preoccupied sister. Could I have a light for this smoken before i go, perhaps as a way to say sorry for distracting me so much?" The blonde's suspicious glance melted as she laughed under her breath and the brunette smiled and jested back with him.
"Well I suppose so then"Kyle let the woman light his cigarette before excusing himself to walk across the street.
As he approached the vehicle he'd throw his arms up in the air and call out to Harkot.
"What's happening man, been here long?""Where ya been man? I've been waiting here for hours!" his buddy joked as he hopped off the roof of his van.
"I don't know, you look a little pale to have been sitting under that sun for hours"Kyle wrapped his free arm around his friends neck and gave him a one-armed hug of sorts before opening up the back of the bus and throwing his stuff inside.
"I call shotgun, driving with a smoke just isn't safe man...that's going to be my excuse."After climbing into the passenger seat and shutting the door Kyle would ignore his seatbelt, turn up the music even more, lean back, and throw his feet - clad in
buffalo sandals the same color as his jacket - up on the dashboard, waiting for his friend to climb in and take off.
