"Yeah, Even as a medicine cat I still need to know how to hunt. I'm no kittypet." I replied. I kept to her side and tried to be a quiet as possible, moving my weight around as I walked to make the least noise possible with each step I took.

"Good, because I was afraid I was going to have to teach you. I am a terrible teacher. I don't know how I am ever going to be a mentor one day." I sighed. My nose twitched as I caught the scent of squirrel, but it was stale. I sighed and kept going.

Whilst following StarLight I kept my eyes wide open and was constantly checking my surroundings for any birds or animals that might be hiding. Nothing appeared to be there but I had a gut feeling that we or I was missing something. Maybe it was just paranoia or-. My thought process was interrupted by a sudden realisation, a rule which I should have remembered ages ago. I wasn't allowed to leave the camp without Jayfeathers permission.... I knew I would be in so much trouble no matter when I got back. I might as well finish up this hunt with StarLight before we head back and Im forced to pick the ticks off the elders. I made sure to keep quiet about this broken rule and follow the she-cat, best not ruin her focus.

As we walked, my eyes and ears where open. I froze, smelling the in unmistakable scent of prey. I immediately pushed Lightpaw back with my tail. Dropping into a crouch, I stalked forward, keeping my body low to the ground, but not to low to move any brush and create a sound. Poking my head over a large root, I could see a vole. Every step was precise, and I continued to creep forward, until I was only two tail lengths away. I sprang forward, pushing off hard with my back paws. I landed square on the vole, and snapped its neck in one smooth, quick motion, and it died instantly. I picked it up and padded back over, and mewed through its fur, "That's one more meal for a kit!"

I looked at the vole and then back at StarLights face, I nodded at her excitedly and burst out in a kit-like fit. "That was great StarLight, You were so fast and sneaky!". I jumped around StarLight, ,mewing quickly like a kit as I did "Can you do it again!?"

"Well of course I can," I purred. "I just need something else to hunt." I picked up the vole and continued on to camp. Was he really that impressed? I didn't do very much. Was he just trying to be nice? I wondered as I walked.

I followed Starlight back to camp, keeping a few paces behind her. By the time we had reached the camp it was beginning to get dark and I had calmed down abit. I wasn't to sure what to do now that we had gotten back to camp. "I guess I'll just follow StarLight around for a while" I thought to myself.

I padded into camp with the vole in my jaws. "Well, we werent that successful i guessbut at least we caught something," i said cheerily. I padded over to the fresh kill pile and swapped the vole for a mouse. "Would you like to share? Its rather big," i asked showing him the mouse.

The mouse was as she said, rather big. I liked my lips and nodded, I would be glad to share. "Which parts do you want?" I asked. Personally I wasn't too bothered about what food I was given, just as long as I got something to eat.

"I dont care. I just eat," i chuckled as i lied down on my stomach and took a bite out of the mouse. It was nice and tender, probably freshly caught by one of the warriors.

I sat by StarLights side and watched her eat, I was holding back until she had had her fill. A starving warrior was both more dangerous and in more danger out in the wild. Ofcourse, I think I was ore dangerous altogether because with me around the chances of us catching prey would probably be pretty low. I looked once again at the mouse she was eating, my stomach growled quietly whilst I held myself back, knowing she would only be a little longer.

I finished what i wanted, and pushed the mouse over to Lightpaw. I yawned, putting my head on my paws, my tail curled around my side. My eyes shut half way, and i sat half asleep, waiting for Lightpaw to finish.

I leapt at the mouse and dug in, quickly demolishing what StarLight had left for me. I licked my lips and smiled at her, "Thanks".

"No problem," i replied. I stood up and yawned, "I think i am going to get some sleep. G'night," i padded into the warrior den, and curled up in my nest, falling asleep immediatly.

I wandered back to the Jayfeathers medicine den after StarLight left. I crawled over to my bedding and closed my eyes. Today had been both fun and tiring, I was glad to be able to sleep for now. I heard paws in the entrance to the den so I opened my eyes only a little. It was Jayfeather returning from show work. He took no notice of me as he padded over to his bedding and lay down. I closed my eyes once again and quickly fell asleep.

I slept quite peacefully, until a hear rustling leaves from outside. My eyelids snapped open, and my first thought was there was an invation. Standing up slowly, not wanting to wake my brother who was sleeping next to me, i padded out of the den stepping over multiple sleeping cats. Poking my head out of the den, i scanned around for any enemies. Looking up, i could see a tan outline of a cat sitting by the elders den, with their tail over their paws. I sighed with relief realizing it was only Sandstorm. I walked out of the den, and then sat down next to her.
She was gazing up at the stars, and i knew what she was thinking, "I miss Firestar to," i said.
"We all do," she sighed not looking over at me.
"Anyone who met him will never forget what a wonderful cat he was," i repled, trying to cheer her up. "You will see him again. I promise," i nuzzled up to her. My mother and Sandstorm were best friends when they were young, even though they are a few years apart.
She rubbed her head against my cheek, "I know. Now go get some sleep little warrior," she smiled. I looked up at all of her gray hairs outlined by the moon light. She was more then eight years old.
"You too. Now go," i mewed pushing her back into the elders den.
"Alright alright, Good night," she purred and walked into her den. I sat down looking up at the stars, not wanting to go to sleep yet, wanting to cherish the beautiful, clear night that befell us all.

As I slept I thought back to my past, remebereing the things I dreamt. I always thought myself to be odd as despite being a medicine cat I don't have dreams very often and out of all those dreams I have only met StarClan a few times. Most of the time this was on purpose, JayFeather trying to teach me more about my duties and what I need to know. But I remember one other dream, a dream which I had the night I found ThunderClan. I never remembered anything about my past except this dream.
I had curled up in some bush and fallen asleep, I don't know what I was doing or why I was alone back then. In this dream I was lying alone in a forest, a huge forest with colourful berries and leafs scattered around me. Rays of sunlight peeked through the trees above me and the grund was dry and powdery. There was a tom cat in this dream whom spoke with a rough voice, matching its grey messy coat and dark eyes. It was a scary cat but I found myself happy when It was around me. The cat only spoke my name, then as it was about to say something else I was woken from my sleep by something.
That was all I could remember of my past and had I not had that dream as a kit then my name might have been entirely different. I think that that cat was a parent, or had been seeing as it was now a member of StarClan. I lay in my bed sleeping, thinking back to my dream and reminiscing all the fun things I did as a kit with StarClan. My eyes remained closedbut a smile came to my face.

-The next morning-
All i remember of the night was walking tiredly to the warrior's den, and curling up next to Goldenstripe. After what seemed like only two minutes, i could feel Goldenstripe sturring beside me. "Goldenstripe you are as loud as a badger!" i grumbled, and curled back up with my tail over my nose.
"Well looks whos not a morning cat!" he purred and prodded my side with his paw. "Come on, we need to hunt for Brightheart;s kits," he said, as he kept poking me.
"Fine fine fine! I'm coming!" i grumbled and stood up, shaking moss out of my fur. I padded out of the den, and sat in a patch of sunlight, cleaning my fur.
"Hey, i wonder if Jayfeather needs any help collecting herbs," i heard a smooth, familiar voice meow from behind me.
"I could ask him," i purred and turned around to face my mother, Silvertail.
"Try to make sure he is awake before asking. Remember last time, and how grumpy he was," she gave a little mrrow of laughter.
"Ok," i replied, and walked off. Poking my head through the entrance, i called out, "Jayfeather? Lightpaw? Are you awake? Do you need any help today?"

I stirred from my slumber and looked up in the direction of the voice. My vision was still a little blurry from my sleep so i could barely make out that the cat peekkng its head through the door was StarLight. I noticed anlther figure, JayFeather hunched over in the corner of the room seemingly busy with something. He looked over to me and then nodded towards StarLight,obviously wanting me to answer her questions. I managed to drag myself out of my bed to speak with the she-cat. I stumbled over to her, the fur on one side of my body and face was messy and sticking up. I yawned lazily and asked her as I didnt hear what she said before clearly. “What do you need StarLight?”

"Oh good morning Lightpaw, I was just wondering if you need help collecting any herbs today," I responded. "You are a mess," I chuckled.

I nodded at her and smiled, I knew that in the morning I tended to be quiet messy but once I have a chance to clean up I take the opportunity. I racked through my mind, trying to think of what we might need though this proved fruitless. I was just an apprentice and I hardly knew enough to decide what we didn't and did need. I sighed and walked over to JayFeathers side, whispering something in his ear. He turned to me and spoke, giving me a list of everything he thought he needed, There were some things I knew he hadn't listed but he would probably get them himself. I wandered back over to StarLight and told her the list. "JayFeather needs some Lavender and Ragwort, I thinks thats all. He and I can get the rest"

"Ok!" I replied happily and scampered off to find Goldenstripe. "Lightpaw told as to find lavender and ragwort," i mewed.
"Alright," he said. "Blossomfall! Are you coming with us or what?" he mewed to the dappled she-cat.
"I'm coming Goldenstripe!" she mewed from across the clearing, then trotted over to greet us. "Good morning you two," Blossomfall said to us. I small smile creased my lips. So your bringing the cat you fancy with us? I gave him that look and he glared at me. Blossomefall just eyed us as we left the camp.
"Alright," he said. "Blossomfall! Are you coming with us or what?" he mewed to the dappled she-cat.

I wanted to go with StarLight but JayFeather and I were to be gathering some materials first so there was no way Id be allowed to go. I paced back over to JayFeather whom was organizing herbs and medicine so he could find them. He heard me and turned to look at me. "Move these things into the right places, When we finish this we go gathering" He said quietly.
"Okay" I muttered. I stepped up beside him, to do as he asked and began to move everything into piles, It wasn't very enjoyable but was a necessity. Being able to find a herb quickly meant life or death sometimes and we both knew it from first hand experience.
