Description

Image
Name: Elspeth Vandemere
Alias: ‘Captain’
Picture: Image
Description: Elspeth has long brown hair that sits around her shoulders. It is usually fairly tangled and tingled with sea spray as well as being sun bleached after a great deal of time out on the deck. Her skin is fairly pale and freckles at the slightest hint of sunlight and therefore, has more than her fair share. Her eyebrows are arched quite highly which gives her the impression of being perpetually amused with a scar cutting through the middle of her right eyebrow. Elspeth’s eyes are quite rounded and are decorated with sleepy shadows that have cultivated over the years. Her eyes are a soft blue with highlights of hazel throughout with a coloboma in her left eye, giving the pupil a keyhole appearance. Her lips are plump and coloured slight red. Elspeth’s face is an oval shape and her chin has two slight dents from pox marks located slightly to the left.

Elspeth’s hands are covered in rough calluses, mementos from all the time she has spent maintaining her ship and taking it around the land. Her palms are scarred and burned from mishaps with candles and sharpening working knives although these injuries are less common now. Her nails are raggedy and there is a good amount of dirt and sea salt imbedded underneath them.

Elspeth typically wears a worn red shirt that has shrunk to a glove fit, complete with a few holes and loose threads after being worn so frequently. She also wears a long jacket with a scorch mark (or five) along the bottom that belonged to her older brother before she borrowed it. She also stole a rather fetching looking hat from said brother but doesn’t wear it quite so often as it keeps blowing off in the wind. Elspeth also wears a neck tie made of white cloth that has started to get a little raggedy from the sea spray. She also wears a pair of worn denim trousers with a rip torn in the right knee and a smattering of candle wax marks over her thigh. Her boots are made of sea worn leather and come just below her knees. She is often seen to be wearing black leather gloves, merely for comfort more than anything. Elspeth also keeps a hunting knife in her belt in case of emergencies although she blanches at the idea of using it and a work knife that she uses around the boat and for repairs.

Age:27
Sex:Female
Date of Birth:July 25th, 567
Birthplace:A small fishing village in Triveila that clings to the coast line of the ocean.

Height:5’9”
Weight:130lbs
Frame/Build:A curvy hourglass figure
Hair Colour:Brown with highlights of light sun bleached blonde
Hair Length:Shoulder length with a sweeping fringe over the right side of her face
Eye Colour:Delicate light blue eyes which are highlighted with hazel streaks. Elspeth also has a coloboma, a defect of the pupil, in her left eye which makes her pupil eerily reminiscent of a keyhole.
Distinguishable Markings: Her coloboma is fairly distinguishable as well as the array of distinct scars on her hands.
Complexion: Elspeth has light skin with a smattering freckles across her face and arms as well as a large array of scars across her hands. She also has two small pox marks around her chin.

Behavioural Quirks Elspeth has an almost obsessive need to check upon her wares and her ship, understandable considering they are her sole source of income. She is also uncomfortable at the idea of being out of her comfort zone. She is used to sailing, selling and buying. Other things tend to make her uncomfortable, especially when they are important and others are relying on her greatly.

Personality:Elspeth is a rather calm and collected young woman with a level head and a great deal of patience. She is used to coming against hardships and working through them. She doesn’t appear very energetic or especially lively, that is all kept inside. She had to appear as the responsible and calm older sibling alongside Darni when their father died. Thus, most of her emotions have been internalised to a great degree but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t have them. Elspeth is incredibly focussed and puts a great deal of importance in family and work. Leisure time means nothing to her. She has a soft spot for children as they remind her of her younger sisters. It takes quite a lot for Elspeth’s anger to reveal itself but when it does, she can be as wrathful as the sea herself.

Elspeth is not considered the most graceful or ladylike of women. In fact, she would probably shun you if you tried to say so. She loathes the idea of being a sweet little housewife and loving graceful wife. She believes that that is not the way things are meant to be. Elspeth is also not adverse to violence. Although it does take a lot for her anger to show, she will not take being attacked lightly. She may not fight with any weapons but her fists are good enough. She was taught to fight by her brother and his friends and can throw punches like nobody’s business. However, she would have to be exceptionally hard pressed to even think about killing someone. She treats each life as sacred and although violence doesn’t faze her, the idea of taking someone’s life makes her rather uncomfortable.

Elspeth is also rather tactless. Living in a family where it was just easier to speak her mind than to skirt around the issue, she often just says what she sees or thinks without thinking about the consequences. Therefore, it can be rather difficult to warm up to the young woman. Elspeth is also a lot more familiar and comfortable around men as she feels she doesn’t fit in with the soft gentle ladylike women. Therefore, if there is a group of people, she’ll often gravitate towards the males as she feels she fits in there more.

Strengths:Elspeth has garnered quite a good deal of muscle from her work on the boat and is quite strong as a result. She is also well versed in most things to do with the ocean, whether that be fishing, sailing or just reading the sea itself and predicting the weather to some degree. She also possesses skills in repairing and building, skills that she needed for her business and her family. She is also able to fight, particularly in close combat. She was also taught to swim by the time she could toddle and is a powerful swimmer, something very important considering her situation.

Weaknesses:Elspeth has very little tact and often offends people without meaning to. She also is unversed in area of weapons other than her knives, which are almost purely for work. She is also unwilling to kill anyone and finds the idea of murder deplorable.

Equipment:A small folding pocket knife she uses for repairs, carving and work. It is made of steel and its handle is made of a stag’s antler and was bought by her father when he was trading. When he died, the knife was passed down onto her. She also carries a hunting knife for safety. The knife’s blade is also made of steel and the handle is cocobola with a brass butt and guard. This knife is carried purely for emergencies and is rarely used, meaning it is in far better condition than the folding knife. Elspeth also carries a small piece of whetstone in her pocket to sharpen her tools at any time.

Biography:Elspeth was born on the 25th of July to a lower class family in Traveila. Her mother, Ridha, had already had a son, Darni, who was three years old at the time and was very disappointed that the baby turned out to be a girl. Ridha’s husband was out fishing with his brother, Kanduke, and his brother in law, Kilno, at the time of the baby’s birth. However, this was not unusual. In fact, most of the women in the village had gone through the same thing and rallied round to support the young mother. The baby was named Elspeth Nootka Vandemere, named after her father’s mother and her family’s ship name respectively. Her father did not see the baby until her second month and was overjoyed at the sight of the tiny infant with the bright shock of brown hair upon her head. However, this just meant there was another mouth to feed and that Artur would have to work harder. The family didn’t see it this way and found the new child to be a blessing.

As Elspeth started to grow, she followed her older brother around as all children tend to do. She learned how to walk fairly quickly after becoming irritated at the fact she couldn’t keep up with Darni. Despite this advancement in walking, her speech was much slower, she didn’t properly learn to speak until well into her third year, although her family could understand what her various shrieks and wails meant. It became a common sight around the village to see the young Vandemere boy holding the hand of a babbling toddler with tangled unruly brown hair and the big blue eyes. Her older brother started to show off his younger sister, making sure everyone in the village knew that this was his sister. Darni brought it upon himself to teach his little sister a great deal of important thing such as, how to swim. Of course, he taught her in the rock pools and it wasn’t so much swimming as splashing but before too long, she was bobbing around the shallows under the watchful eyes of her mother, aunt and older brother. Darni also taught her how to fight as he worried that the older children would walk all over his baby sister. He needn’t have worried; she took to protecting herself as easily as a duck to water. Darni could help but be even more proud of his sister and started showing her off to his friends and showing them how strong the little girl was.

Elspeth was seven when her mother was pregnant for the third time and, just as Darni had been before, she was immensely excited. She couldn’t wait for another sibling and to be friends with. After all, all her friends were Darni’s friends first and they weren’t quite as friendly with her yet. Sure, they appreciated the fact that she could swim rather deep and had small hands that could fit in the cracks on the underwater rocks and the fact that she could fight back if anyone went after her but she was still ‘Darni’s little sister’ and not ‘Elspeth’. When the baby was born, she was given the name Katina and the whole family doted upon her. The baby was happy and healthy for a few months before the illness struck. The infant was infected with a horrible disease that left her unable to feed or be lifted. She couldn’t keep her food down and her skin was too sensitive to touch without causing pain. There was no treatment or cure. The family were unable to do anything but watch as the baby wasted away and eventually died. She was five months old and her father had never seen her. The family went into mourning and were hurt deeply by their loss. Elspeth refused to accept that Katina had died and spent most of her time searching round the house for the baby. This lasted a few weeks before Darni grabbed her by the wrist and dragged her out of the house before explaining that the baby wasn’t coming back. Elspeth didn’t speak for the rest of the week.

After the family had tried to get over their loss, another tragedy struck. When Artur and his brother, Kanduke, were fishing, a huge storm front had come in and battered the boat against a rocky outcrop. The ship, the Nootka V, was ripped apart by the howling raging winds and the harsh seas until only the frame remained. Artur managed to get into the lifeboat and waited for his brother who he had assumed was right behind him. Kanduke never appeared. With heavy hearts and a great deal of weeping, the family accepted that the sea had taken Kanduke, the sea that had been his life had caused his death. Artur returned to his family, wracked with grief and pain for his lost brother. Elspeth and Darni were heartbroken over their lost uncle and were scared that the sea would claim their father next time. Their father put these fears to rest, to a degree, as he said he was not going back to fishing, instead he would be a trader. This was a large decision as despite being safer, trading meant he would be away for longer. Ridha was unsure but accepted that it had to be done. Thus, Elspeth’s father, her other uncle, Kilno, Darni and Elspeth herself got to work on building the Nootka VI. The ship’s name had been passed on for generations, the name Nootka belonging to her great, great grandmother. However, this was the first time the name had been given to a trading vessel rather than a fishing boat. The Nootka VI was much larger than her previous namesakes and had a much bigger hold. The ship had two main masts which had the names Katina and Kanduke carved on the top as well as a great deal of other sails. The Nootka VI felt a little like closure for the family and Elspeth felt that as construction was completed, their grief was finally allowed to ebb a little.

Life carried on as normal for the Vandemere’s from that point on. The years passed and the children grew into teenagers and adults. Darni had reached his 21st birthday and was out fishing on his own vessel, a small ship by the name of Ridha. Elspeth had reached the age of seventeen and was determined that she was to follow in her father’s footsteps and become a trader. She wanted to see the world and return with stories like her father did. She wanted to have the same kind of adventures, see different things, meet new people. She daydreamed about this kind of life as she worked at home and on the odd boat. Their father was gone for weeks, often months at a time but when he came back, the joy was indescribable. Although as Artur worked, his family were growing. Ridha was pregnant once more and Elspeth was doing everything within her power to make sure that the pregnancy went as smoothly as possible. Darni was in a relationship with a young village woman named Haida Nyar and was completely sure that this was the woman he wanted to spend the rest of his life with. It seemed Haida felt the same way, as she was often seen waiting on the docks for the Ridha to come in each day. In fact, Darni was so sure, he was going to ask her to marry him. He had told Elspeth in a fit of worry and after laughing at his panic, she tried to soothe his fears and reassured him that, yes, Haida was as devoted to him as he was to her.

Then, that same year, deep in winter during a truly vicious storm, Ridha went into labour. For once, all the family were there to help her through it. Artur had returned a few days beforehand and Darni had thought against going out on the boat as the sea looked so horrendous, the large swells and crashing breakers. Thus, the family helped bring the smallest addition of the Vandemere family into the world. They named her Taima which means ‘crash of thunder’, a name they felt was apt considering the circumstances. A name especially apt once she opened her mouth and began to shriek the house down. Taima, thankfully, was as healthy as could be and managed to avoid most illnesses. Elspeth spent a great deal of time caring for the baby as Darni and Artur went away to work and Ridha tried to regain her strength. Elspeth was seventeen and told Taima all of their father’s stories and told her about the places she was going to see and the things she’d bring back as gifts.

When Elspeth was 25, her brother 28 and Taima was just about to turn seven, Artur became ill. He lost all of his strength and was bed bound. They all knew he had very little time left and endeavoured to make each minute count. After a few perfect days with his family, in the place he loved, Artur Vandemere died quietly in his sleep. His family were at a loss. Darni spent even more time with his new wife, Haida, and ignored his family. Taima was angry and hurt and began taking it out on their mother. Ridha was heartbroken. Elspeth felt she needed to keep everything together and get the family back into a stable position. She asked her sister in law to take Taima under her wing as Ridha grieved and Haida kindly took care of the child. Darni was earning for his own family and couldn’t keep both his household and theirs afloat. Thus, Elspeth took control of the Nootka VI, much to the annoyance of Darni and Kilno. However, as Elspeth had said, Darni had his own boat already and Kilno had no claim to the Vandemere vessel. The men argued that the boat should belong to them and that Elspeth didn’t understand what she was getting into but she tore their arguments to shreds. She made it clear that something needed to be done. Darni gave in, as he always did with his sisters, and Kilno demanded to work alongside Elspeth to keep an eye on her. Elspeth was unsure until her mother expressed her worry and then the young woman gave in. She was the captain of the Nootka VI, her family’s legacy and she would provide for her family, no matter the cost.

So begins...

Elspeth sighed before hoisting herself up into a sitting position. She lazily looked around for the pills and clumsily grabbed them, her hand barely responding. She growled angrily as the pills slid through her fingers like sand and landed onto the mattress. She scooped them up, both hands grasping the tablets and cupping them like water. Elspeth lifted her hands to her face and swallowed down the tablets like they were a bitter poison. She looked a little uncomfortable swallowing the medicine dry but didn't say anything. After consuming the pills, she dragged herself off the mattress and hobbled to stand beside Linde, feeling more than a little off balance.

Flashing the other woman a smile, Elspeth quickly fixed her appearance, slowly feeling more and more energetic. She bounced on the balls of her feet as she pulled her tangled hair back off her face.

"I feel better already." Elspeth smirked, her eyes bright and finally taking in her surroundings. Training equipment? She wanted to look at the pieces in more detail but pushed back this urge. More important things were going on after all. Something occurred to her though as she looked around.

"...Both organisations?" Elspeth asked, looking confused. "Not just...Roda Ah K'mht? But both?" The young woman placed her hands on her hips. Just what was this guy getting at?

"I was once told a story as a child that a Demon fell in love with an Angel. The story ended with the Demon's soul becoming purified by the Angel's love and the two were able to live together as one... I know it was just a tale of fantasy, a children's bedtime story... but could such a concept truly become a reality?"

"...Both organizations? Not just...Roda Ah K'mht? But both?" Elspeth asked.

The Demon turned to her and nodded.

"Yes, Te'i Sai shares the blame in more ways than one." He said, almost bitterly so despite a blank and emotionless facial expression.

Linde was beginning to understand that this expression was probably the only one he knew how to make. She couldn't imagine what his life had been like, but if it was enough to turn him into the most feared Assassin in the world then it could hardly have been what anyone would call a healthy or bright and uplifting environment. She banished her thoughts though in favor of listening to what he had to say.

"Te'i Sai has twisted the foundations of its own core beliefs in the more recent centuries, and its goal changed from keeping a semblance of balance of power among the five nations to forcing balance through complex manipulation of historical events and current laws and regulations."

He looked to Linde first.

"Why do you think you've never heard of nor been taught of the herbs and extracts which create the Heaven's Tears? Whether you believe it or not, it's because Te'i Sai has kept a tight rein on the herbs and medicines which you are exposed to in your training and practice."

He looked to Elspeth.

"All of your trade routes were established, monitored and regulated by Te'i Sai. If you ever wondered why certain routes were deemed 'inaccessible' or 'unreliable' despite clear indications on a map that they were perfectly useable, it's because of Te'i Sai not wishing those routes to be traveled. One such route is the infamous 'Wanderers Maelstrom'. Tales tell of a maelstrom which is large enough to stretch from end to end, yet if you were to actually travel there you'd find the waters as calm as a lake on a windless day. I know because I have investigated these locations personally."

"Te'i Sai has also infiltrated the highest echelons of nobility within each nation to manipulate the royal families and enforce the will of the five Grandmasters upon the land. The continent of Cre' Est belongs to them now, and I intend to see that their grip is severed, permanently." He said with a light hint of ire in his voice.

He looked back to the training equipment.

"I have studied the teachings of Te'i Sai and Roda Ah K'mht very carefully and intimately, and I have created my own equipment and exercise routines designed to counter what their respective operatives are taught. Despite their fearsome reputation, only a handful of each organization's elite operatives receive the Heaven's Tears. The rest simply feed off of the reputation the others build and rely on fear to keep any would be opposition at bay. At this stage, despite just receiving the Heaven's Tears, you both could defeat most Assassins from either organization which you happen to come across with only mild effort." He said as he looked back to both women.

"Your training begins in one hour. You have until then to inspect the equipment and familiarize yourself with how they function. I will wait here." He said, taking a seat on the ground and closing his eyes to meditate.

"Well then.." Elspeth trailed off, chewing her lip. She began pacing the room. Te'i Sai had their hands in everything? She thought that such assassin organisations and nonsense were just rumours or at least, something she wouldn't have to deal with. She was a trader, a drifter. Not someone that was involved with or influenced by these types of organisations. She paced the room, her mind spinning. Elspeth shook her head quickly before looking over the equipment.

Her brow furrowed at the different equipment. She was not used to seeing such things, her little village had nothing like this. These odd pieces were completely foreign to her. She cautiously moved over to an odd looking piece, poking it gently with her index finger. Prodding the piece of equipment did not give any information to the young woman. She chewed her lip harder before looking back over to Linde. She silently moved over to the other woman, conscious of the Red Eyed Demon possibly listening in.

"Linde...you wouldn't possibly know what any of this actual does, do you? I've...never seen anything like this before." She whispered, tucking her brown hair behind her ear. Her blue eyes roamed round the room again and gave no answers. "I'm not sure what anything does or how it works..." Elspeth smiled, looking a little embarrassed. "Do you know?"

Linde listened to Elspeth's inquiry and shook her head, slightly embarrassed.

"I can't say that I do. Looking at this one here," She said, pointing to an odd looking contraption before them, "This to me looks like it involves some kind of weight distribution to allow us to control how much is being manipulated. I can't be sure, as I'm no expert in mechanics, but I'd say this is designed to isolate a few basic muscle groups and allow us to further focus our training without wasting any effort on muscles that shouldn't be involved." She said, giving the strange machine another once over.

She wandered the room as well, checking each piece of equipment before finally returning to Elspeth.

"If you are for it, I'd recommend resting a bit more since we still have plenty of time before we begin. In order for our training to be effective, he'll have to show us how this all works and why it's here. For now, I'm going to meditate some more until he says it's time to begin." She said, taking a seat and closing her eyes.

"I was once told a story as a child that a Demon fell in love with an Angel. The story ended with the Demon's soul becoming purified by the Angel's love and the two were able to live together as one... I know it was just a tale of fantasy, a children's bedtime story... but could such a concept truly become a reality?"

((Sorry about breaking it up, but that bit was all I had time for at first.))

The Demon sat quietly, meditating to himself about what only he knew. Linde didn't dare guess, as his kind were enigmas unto themselves. With a mind that was constantly at work with the wheels turning and the neural signals flowing, how he stayed sane was beyond her scope of understanding. People with overactive minds like that needed something very powerful and special to focus them and keep them grounded.

Then, the Demon's eyes opened and he stood up slowly.

"It is time. Come with me." He ordered, walking towards two identical pieces of equipment, both of which looked like some kind of strange overdecorated box with a peep hole in the center.

Linde followed him as instructed, checking on Elspeth as well just to make sure and stopped when the Demon turned to them and gestured towards the pair of machines.

"This machine is going to test your reaction time. Stand back exactly ten feet and keep light pressure on that pad. He said, pointing to a small section of the floor that seemed oddly colored compared to the rest.

When you step on that pad, this machine will eject a throwing knife directly at your stomach. You will either have to catch it, or dodge it. If you fail… Well, don't fail. He said, taking a step away from them and crossing his arms.

You've got to be joking me… THAT'S our first test? Dodging something that could potentially kill us? She asked mentally.

Linde hesitantly took a step forward, keeping very light pressure on the pad under her foot as Elspeth took her position on the other. Linde took a second or two to breathe, taking in slow breaths and calming her heart rate which had spiked at the mention of the throwing knives aimed at her stomach. Once her heart had calmed, she looked over towards Elspeth.

"On three?" She said a bit nervously.

"One… Two… Three!" She said as she put pressure on the pad.

Then, from the ejection chamber, an object was thrown at her. She couldn't make it out at first as it was moving too fast, but her body reacted by turning to the side to try and avoid it. However, she failed to do so completely. Linde's stomach, thankfully still covered by the strange armor presented to her by the Demon, was grazed by what looked to be nothing more than a rock with a diameter of about two inches. She looked at the rock as it struck the floor behind her in another area of the training floor and then shot a skeptical look at the Demon, who had the faintest semblance of a smirk on his face.

"What in the world was that about?!" Linde demanded.

The Demon's smirk faded.

"You told us that we would have knives thrown at us, yet all I see is a rock! What in the-"

Linde's words were stopped cold as the Demon lunged forward and his right hand shot to her side just below her ribcage, which was not covered by her armor, and looked slowly down to his hand. Linde's eyes trailed after his and found that there was a small, one inch blade trapped between his fingers. Even though the blade was only one inch long, it could do some nasty things if it was not dodged successfully. The Demon had spared her this rather harsh lesson this time, but something in her mind instantly warned her that he would not be so forgiving again. The Demon walked back to the machine and went around to the back, seemingly loading it again before retaking his previous position.

"As I'm sure you just guessed Linde, the rock had a purpose. Though it will only make that single appearance, the rock was designed to test you for awareness and focus. You failed that test Linde. Your focus broke the moment you were sure you were safe from the machine after seeing the rock, and you were completely unaware of the sound of the machine still moving and preparing for its next strike. The knives fire in random intervals thanks to how the mechanism within is constructed. Stay focused, and never believe that you have your enemy 'figured out'. There is no such thing as a pattern when it comes to combat against Te'i Sai and Roda Ah K'mht. Their operatives will always have extra weaponry, tactics and fighting styles to draw upon with which they will utilize to the fullest of their capability to defeat you."

The Demon crossed his arms.

Take your place Linde, and prepare for another round. Because of your lapse in focus, I have increased the pressure on the ejection chamber. The knives will fire faster for you now. He said.

Linde cringed, taking her stance reluctantly and putting her foot on the pressure pad. She took a few breaths, and then pressed it once more. True to his word, the machine did not fire immediately. Instead, she heard a subtle ticking sound like that of a clock. Slowly, she prepared herself for what was to come. There was a single click that was slightly louder than the others, and Linde's body instantly turned to the side as the first dagger was fired. It came out swiftly, more so than the first one had, and flew passed her and to the floor beyond. She retook her stance and prepared to face down the next wave, as the ticking sound had resumed. This time, the there was no louder tick. The knife was ejected and Linde reacted as fast as she could, but it was not enough. The blade struck her armor just below the right side of her ribcage and was forceful enough to cause her a small gasp.

She stepped away for a moment, listening for the machine, but found that it was not ticking anymore. She looked at her foot and saw that it had left the pad, and she realized then that the machine was only active so long as pressure remained on the pad. Linde looked to Elspeth, and then looked to the Demon. She walked over to the side and removed the armor the Demon had given her. Thankfully the Demon had given her a change of clothing beneath the armor when he had put it on in the first place, and she was wearing a white tunic which was kind of nice. However, if she failed like that again, it would be red soon enough. Once removed of her armor, Linde returned to her place beside Elspeth on her respective machine and prepared for the next round.

Training indeed… This feels more like he just wants to humiliate us. She thought to herself.

(It's fine, really! :3)

Elspeth stared at the Demon and at Linde as if they were completely mad. Knives. They had to dodge knives. As well as that, Linde had nice armour, Elspeth had a raggedy coat she had stolen from her older brother. The young woman was mentally screaming while outwardly she was trying to maintain her calm. She rested her foot lightly on the pad as she watched Linde take off her armour.

"...Possibly not the best idea..." She muttered, turning back to the machine. A series of small clicks started up and Elspeth squared her shoulders, hands cupped at her stomach. Listening to the clicks, she waited for a louder one, like what Linde had had. At the slightly louder click, Elspeth stretched her arms out, hands still in the cupped position. A dagger flew from the machine and shot straight towards her hands. The blade sliced her palms but got caught, marking its entry with a dribble of red. Elspeth grinned, spinning the tiny knife between her fingers.

"Caught it." She smirked before slipping the dagger into her pocket along with her own knives. A quick rub of her palms to get rid of most of the blood than made her hands slippery and she was ready again. Her hands ached a little but she was used to such pain. Her palms were littered with scars from playing and working with knives after all. This was a different situation perhaps but the logic was the same: save the fingers, catch with palms. She could practically hear her brother say those words to her. She cupped her hands again and waited for the click. The click that never came. Another knife threw itself at her. However, this time was different. Yes, she tried to catch it in the same manner and her palms were cut again as she slowed with momentum but this time it was closer to her body. A bit too close. Elspeth let out a soft yelp as the very tip of the knife imbedded itself in her stomach, hanging from the edges of her palms. She slowly removed the knife and double checked the wound quickly. Certain she wasn't in any real danger, Elspeth turned on the Demon, her eyes blazing. She bit her tongue and hopped off the pressure pad, stalking round the room and muttering to herself in her native language. She looked up at the Red Eyed Demon after a moment or so.

"You...you must be insane. Knives. Knives being the first test?!" She threw the dagger down, the blade skittering across the floor with a shrill sound. The young woman swiped her palms on her clothes again, marking them a ruby red. "How is that a good idea?!"

"I've worked with knives my entire life. This is not how you treat blades! You respect the damage they can do, the work they can be used for and the skill required to wield them. You don't use them to embarrass people!" Elspeth said lowly, her eyes fixed on the Demon. "Test, indeed. This is a humiliation game, nothing more."

"I was once told a story as a child that a Demon fell in love with an Angel. The story ended with the Demon's soul becoming purified by the Angel's love and the two were able to live together as one... I know it was just a tale of fantasy, a children's bedtime story... but could such a concept truly become a reality?"

Linde's face drained of color when Elspeth lashed out verbally at the Demon, basically shouting what had been running through Linde's mind for most of the time. The Demon was silent, arms crossed, and unmoving as Elspeth vented her anger. Oddly, it was the Demon's silence which scared Linde the most. His face was unreadable, and that was dangerous. When facial tells were impossible, there was no preparing for whatever might come next.

Linde watched with her breath held as the Demon looked down at the small knife on the floor which Elspeth had thrown and walked over to pick it up. He did so carefully, gently almost, and walked over to put it back into the machine which fired it at Elspeth previously. He went about his work calmly, and faced Elspeth when he was finished putting it away.

"You think it's about humiliation, do you?" He asked, walking over and taking Elspeth's place with his foot on her pressure pad.

The Demon pressed down, and the instant the blade was fired it was in his hand. Held lightly in between his fingertips as if he had picked it up off of a tabletop, the blade had no indications of ever scraping flesh. He turned to Elspeth, holding the blade up in front of her.

"The throwing knife is the most commonly used weapon in the arsenal of both Te'i Sai and Roda Ah K'mht. Why? Because they are small, portable, and silent."

The machine fired another knife, and the Demon placed his left hand behind his back, catching it in between his middle and index finger and holding it up as well.

"It may sound extreme to pit you against such a weapon so soon, but the fact is that this is what you're most likely to see. When you do, the blades will be a minimum of four inches in length, as that's as small as Te'i Sai's smithery makes them. If you can't catch this one inch blade, which flies slower and cuts shallower, then you haven't a prayer against a real Assassin." He said, walking back to the machine and reloading the two knives he just caught.

He looked back at Linde and Elspeth when he was finished, gesturing for them to come closer.

"Observe." He said as he took a dagger in his hand and waited for the machine to fire.

The machine let fly, and so too did the Demon. Linde's eyes, new as they were to the effects of the Heaven's Tears, saw everything happen. The Demon released his dagger after the machine had fired, and yet it was his dagger which flew well beyond the range of the machine and stuck in the wall on the opposite side of the room before the dagger from the machine could even hit the floor. Two hundred yards from the Demon to the wall, and his dagger stuck in the wall before the machine could spit out the dagger a mere fifty feet. Linde was in awe, and her stomach churned for a brief instant at the thought of how much damage such a throw could do to a human body depending on the quality of the blade.

"That is about as slow as you'll ever see a dagger fly at you when facing down the Assassins." He said in a low voice.

Linde's eyes slowly made their way over to meet his, the color beginning to drain from her face.

"That was slow?" She asked.

The Demon nodded.

"As hard as it might be to believe it, that is the speed which our youngest and freshest Assassins who have taken the Heaven's Tears are required to throw. The Elites, who have long since made the Heaven's Tears a permanent part of their body's systems, throw much faster than what you just saw from me. The fastest Elite I've observed threw about this fast." He said, taking another dagger from behind his back and letting fly.

Linde watched the blade, but it was in the wall before her eyes had the chance to even see it leave the Demon's hand. The dagger itself was embedded so deep in the rocky wall that Linde almost thought the blade had been lost within it. Her face lost all of its color, and she slumped to the ground on her knees.

"… We're supposed to fight that?" She asked weakly, her morale faltering.

The Demon walked over and yanked her to her feet.

"Yes, you are. You both opted for this path, and now I am preparing you for what you will face. It will take many more doses of the Heaven's Tears before you're ready to face an Elite, but for the time being you will prepare to fight those whom are closer to your skill level. At the moment, that would be Assassins who are just as new to the Heaven's Tears as you are, as well as those which have never tasted of it at all."

Linde looked at the Demon for a moment and then back to the machine, seeing it in something of a new light. It was almost as if the machine itself was just another box now, and seemed much less of a threat after watching the Demon throw that dagger into the wall.

"… May I request that you turn down the pressure just a bit?" My body and eyes are still not ready for its current setting." She said, almost absentmindedly.

The Demon gave her a glare, but walked over to the machine and turned a dial which dropped the pressure and thus the speed at which the daggers traveled.

"I will leave it at this setting for now. However, the instant I see you adjust and begin catching the daggers with consistency and accuracy, the pressure goes up. I will not negotiate with you about my training methods. They sound and appear harsh and without point, but there is a method to the madness which will become obvious to you when you fight an Assassin for the first time." He said before walking away to give the machine space to do its work.

Linde inhaled deeply, letting her breath out on a sigh. She took her stance and put her foot on the pressure pad, resting an instant before she pushed it down. The machine let fly almost immediately, which she wasn't prepared for. However, her eyes were able to track the path of the dagger flying at her much more easily than before. She side stepped and let it go passed, not a single piece of clothing or flesh touched in the process. She returned to a neutral stance and waited. A second dagger flew at her, but rather than side step she reached forward a touch and slapped her hands together. It was a mistake on her part, as the blade had been horizontal to the ground and sliced into her palms.

She was not used to such things as trying to catch a knife. She'd never done it before today. But this was the best she could do. She was a physical hand to hand fighter, not a weapons expert. She dropped the knife and wiped her hands on her pants before waiting for the next round.

Elspeth gritted her teeth before stalking over to the training area once more, her anger simmering beneath her expressionless face. She watched as Linde tried to catch the knife and cut herself. She noted her own palms were becoming streaked with blood once more and wiped them once again. She grit her teeth as she placed her foot on the pressure pad. She readied herself for the next knife. As she waited, her mind wandered. This was ridiculous, madness. She was a trader, not a fighter like the Demon or some sort of prodigy as Linde seemed to be. She came from a tiny town by the sea and had little more than a shio to her name. This was ridiculous, insane, even. She shifted to the side a little, not aware of her actions as her mind raced, doubts filling ever crevice. A soft click sounded that Elspeth did not hear and the next knife flew. It clipped her side, a scratch compared to what could have happened but it still elicited a tight painful gasp. Elspeth's hands instantly found her side and she stepped off the pressure pad, her grip tight on her wound. She cursed again, putting pressure on the wound. Biting her lip hard, she fixed her stance and awaited the knife.

No click this time but the knife seemed easier to see. She caught it in her palms once more, this time less damaged being done. She was acutely aware that her side was bleeding and that a line or two was starting to run down her torso. She ignored this and got ready for the next round.

"And here we go again." She muttered, pulling her hair back once more, a determined expression plastered upon her face.

"I was once told a story as a child that a Demon fell in love with an Angel. The story ended with the Demon's soul becoming purified by the Angel's love and the two were able to live together as one... I know it was just a tale of fantasy, a children's bedtime story... but could such a concept truly become a reality?"

The Demon watched silently as the two women went about their training to catch the knives, and after a few minutes of watching them cut themselves, he stepped in to offer a word of advice.

"Do not attempt to trap it, but rather accept it. The blade is not to be feared or controlled, as it is but lifeless metal. It is the mind of the one who wields it that is to be treated with caution, and if you treat the blade as if it were a living threat then it will become as such to you." He had said before letting them get right back to work.

It was not very helpful in Linde's mind. She saw no point, nor did she see any reason to continue with what seemed a pointless exercise. Over and over again she caught the knives, several times cutting herself on her hands and sides as she mistimed the stepping of her feet against the coming wave of blades. Every time the machine ran low, the Demon grabbed the knives from the floor and replaced them before stepping away to let it resume its work. For what seemed an eternity, they trained, until finally the Demon ordered them to step away from the pressure pads and await further instruction.

Linde's hands were shredded, and her sides painted red as her once white tunic became soaked in blood. It was small amounts from each individual wound which created the new stains, which made it seem worse than it was, but it was still none the less a very painful and stinging sensation to have so many small cuts adorning her body. She watched as the Demon stepped towards the backs of the machines and placed his hands beyond their view, presumably on the switch to increase the pressure. Was he finally going to up the ante? It seemed like he'd driven them into the ground already, and as cut and scraped as Linde was, he expected yet more?

But the Demon surprised her by emptying the loading mechanism by all save one blade, setting the rest down gently on the ground.

"Linde, how long do you think you just stood there catching knives?" He asked.

Linde thought for a moment.

"If by catching you mean serving my hands up for sliced meat, then I'd say at least two hours." She remarked, somewhat sarcastically.

The Demon scoffed at her statement, the first kind of semblance of entertainment that Linde had seen of him as he shook his head.

"To you, the failures and frustration made it seem like hours, but you've only been standing there for thirty minutes… Would you like to see your progress?" He asked.

Linde was taken aback and her eyes opened in shock.

"This is some kind of joke right? How has it only been thirty minutes?" She asked.

The Demon only stared at her.

"I said, would you like to se your progress?" He repeated.

Linde sighed, and nodded.

The Demon clicked a button in the back of the machine, and a dagger flew at Linde. To her eyes, it was moving in slow motion. She grabbed it between her index finger and her thumb as if merely picking it up off of a surface or out of someone's hand. She looked at it, then to Elspeth to ensure that she had seen it just as easily and slowly as she had, and then back to the Demon.

"And what was that? The lowest setting?" She joked.

The Demon shook his head.

"That is the setting with which you started but thirty minutes ago and couldn't catch it to save your life." He said, placing his left hand on the top of Linde's machine.

Linde's mouth hung slightly open as she looked at the blade in her hand, and the Demon clicked a button and sent the final blade flying at Elspeth, which had the same effect it had for Linde. Slow, almost sluggishly so, and nothing that Elspeth couldn't capture with such ease it was almost laughable.

"This is the most important and the most highly sought after effect of the Heaven's Tears… Your mind and body work as one nearly fifty times faster than a normal human being, and thus what takes others years to master takes you but a few hours. If you were to continue this practice for another half hour, imagine the continued improvement." He said, placing his right hand on top of Elspeth's device before walking forward towards them.

"I told you there was a method to the madness, and I was not lying. Your minds and bodies will now learn to memorize movements, recognize patterns, read the very currents of the air around your flesh, all in a matter of hours. Under my guidance, you will learn all that you require to stand on even ground with the lower level Assassins who have tasted of the Heaven's Tears, and it will take but a few days of intense practice. If you can commit to such an endeavor, then you will set yourselves up for success without me." He said.

Linde was almost too stunned by her own achievement to hear what he said, but the words did sink in and cut through her daydreaming. She heard him say without me, and nearly gasped.

"What do you mean without you? If you're not there, what happens to us if we come across one who is more advanced than we are?" She asked.

The Demon regarded her with a glance.

"You do not need to fear. I will be watching you as you progress, as you two may now consider yourselves my allies. I wouldn't be much of one myself if I just let you wander into such dangers without a means to protect you now would I?" He asked, giving her a smile.

Linde's mouth opened, but no sound came out. Her eyes locked on his, and took in the picture of the Red-Eyed Demon… Smiling.

He was smiling… The Red-Eyed Demon was smiling. Not only that, but at her. No malice, no emptiness, nothing except a warm and genuine smile. She had never thought it possible. Despite being treated kindly by him, save for the harsh training method, she didn't think him one to smile at all for any reason. Yet here he was, giving both Linde and Elspeth a true smile. And she had to admit, it was a very handsome one. Those lightly glowing crimson red eyes accentuated his features against his black hair and made him look almost dashing, had it not been for the ragged and aged clothing he wore. She closed her mouth and looked to Elspeth, checking to see if she too was seeing the same thing that Linde was now.

(Sorry for the inactivity, illness got the better of me once again. But I'm better now so it's all good :3)

Elspeth couldn't help but smile back at the assassin, her blue eyes narrowing as she grinned. She had to admit that he looked fairly attractive when he wasn't pulling the whole emotionless killer routine. Elspeth felt Linde's eyes on her and turned. The other woman looked fairly shocked and her expression made the trader laugh, a low pitched chuckle that feel easily from her lips. She smirked, before wiping her bloody palms once again. The wounds gave a light sting as she wiped them but the pain was ebbing, something she was very grateful for. She looked back up at the Red Eyed Demon briefly, tilting her head to the side ever so slightly.

"Allies, huh?" She asked, sounding a little curious but not pushing the matter. She was sure he'd explain just what being one of his allies entailed. Possibly not now but, eventually. Elspeth didn't mind though. Her mind just kept drifting back to the fact that this was such an adventure, a true blooded adventure. An quest that mirrored the type of thing she'd been dreaming of for years. The young woman grinned, spinning a loose knife between her fingers. "Interesting...very interesting..."

Linde blinked at Elspeth when she laughed, and when Elspeth said 'interesting' Linde was a little confused.

The Demon's smile had faded in those moment, however, and he was back in what appeared to be something of a business type mood.

"Now that we have measured your progress, it's time for the two of you to wrap your wounds and rest. The day is still young, and I will have plenty of time to test the rest of your limits as we continue." He said, taking a seat at a chair next to a small table in the corner.

Linde had something to ask though, and she made her way over to the Demon with her hands clasped together in front of her stomach.

"May we have your name?" She asked.

"It wouldn't do to just call one of our allies 'Demon' all the time after all." She said softly.

The Demon looked at her for a moment, but then closed his eyes and let out a breath.

"A name is nothing but a label, and I have long since abandoned my own in favor of monikers which suit my immediate objectives. For now, you may refer to me as 'Master' while you are in training. Once your training is complete, I will provide you with a new moniker to address me by. But for now, get some rest." He said quietly.

Linde nodded, letting out a soft sigh as she had been hoping for a real name. But still, given who she was talking to, it was a start. In the meantime she walked over to where she had left her belongings and brought out a needle and thread from her pack as well as a strike stick and some small hand carved wooden needles. She used the strike match to light the tips of the needles and ran the flame over the metal needle thread she was about to use to stitch her wounds, and once it burned red for a moment she doused the wooden needle and put them away. She attached thread to the metal needle and got to work sewing the cuts on her hands one by one, as well as those on her sides. When she was finished, she looked to Elspeth.

"Would you like me to help with yours as well? It'll only take a few minutes." She offered.

Elspeth looked up, slightly surprised. She had been struggling to tend to her wounds when Linde had spoken, surprising her a little. The young woman looked up before nodding slightly.

"Yes, that would be a...great help. I'm not used to tending my own wounds." Elspeth chuckled nervously, blushing slightly. It was true, she was accustomed to dealing with her brother's and sister's injuries while her brother or mother tended to her own. Thinking of her family brought forth a trickling of emotion. Her face fell a little as thoughts of her dear mother and siblings drifted through her thoughts. She thought of her ship soon after as both she and Elspeth's family were tightly bound. The young woman hoped her ship was being looked after. She had placed it in the long stay docks but still, the nagging worry remained.

"I don't think I can rest at the moment...the sea is too far away for my liking." Elspeth noted quietly, talking more to herself than to anyone else. Her eyes glazed over as she thought of her ocean, her routes, the sea spray dappling her face. The young woman let out a low sigh before smiling weakly at Linde, offering a show of reassurance. Despite this, her thoughts stayed adrift, bobbing through the breakers.

"Much, much too far away..."

"I was once told a story as a child that a Demon fell in love with an Angel. The story ended with the Demon's soul becoming purified by the Angel's love and the two were able to live together as one... I know it was just a tale of fantasy, a children's bedtime story... but could such a concept truly become a reality?"

Linde approached Elspeth and gently took her hands as she examined the depth and length of each cut. There were a couple of nasty ones for sure, and it seemed that a few old scars had reopened in the wake of the damages. This was going to be difficult. Linde had Elspeth sit down and she began working on her left hand first. She applied a cool, soothing salve to the wound to slowly numb the feeling of pain as it calmed the nerves in her hand which kept the stinging to a minimum. As soon as she was sure there was no feeling in Elspeth's hands, she got to work cleaning them out with damp cloth and applied numerous a strong disinfectant to each cut before cleaning her hands and sewing the wounds shut with a brand new needle. She repeated the process on her right hand, and once both were done she lifted the woman's shirt on the side to check the scratches on her sides.

"I think I'll do these too since I'm here already." She said, not really waiting for an answer.

It took a few minutes, but she managed to clean Elspeth's wounds on her sides as well. Once she was done she looked about to see if she couldn't find a good place to sit and rest. The Demon said they had time to rest, but how much time? An hour? Maybe less? Maybe more? He hadn't said. He had simply sat down in his chair and closed his eyes, seeming to rest himself as he told them to do the same. She watched the Demon for a moment, analyzing the features in his face.

His skin was smooth, despite the rumors of it being scarred and battered. Not a scratch to be seen anywhere which spoke volumes of his skills and ability to defend himself from attacks. Not even a wandering blade or needle had grazed him from what she could tell in the candle light. His neck was full and muscular, leading down into broad shoulders and a pronounced chest which was not well hidden beneath his shirt even though it was black. His arms, being crossed, revealed the extent of his lats beneath his shoulders and to the side of his chest, and she could not even begin to imagine how he'd managed to gain such muscle growth and tone in his lats. It was one of the hardest muscle groups to isolate and build, let alone to the extent which he had. Was he planning to do the same to them?

Honestly, she couldn't see herself or Elspeth as having giant muscles. Then again, taking another look at the Demon, even though he had a pronounced musculature, it was modest in size. His arms were not extensively large or massive in any way, and seemed to suit his body size perfectly. His legs were a similar story despite what they were capable of in terms of his ability to jump, land from high places, and direct force to a specific point in a kick or stomp. His clothing hid the rest of his body from her, and she had to admit that her doctoral side was eager to see the rest of his musculature. To be able to analyze such a specimen was extremely uncommon… But it also made it sound slightly perverted as well, doctoral curiosity or no.

His knowledge of the human body must have been profound. At that moment, the Demon's eyes opened, and Linde instinctively flinched at his gaze as his red eyes fell upon her. He stood up from his chair and looked out at his training equipment. He walked passed both her and Elspeth as he began inspecting each station one after the other, making adjustments as he went along.

Was their rest over?

As he returned to them from his activities, she decided to ask.

"Are we to continue?" She asked.

He looked back at her and raised an eyebrow.

"If your goal is to strain your body to the point of muscular collapse, then yes. If you wish to allow your body time to recuperate and properly absorb the benefits of the training you just had, then no." He responded, taking a seat once again in his chair.

Linde stood up and approached.

"So, what will our training schedule look like?" She asked.

The Demon only opened one eye and glared at her, to which she silenced herself and stepped back. The Demon's eye closed, and his mouth began to open.

"If you truly wish to know, then you will wait until tomorrow morning. Until then, rest." He said.

--------------------------------------------------

One Week Later

One week felt like an eternity.

That first day training against the knives had been heaven compared to the rest of the training that Linde and Elspeth were forced to endure. The distance running, the leaping, the hand/hand and hand/weapon and weapon/weapon sparring, the reflex training, the combat technique/form training… All of it crammed into a single day, and the process repeated for six days in a row after their first leisurely day against the knife machine. Some of the machines elsewhere stretched their bodies to make them more flexible while others pushed their physical limits to the brink and beyond. Linde had collapsed several times from muscle fatigue, and promptly given some kind of strange 'massage' by the Demon which seemed to reinvigorate her muscles. What he did to her she did not know, but she had a feeling it had to do with her nervous system as several key points were pressure points. Some kind of strange acupressure without needles.

By the end of the six days of training, Linde was beyond fatigued. Her legs were jelly, her arms equally so, and her stomach and back muscles screaming in agony as the Demon finally relented and told them they were finished. Linde had never slept so soundly in all her life as she did that night leading into the dawn of their eight day with the Red-Eyed Demon. Both she and Elspeth had been exhausted to levels beyond imagining, yet, when they awoke their bodies had almost completely recovered.

The marvels of the Heaven's Tears kept on coming, even after a little over a week since having been exposed to it. The Demon told them that their next dose would be sometime within the next two to three weeks depending on how long their bodies held onto the effects of the first dose. He also informed them that the subsequent doses were much easier to handle than the first since their bodies had acclimated themselves to the effects and would only feel mild nausea as the effect was reinstated into their systems anew. That, she could handle, as the news only went downhill from there.

The Demon had finally decided it was time for them to know the whole truth, and so he told Elspeth and Linde the reality facing both Te'i Sai and Roda Ah K'mht which he had previously hidden from them.

Te'i Sai's Grandmasters, of which there was one for each nation on the continent, had long ago since been born to a line of corrupted and power hungry dictators who preached of peace and equality among the five nations, yet their actions told a very different story. The reality of their extending their hands to all corners of the continent's political and social arenas was revealed in full, and the enormous numbers of operatives who had taken up such positions was staggering. According to the Demon, there were thousands of Te'i Sai operatives throughout each nation working to ensure that the will of the Grandmasters made it to the top so that people began living the way they wanted. Even the social norms were Te'i Sai inspired to give the five nations each a different outlook on life and to keep them at just such a distance from one another as to prevent way, yet never truly ally themselves together in case something happened and Te'i Sai's influence was revealed.

Roda Ah K'mht's status and methods were also revealed. They were working to eliminate Te'i Sai, as they felt entitled to the phrase "most powerful Assassin organization in the world." They fought with and killed Te'i Sai operatives wherever they could find them, however, unlike Te'i Sai, they did not see anything wrong with taking what they pleased wherever they found it. They raped innocent women, killed elderly and children who 'got in their way', and mercilessly slaughtered anyone who happened to witness their actions. Te'i Sai at least had a code of honor that it followed as far as its operatives actions were concerned, but not Roda Ah K'mht. Of the two, Te'i Sai would be the easier to combat since they wouldn't stoop to using innocent lives as human shields and puppets which could complicate any confrontational environment they found themselves in.

Linde and Elspeth were prepped with new gear, including something very special.

Both women were given chest plates, abdominal guards, and back plates made of the legendary metal known as Orichalcum. This nigh unbreakable metal was the key to the Red-Eyed Demon's success, and as it turned out Linde had sampled it already. That strange, translucent green metal with a solid black core which she had worn before was none other than Orichalcum. Since Elspeth had come into their fold later, the Demon hadn't had time to acquire her armor until after she started training. Now that they were both ready to move on and assist him in his quest to eliminate both organizations, they were ready for the best protection he could offer. They were also given maps of hidden catacombs and underground cities, the existence of which had long since been hidden from the world above by Te'i Sai. The use of such passageways would make travel and stealth much more simple and convenient as they continued their mission, which happened to be as followed:

Linde and Elspeth were to travel to the capitol city of Cre' Est and seek out one of the Red-Eyed Demon's only trusted informants, a man named Drake. He was a mercenary with a healthy reputation at his back, and a massive double handed sword which he could wield one handed. Linde guessed it was because of the Heaven's Tears, but they'd know that for sure when they met him. According to the Demon Drake had dirty blonde hair, deep blue eyes, and a large muscular frame. He'd be hard to miss, as he wandered the streets by both day and night on a near constant surveillance at the Demon's request. Once they found him, he'd instruct them further on what they'd have to do to strike out against Te'i Sai.

Roda Ah K'mht would have to wait for the time being.

Once they were prepped and ready, the Demon led them outside where he took off for his own unknown destination. He let the women take two horses he'd acquired to travel the eight day trip to the capitol where they'd find Drake waiting for them in the Central Square in the market quarter not far from the city's south entrance. The trip there was quiet and uneventful, but upon arrival eight days later Linde tied her horse to a tree hidden in the lightly forested area beyond the city gates and led Elspeth to the location since this was her home city. Having been born and raised here in the capitol, Linde knew it like the back of her hand. They took to the rooftops as early as they could after sneaking passed the guards, but upon arrival Drake was not there as promised.

Linde looked around and discovered the faint aroma of blood in the air, and she knew something had happened.

"Elspeth… I'll search below in the streets. You stick to the rooftops. If you find Drake, signal me with two sharp whistles, and be careful. The smell of blood can only mean battle in this city, as the residents are too peaceful and lazy to be violent to any extreme such as this." She warned.

With that, Linde hopped down to the street level and began searching for Drake.

((At this stage I'm going to let you give Elspeth complete free reign. If you'd like her to encounter a few Te'i Sai operatives and have a nice fight all for herself, go for it. Right now you're free to express your creativity in full.))

"Perfect." Elspeth grinned before hopping across to another rooftop, her blue eyes scanning across the street. The new armour hung from her body, pulling her down a little bit. She wasn't quite used to this new weight weighing down on her chest and it limited her movement a little. She half wanted to remove the heavy chest piece and feel a little freer but the idea seemed a little...troubling. After all, if she did run into a few Te'i Sai, she'd prefer to have the armour on. The Orichalcum was an odd greenish colour and the merchant in her reminded her a few times that people would most likely pay good money for the colour alone, its properties would just up the price even more.

She carried on moving across the rooftops, her feet as silent as cat paws. She would never have been able to be this quiet without the Heaven's Tears. She was usually rather heavy footed, a side effect of having to plant herself against the winds that wreaked havoc on the sea and shore. The young woman fell into a low crouch, her eyes searching for a mop of dirty blonde hair. Nothing so far. Elspeth rolled her eyes before quickly moving across the flat roof. She peeked down at the street, the familiar pathways staring back up at her. She'd been here many a time, with her uncle. They'd often rested here and traded a few times as well. The capitol city was a place she was used to but not overtly fond of. She found it too...large for her liking. Too many people. She was glad the Linde had opted for the streets so that she didn't have to deal with all the people. The captain stretched like a cat before hopping another couple of rooftops. As she landed on the surface as quiet as a mouse, she froze. A sharp scent burned at her nose, an almost painful overwhelming scent. She covered her nose with her palm, grimacing. She turned on the spot, trying to pinpoint the source of the smell. She lifted her hand away slightly and the thick smell of copper tinged the air. Elspeth's hand instantly moved to her side where she had slipped her knives underneath her armour. She had no idea if the other two knew she had kept the raggedy pieces and didn't really care, to be perfectly honest. They were useful and reminded her of home, something she treasured right now. The feeling of uneasiness was dampened down but the feel of the familiar knife hilt hidden underneath her green tinged armour. She moved forward, following the thick scent that lingered in the air, knife resting between her fingers. Elspeth crept forward, swiping her hair behind her ear with furious impatience. The young woman's eyes narrowed at the sight of the source of the coppery smell. Linde's words rang around her ears.

"The smell of blood can only mean battle in this city, as the residents are too peaceful and lazy to be violent to any extreme such as this."

The young woman grit her teeth, tightening her hold on her work knife. If the residents of the city weren't the ones who would be fighting, there was only a few other options. Considering her current situation, Elspeth narrowed those options to one. Te'i Sai. Elspeth cursed softly under her breath, her eyes narrowing. She did have something to be doing right now. However, she could hardly leave these assassins in the city, especially considering what she, Linde and the Demon were planning on doing. Elspeth closed her eyes over slightly, hoping that Linde was having better luck finding this 'Drake' than she was. With this, she crept closer to the street the smell originated from where the operatives were, sticking very closely to the shadows that surrounded her.

Elspeth peeked over the rooftop and frowned. Nobody. But the smell was still assaulting her nose. She winced and pulled her sleeve over her nose. The young woman followed the sharp scent and found an air vent. An open air vent. Elspeth stared at the air vent before looking round quickly. She didn't exactly want to go look what was going on down there. The captain pushed her hair back quickly, biting her lip. This was uncharted territory for the young woman. She had an objective and this was a complete detour from what she was expecting. The young woman made a quick decision. She decided to use her contacts within the market. The young woman hopped down to the ground and sought out an old friend.

A young man stood at a stall, sorting out his display. Elspeth grinned as she crept up on the vendor and poked him in the back. He leapt, looking panicked.

"What's going on?! I didn't do anything, I swe- oh. It's you." He muttered, looking slightly more relieved.

"Is that really any way to greet an old friend?" Elspeth smirked. She knew that he would have to help her. He owed her one after all. The young man's face fell as he realised what exactly she wanted.

"Elspeth, no, I..." His face darkened as he grabbed her arm. "I am not doing anything for you, Vandemere!" The young woman scoffed as she slipped out of the man's slack grip.

"Yes, you are, Adan. Besides," Elspeth grinned, playing with one of the nick nacks Adan had on his table. "It's not even that hard. I just need you to find someone for me. Discreetly."

"Who?" Adan sighed, rubbing his forehead tiredly. He just hoped that he wouldn't get in too much trouble this time round.

"Guy called Drake." Elspeth quickly gave her contact the details and gave Adan a peck on the cheek. "I knew you'd be able to help me."

"I haven't said I'd help you yet!" Adan yelled after Elsepth as she sauntered away. She laughed, throwing her head back. She turned on the spot and grinned, her bright blue eyes gleaming.

"Of course you will, honey. You owe me one." With that Elspeth broke into a light jog, knowing that her market place friend could find anyone. He was skilled in the art of finding people, especially ones that didn't want to be found. Elspeth climbed up to the rooftop and frowned. Now, she had to deal with the slight issue of the bloodshed. She remembered about Linde and knew that she needed to find her and inform her of the problem. She gave a long high whistle, remembering their signal and adapting it a little. She just hoped Linde knew what she meant and returned the signal so she could find her and solve this mystery.

Elspeth perked up as a sharp whistle replied to her signal. Perhaps a late response but a response nonetheless. She stopped her exploration of the city and honed in on the source of the whistle. She took a sharp left turn and launched herself from one of the flatter roofs onto a tiled building, instantly regretting her choice. Her feet slipped on contact with the tiles and she ended up smacking her chin off the roof. Her teeth dug into her fleshy tongue, a sharp scent of copper filling her mouth and her nose. Elspeth cringed at the almost overwhelming smell. The young woman pulled herself up to her feet, careful of the slippery tiles. She carefully double checked the tip of her tongue was still attached before carrying on her quest to find Linde.

She spotted her upon a rooftop. Elspeth frowned slightly at this as Linde was meant to be doing ground work but she wasn't about to argue about it. She was just glad she'd found her comrade. A quick hop, skip and a jump and Elspeth was standing in front of Linde, a wide grin on her face. The bleeding hadn't stopped any and she didn't trust herself to talk quite this second so she just tried to communicate everything through that grin. The young woman absently brushed at her chin, conscious of the light scratches there. Elspeth quickly looked Linde up and down, frowning. She forgot about her own injuries when she saw the state Linde was in.

"What happened?" Elspeth asked, her brow furrowed and her voice wet with blood. "Are you alright?"

"I was once told a story as a child that a Demon fell in love with an Angel. The story ended with the Demon's soul becoming purified by the Angel's love and the two were able to live together as one... I know it was just a tale of fantasy, a children's bedtime story... but could such a concept truly become a reality?"

Linde waited patiently for Elspeth to arrive, and once she had Linde took immediate notice of her mouth and chin. As a doctor, such details couldn't escape her eyes since she spent the better part of her life looking at and tending to wounds of all shapes and sizes. When Elspeth asked if she was alright, Linde responded promptly.

"I'm find, just a little shaken is all." She said as she stood up.

"I had my first run in with Te'i Sai not far from here, and had the leader not been honorable enough to tend to his subordinates I likely wouldn't be standing here right now." She said, taking a closer look at Elspeth's chin and mouth.

"You should be alright so long as you don't aggravate the cut. As best you can try to refrain from too much speaking for the next ten minutes or so. But do tell me what you found before you do that." She said, a slight chuckle escaping her lips.

Elspeth grinned before carefully opening her mouth, careful not to dribble blood down her scratched red chin. She carefully worked her jaw to reduce the slight stinging pain that spread across her chin as she spoke.

"Well, there was a strong smell of blood coming from one of the buildings around the market area. I didn't go inside to check it out as I wanted to regroup and tell you what was going on...I'm guessing if you had a run in with Te'i Sai recently, they had something to do with it." Elspeth trailed off, frowning slightly. "What happened between you and Te'i Sai anyway?" The captain asked, tilting her head to the side slightly.

Before Linde could say anything, however, Elspeth started a little. "I also enlisted a little help in our search for Drake. Don't worry, my...associate will be discrete." Elspeth smirked, thinking about Adan running around the streets, seeking out Drake and most likely cursing her name and everything about her. "He owes me a rather large favour after all." Elspeth laughed softly, her eyes twinkling.

"But yes, what happened between you and Te'i Sai?"

"But yes, what happened between you and Te'i Sai?" Elspeth asked.

Linde took a breath and brushed off her armor for a moment.

"Well… I fought them." She said, looking back up at Elspeth.

"The fight itself wasn't terrible, but I didn't exactly have fun either. Their leader was beyond me, even at my best. I'm just glad he put the health and safety of his subordinates before his concern with dealing with me, otherwise, as I said already, you'd be alone right now in this quest the Demon has put us on." She commented.

She took a moment to look around, making sure there were no overly curious eyes about below them in the streets or on the rooftops around them.

"Also, they seemed to be looking for a 'mercenary' as well. I'm not sure if it's Drake they were after, but they're here searching for someone all the same… I think we'd do well to avoid contact with them if at all possible given what I experienced." She said.

Linde was about to speak, but suddenly stopped herself as she eyed Elspeth slightly cautiously.

"Are you sure it's a good idea to bring in an outsider on this mission? I know he's your contact and you must trust him, but is it safe to bring him into something like this?" She asked.
