A thought made real by use of written language. Words made tangible by a divine blessing. Jette is the product of a single person's mind; the author. A scholar possessing the rare skill of literacy and plagued by lonliness saw to the boy's creation. With so many ideas running through their mind, the author wrote about a world filled with magic and adventure - and Jette; the main character who would experience all the world had to offer. With each word written, the author fell more in love with what they had created. So much so that they prayed to the Gods in the heavens that their fiction become a reality. The writings continued for a short time thereafter. Then, one day - nothing. The writings stopped. Time went by and the brown leatherbound book was covered by a thin layer of dust. It was then that Lorelle, Goddess of love, took pity on the vanished author and the unfinished story. Breathing life into the pages of the book, the young character emerged from the story, being granted human form. Thus, Jette Raynehell was born into a strange and wonderful land once more, yet...something was not right. The boy thought for a long moment before he realized what it was. He was not complete! Jette would never know an ending to his story unless he found Author. Grabbing the book from which he came, the boy left the cold, abandoned room and set off to find the ending to his story. But the world he entered was not one of perfection...

Mankind had lived in the shadow of ignorance for eons. With the birth of art, literature, and knowledge, a burst of culture coursed through the veins of society. Gone were the days of basic day-to-day living. In its place, bare shelves filled with the written word, idle hands created alchemy, and stagnant air now sounded with the bards' tales of epic heroes and adventure. As is so frequently the case however, harmony would not exist without discord. There are those who seek to manipulate invention and magic for their own twisted desires. Those who would take advantage of the weak and stifle their screams. The rulers who held power indefinitely during the age of ignorance have yet to fully embrace the ever-shifting world. They struggle to keep the people and their radical thoughts under control using fear and employing rash and sometimes brutal tactics. As such, several resistance factions have sprung up in the shadows of Mirus Parvulus. During times such as these, a hero emerges to put them down. A hero who possesses strength for those who have lost it. Surely now is the time for such a hero to make their appearance...or is that only in the stories?

Toggle Rules

Basic Rules (a.k.a. - the foundation of any successful roleplay)

I'll admit I can be rather particular about such things, but I'm also not THAT hard to please. Most of these rules should be obvious...

  • The obligatory "No God-modding" rule. 'Nuff said.
  • No "perfect" characters. Please be realistic here. If your character's an expert martial artist child prodigy mage with a doctorate in physics who flies around on a dragon with 1,000,000 HP, please go somewhere else. Leave this roleplay to us lesser characters. (See rule no. 1)
  • Do not assume control over anyone else's character without their permission. (See rule no. 1)
  • There's a decent chance your character will be involved in physical combat during the course of the story. That being said, if you are in an altercation with a character controlled by someone else, any attacks you perform should be written as attempts.

(Example: "Joe raised his sword and charged at Jane, swinging wildly.")

You'll wanna give Jane a chance to try and defend herself...or die on her own terms.

With THAT being said, please do not make your character invincible or able to skillfully dodge EVERY attack thrown at them. (See rule no. 1)
  • Please, please, PLEASE use proper grammar and try your best to make your entries free of spelling errors. I know it's easy to make mistakes while typing but if you have access to Roleplaygateway.com then you have access to Dictionary.com. I won't be able to take you seriously if you use the wrong "there."

That being said, feel free to mince words in accordance to your character's style of speech. So long as it's not completely unintelligible, it could add a unique layer to a character's personality.
  • I suppose this isn't COMPLETELY necessary but I would like this roleplay to have a rather serious tone. Not super depressing but still. In regards to character portraits, I ask that you refrain from using anime style pictures to represent your character. Save it for those silly, moe high school dramas that run rampant on this site. I will say that ANY picture is better than NO picture, however. I hate the look of a blank character portrait, y'know?

If you're having trouble finding the perfect picture, I find the following sites to be pretty decent...

    Epilogue.net
    Fantasygallery.net
    Deviantart.com

  • It's kinda common sense but I feel like I have to say it...Please do not commit to this roleplay if you won't be able to dedicate enough time to it - even if you THINK you may not be able to keep up with it. So please, if you're having drama in your life or are planning on having drama soon, think twice before jumping on board. And if you need to take a break from the roleplay for whatever reason, please LET ME KNOW. I love a little mystery as much as the next guy but when it comes to you going M.I.A., knowledge is power.
  • I don't have a problem with swearing, violence, gore, and/or sex. That being said, please be tactful when including it in your posts. If you wanna try and make sweet love to another character, that's fine. But if you find things are getting hot n' heavy, go take a cold shower and come back.
  • There's a fine line between "Omg, best plot twist ever" and "Wtf, that's bullshit!" If you're planning on doing something groundbreaking to the story that'll affect someone's character directly, maybe think about running it by them (or me) first. On that note, if there's anything you'd like to ask me or discuss regarding the plot or whatever, don't hesitate to send me a message.
  • I can't really think of anything else at the moment. I'm just gonna go ahead and trust y'all here. If you read the rules, let me know by including your favorite food at the bottom of your character sheet. kthxbai

Creating a Character

I'm sorry but I gotta say it...I'm going to be rather picky when it comes to choosing which characters to accept into this roleplay. When you send me a character application, the most important factors I'm gonna be looking at are a.) Is the character original and will they be able to contribute something useful to the storyline? And b.) Does the user have passable grammatical skills? Too many times I've seen a great story made totally lame because of someone who writes like they threw a dictionary into a blender. If I can't get a feel for your writing style based upon your character sheet alone, I may ask you to write a sample in a private message or something. ANYways, onto the character sheet!

Just copy and paste this onto the character application or whatever...

Name:
Race: (There's no list of acceptable races. Why don't you make me an offer?)
Age:
Gender:
Homeland: (I have a map of the world but it's mostly blank right now. Feel free to have me add something to it!)
Appearance:
Personality:
Talents/Skills: (swordplay, martial arts, alchemy, cooking, magic, keen eye for detail, memorization, deceit, etc.)
Weaknesses/Vices: (greed, drinking, physical combat, common sense, clumsiness, weak constitution, stubborn, etc.)
Likes/Dislikes:
Equipment: (weapons, armor, clothing, items of interest, etc.)
Miscellaneous: (anything not covered that should be known about this character.)
