Before the Legends....

Before the Legends....

0 INK

Once upon a time, in a far off land, there were group of warriors. This group did great things, and helped many people. They were a ragtag group though, a bit hectic and silly at times. But what is really important is the truth before the legend.

1,594 readers have visited Before the Legends.... since Mr. Baneling Squishy created it.

Introduction

(Behold, about a weeks worth of procrastinated working! So, some advance notices. Before you see any pictures, both real and Anime pics are allowed. Anyways, welcome aboard! (Hopefully!) Also, this RP will contain mature stuff, and will have violence, seriousness, humor, and adventure. I want thinks to be serious, but not too serious, and a bit humorous, but not overly humorous. If you are interested, please make it known by posting in the OOC so others can see it. People not seeing others interested is one of the main causes that RPs die before they start, because they wont bother to join something they don't think is going anywhere)

Welcome to Atmora, where magic has prospered over the normal technology of our world. Where multiple intelligent species at least try to co-exist. A world where Gunpowder was never discovered, though explosive powder is a different story. Where swords are seen instead of guns, and where the internet or Cell Phones never existed. Or phones in general for that matter, and where the TV was never invented (but the radio was). A world that while does not completely lack of technology, certainly does not have it like we do. A world filled with magic and monsters. And in this world, there are people known throughout the world as doers of great good, who slay forces of unspeakable evils. And these people are known as Legends.

The Legends are not just born. They are born, made, and refined. A Legend is a hero who has done something so great, he is considering to be of the highest standing. Legends are people who are loved, adored, feared, and hated. They come from all walks of life, and leave a trail of heroics and destruction in their past. Some say all Legends are imbued with Supernatural qualities in secret. Others say they are gods in mortal bodies, who can and will do whatever they please. They say these Legends are capable of cutting down an army single handed. And others suggest that Legends, at least these Legends, hold so much natural power their attacks can hold and release spirit magic within them.

Alright, so first of all lets get a few things clear. One, most if not all of these tales are exaggerations, fantasies, or made up by other loons. Well, probably. Most likely. You see, these Legends in fact came from all over the worlds. From rich castles to poor villages, they came from. They were sword wielders to Forgemasters to bow archers to magic users. Often, they were a combination of things. And this....this was the adventure that made them famous. When they all met in Duraal for the first time.

For similar quests will soon prove to be one long journey for all of them, into an adventure that will make their names, full of Dragons and Dark Wizards and Monsters and Demons. It will take you from snowy mountains to blistering deserts to snowy mountains to ancient ruins to dark swamps to bustling cities to snowy mountains and beyonds. No one is quite sure why badguys like snowy mountains, but Zabel is not a fan of places that are windy and cold. At all. He is a dragon, not an Ice Dragon Sunday.

The Young Dragon - Zabel - N/A - Race: Half(?) Dragon? - Swordsmaster and Dragonmage - Taken by me
Image
Story Excerpt: Zabel was roaming the city of Duraal to see the sites. He had heard that Duraal had some of the greatest culture, and the Young Dragon wanted to see it all. You see, Zabel was born human, but he has no memory of his parents. When he was two years old, his first memory was one of being found by the great Dragon Vrax. Vrax is Draconic for Tough One. Vrax took in the young boy, teaching him to speak, walk, talk, and fight. He gave him the name Zabel, which in Draconic means Young Dragon. He even bestowed upon him the Mark of the Dragon, granting him a vastly increased longevity to his life as well as great power, a gift not granted so casually as it makes someone a Dragon in essence. Only a handful of these people exist in the world. In fact, Vrax granted it to him because he saw Zabel as a son, teaching him Dragon Style Magic as well as granting him the natural skill of Dragon Sword Style. How or why Dragons invented a special type of sword style remains unknown, but it requires special Dragon reflexes, Dragon senses, and Dragon strength.

However, only a few years ago, three mysterious Dark Wizards came and attacks them. Vrax sacrificed himself to save Zabel, and Zabel believes to this day the Dark Wizards trapped Vrax and have him imprisoned somewhere, in part because of what his name meant. While he might look and act like he is ten, Zabel is actually much older. His Dragon Lifespan just makes him age at an incredibly slow rate. He maintains a human appearance, but at any moment he can summon Dragon Wings, a Dragon Tail, and Dragon claws on his body, or even transform into a Dragon for a period of time, depending on his stamina and mana levels.

And right now, he was chasing down a lead. Litterally, the guy ran as soon as he saw Zabel. Zabel could sense that he had Detection Magic set up to alert him of a threat to him. The bad news for him was that Zabel did not know what he looked like until now. And so, he chased after him. "Dragon Fire Wall!" he yelled, as a wall of blue fire erupted in front of him. The man turned around.

"That magic...this is Dragon Magic! You are a Dragon! You are the Young Dragon!" the man exclaimed, as he took out his sword. "I thought you were taller and older!"

"WHO ARE YOU CALLING SHORT?!?!?!" Zabel shouted, losing it. He hated it when people called him short. It did not help he was short. Blue dragon fire surrounded his whole body, before unleashing a large attack on him. "Dragon's Rage!"

After nearly charring the guy, Zabel picked them up, slammed him against a wall, then the stone ground, then a wall again, and then back into the stone ground. By the time we was finished, the man was barely awake...and alive. "Well damnit, I lost my temper again. Oh well, maybe he wont try to run or hold back information next time".

Species:

Human - Obv. (See culture thread for specific region details, may still be being updated)

Dragons - Special Request Needed, human versions only, requires major discussion to ensure proper balancing. Dragons can come from one of six clans, or be wild dragons. The Dragon is the Symbol used for the Patron Spirit of Children, because Dragons will never harm a child. They may eat their parents, their older siblings, their pets, their farm animals, burn down their homes, but never eat children. Though, Dragons actually usually hunt in the wild. The six clans are the Adidos (Mountain Clan), Shemara (Water Clan), Volis (Volcanic Clan), Eloran (The Forest Clan), Barro (The Desert Clan), and Orlee (The Snow Clan). Each clan has its own markings on their bodies, both the dragons and the humans, that represent their status, clan, and training style, as well as their name and . Now occasionally there are areas both clans inhabit. Zabel came from a forest area inhabited by the Eloran Clan, but was raised mostly in the mountainy parts, which were shaded with the Adidos clan. As a result, while he is a member of the Eloran Clan, he is also familiar with rocky terrain.

Demons - See Codex (if its up) for additional requested information, or to request it. Demons are powerful beings, but they are also even more oriented then Dragons. Demons have a clan for each emotion, sin, and feeling, such as notorious clans like Greed, Desire, and Despair, as well as clans known for their good members, like Happiness, Love, and the most well known of them all, Innocence. The Demon Clan of Innocence prefer to appear in the forms of human children, and believe in doing what they feel is right. They have no qualms about violence, but will avoid it if they deem it unnecessary. Each Demon Clan has their own markings that run along their entire body more often then not. Demons of a clan can have any variety of personalities and opinions, but usually in some way they are based around what their Clan is.

Elves - The pointy eared cousins of the humans, Elves trade the humans natural ability to learn things quicker then anyone else for increased speed, agility, and aim on the overall average, as well as being quicker. Additionally, while Elves do not have the physical strength of humans either, they have a better connection with nature, and can track better then a blood hound. Unless its a really great blood hound. Additionally, they also heal quicker then humans, live longer, and many are gifted with the innate magical ability to affect and control nature.

Halfbreeds - Those that run inbetween.

Other - Please provide a valid detailed description with extensive background so that people may use them in the future!

Some types of Classes/Subclasses, just to give you that warm and fuzzy RPG vibe. This is totally just to give you some ideas, and is not required at all to follow.

Warrior: Standard Warrior. Generally trained to be good with all weapons.
-Specialist: Specializes in a specific weapon.
-Arsenal: Carries a large variety of multiple weapons, to be used in any situation deemed to be the most practical.
-Generalist: Specializes in a specific type of weapon, which they have multiples of.
-Knight: A Warrior who wields large weapons and armor into battle.

Archer: Standard Archer. Trained to be good with all bows.
-Crossbow User: Archer but with crossbows. Crossbows are more powerful but take longer to prep each shot due to reloading.
-THe Longshot: An Archer who is trained in Medium to Long range combat, and knows how to target the extra damaging spots.
-The Ranger: An Archer who is trained in CQC to medium range combat with great stealth ability.

Rogue: Standard Rogue. Focuses on CQC and short range combat.
-Thief: Better at breaking in and being stealthy then actual combat.
-Assassin: Combat, Poisons, Throwing weapons. This guy (or girl) knows all about them...as well as setting traps.
-Bard?: Oh, I am sure someone can and probably will make use of this. After all, we need someone to yell at to play battle music for us! Oh, and bards are great spies.

Magic User: No Standard Exists.
-Wizards are the first type of Spellcasters, and the most common. They are not THAT common, but they are the most common. Magic is just rare enough to be a gift, but just common enough that you can expect one or two people in a small village to develop the gift. They do not require summoning Spellcircles in your hands or charging up energy, but all Wizard Spells require a verbal component and a talisman to focus it, like a wand or a spellbook. Wizard's are as powerful as their focus, and their ability to focus.
-Sorcerers are the second type of spellcaster, and a bit more rare. They do not need to use verbal commands for all their spells, but rather they just can charge them up in their hands before casting. The more experienced they are, the faster they can charge, especially if they find an Optimal Charging Method. ANd the more they charge it up, the better the spell. And while they charge faster normally while standing still, they can still charge on the move. They are as powerful as their willpower and endurance.
-Mages are the third type, and are also a bit more rare. They do not need vocal commands, or a talisman, or charging. They project spell circles from their body and the spell will emerge from them exactly 1.2 seconds after its been formed in magical energy. They can be moved at the Mage's will. They are as powerful as their willpower and endurance.

Alright, I suppose I will finally move into character sheets. I kinda wanted to make some sort of uber fancy character sheet, but It took me about a week of on and off work to make this and I figure people will have their own ideas. But listen up! You gotta make your character sheets super detailed and awesome! And they must include a story excerpt for the intro page, so that I can make sure you got what it takes! You should know what else would be required in a character sheet.

Oh, and to spice things up, fanciest character sheet gets...gets...uhhhh....Respect Points, redeemable at any RespectMart. And those totally exist. Totally not an empty prize. :3 Oh, you also get bragging rights, so now you know its a real prize!

Toggle Rules

The Rules are reasonable. Be reasonable, don't be an ass, work together, and have fun. Example of being reasonable: Saying your character is naked is okay, going into specific details about their stuff or of a sexual romantic encounter is not. Take that stuff to private please and thank you. Should give you the general idea now, and I hope to not have any issues and to keep this going on for the long haul!

Goma walked into the city of Duraal completely stunned with its architecture. It was a city bustling with life, excitement, and people. Goma rubbed his wrists, as to him he still felt where the shackles once existed. It reminded him to be careful. They say anything can be bought, sold, and acquired in Duraal, and he bet that included slaves. Goma knew he could not afford to allow anyone to recognize him first. If he was to find this trio of Dark Wizards, he knew who he had to find first. The Young Dragon is what he was known by. Apparently, he was some sort of human half-dragon thing, with some serious sword knowledge and magic.

Goma hoped he could find this Young Dragon, and learn everything he could about this Trio of Dark Wizards behind the enslavement of hundreds. He looked down, and realized his clothes were tattered. He would need to get new ones. That should be his first priority, after all. He wanted to make a good impression for when he met the Young Dragon for the first time. His pet, Ilya the Trunger, a small animal that likes to tunnel through ground and fly though the air, found either in mountains or in caves underground.

From what he had heard, the Young Dragon took out like, fourty slavers while naked, on purposefully letting them take him and enslave him so that he would be taken straight to the boss on their own accord. Once they were in the same room, apparently he killed each and every slaver there, and freed everyone. Another story says on how he destroyed an entire Dark Magic Guild after learning they did business with the magical trio, searching the remains for three days for any information on them. And then, there was the rumor that he took on a Holy Knight who mistook him for a demon, and won. "Ilya, when we find this guy, he is going to be so badass it will be amazing! I mean, can you imagine him? AN ultimate hero, capable of destroying anything in his path! He will totally be able to help us!"

As they walked down a road, he looked in a window. He still could not get over his new hair color. Seriously, why did magic turn his hair blue. Although, he did have to admit, it did look really cool now that he thought about it. And how did it stay so spikey? Was that magic too?

He turned and continued down the street. He had to focus, he had to find the Young Dragon and get his information, and maybe even his help! "Oh yeah, it would be so cool to team up with this guy! I heard he once destroyed an entire Coven, and their base, in a single night! And they had zombies and everything! You ready Ilya?"

Ilya gave a squeak of joy and understanding. Goma was sure he was the smartest Trunger ever. Like, the smartiest smartest Trunger. Goma never really did learn anything while underground, so his speech and other intellectual based stuff was on the low side. Actually, he could only read and write in Runic, because the magic he absorbed gave him that knowledge. But seeing as how Runic was only used by ancient, magical civilizations, it was completely and utterly useless in reading signs. Which meant, he had no idea what the signs were saying. Though, he assumed the one with a sword and a shield was a forge.

Still, he had to find the Young Dragon. He had to focus. He had to.... "Oh wow, that fish smells delicious!"

This was going to take him awhile.

(Not my best intro post, but I am sick and need to focus on finals so this was the best I could do)

Zabel was so happy today. Normally, he would work the whole time, but Vrax would tan his hide if he did not celebrate and have fun every so often. And the Festival of Crowning was one of the greatest festivals of all times. Still, Zabel should probably keep an eye out. After all, more then a few people had put a bounty on his head, and many people would likely want to collect it. Well, people who believed they actually had a chance of success. Many mercs and bounty hunters were smart enough not to come after him, but stupid people could still be dangerous.

Pipap flew onto his head. "You know, I gotta say its pretty ironic, calling you the young Dragon when you are actually older then most humans. How old are you again, like sixty?"

Pipap was a young beast dragon he had been chosen to squire. He was a crafty fun loving sort, but his heart was in the right place and his magic strong. Also a bit pestering at times, but he was young. He would learn. Dragons age slowly, but they also mature slowly. Which is probably why Dragons learn to be so patient. How else could they put up with their young?

"Yeah yeah. Well, that is still pretty young for dragons" Zabel mentioned. A Dragon's total lifespan is hard to predict, but some believe they can live well over one thousand years old. Zabel took some food, and continued enjoying the music and dancing. "Unfortunately, it seems like we may be interrupted".

"So you noticed then the assassin tailing us?" Pipap replied. "For a moment I thought you were getting soft".

Zabel scoffed. "Keep dreaming, hatchling".

"So what are we going to do about it?"

"I say, let the festival keep going! And deal with him when he finally decides to strike" Zabel told him, as they continued to enjoy the music. Of course they had no idea just what they were about to get into today.

"He's a child."
"Looks can be deceiving."
"I've killed children before."
"He's not a child."
"He looks like a child."
"Well, not all things that quack are ducks."
"I don't have time for your riddles, Simon. If I wanted your apothegms I'd bloody ask for them."
"...it wasn't really an apothegm."
"You're an ideograph."
"...I'm not sure you're using that word correctly. It's a malapropism."
Elysabeth narrowed her eyes. She leaned over the little wooden table, pointed elbow stuck between slats with enough force to make it groan, letting Simon know it wasn't sufficient cover. Not much was, when dealing with an elf-woman scorned. Regardless, he sat, passive and not paying attention. His eyes were over her shoulder, and his mind far from the festival. "You're staring at the hassassin."
"I'm not convinced he's a hassassin, Elysabeth."
"He has a garrote in his sleeve and a ceremonial knife on his belt. I've killed many of his kind, before and after entering your employment." Elysabeth lowered herself back into her seat and crossed her arms. "And I recognize his accent."
"...doesn't look terribly much like a hassassin."
"What did you say about ducks and quacking?"
"That's different. I was talking about the dragon-boy."
"He doesn't look like a dragon."
"Yes, Elysabeth. You've made that very clear."
Simon finally turned his eyes to her. She had her hair pulled into a tight ponytail, the only effeminate feature on her body. Mud coated her boots and shins, and there were still a few specks of bled on her stomach and fists. He, on the other hand, wore a simple wrap-shirt tucked into coarse pants sinched by a leather belt. He wore animal-hide shoes and a careful haircut. He'd even shaved. First impressions were important.
The arcanist smiled and scratched his bare chin. The faintest twinge of sadness was felt with the loss of his beloved facial hair. She narrowed her eyes again and bared her teeth. "I don't like when you stare at me."
"I can go back to looking at the hassassin."
"No you can't. He crossed the street and entered that bakery." She gestured with a twitch of her eyes. He nonchalantly twisted and turned to look. "I just said you can't. No window."
"...what's behind the bakery?"
"An alley. I think it's one-way. There's... a..." She looked for the name, failed, and settled: "Building. At the end. One exit."
"I think we should go introduce ourselves."
"You said no more fighting today." Elysabeth tried to sound disappointed, but she was out of her seat and halfway there before he could reply.

It was a simple, if risky, play: Simon entered through the front door, stood a safe distance from the suspected hassassin, and made some accusatory remarks. The hassassin, not wanting to draw attention to himself before killing his target, would try to escape through the back door. Elysabeth would be waiting on the other side of that door to punch him into a hospital bed, if need be.
Fortunately, need was not be; she caught him in the temple with her elbow and knocked him to the cobblestone ground. She pinned him with a metal boot-heel to his shoulder and pointed her sword at his face. Simon came around, clicking his tongue and berating the hassassin for running instead of feigning evidence. "I'm quite the gullible man, Mr. Hassassin. You could have said 'Sorry, you have me mistaken,' and we wouldn't be having this conversation."
Simon rifled through pockets, sleeves, and trousers. There was, as Elysabeth said, a cord garrote tucked into the folds of his left shirt-sleeve, and a dagger that appeared to be incredibly fragile because of its chipped design, which was intentionally hammered in to cause more jagged wounds and hold poison.
"No, no, stop struggling. Seriously. She just has to lean forward, and you have a hundred-and-ten pounds precisely placed to separate your pectoral girdle." He stole the man's shoes. "See, I'm a physician. I once took an oath, saying I'd never use my knowledge to harm my common man. I taught her everything I know about how to break a body, and the only oath she's ever taken is to do exactly that to anyone who would otherwise threaten me. So stop struggling and answer some questions, or she'll demonstrate how easy it is to detach your radius from your ulna." Simon reached out and grabbed the man around the wrist, then touched the bones in turn.

Unfortunately, the hassassin didn't speak the same language Simon did, and while he easily could have repeated his message in a dialect a few steps removed from sharing the same tongue, it was easier to let Elysabeth break his maxilla after a sufficiently incriminating writ was found in his pocket. "...so he was a hassassin."
"I told you." Elysabeth stuck the garrote in her pouch. She turned the knife over, removed it from its sheathe, shrugged, and tossed it aside. "I've seen sharper rocks."
"I think we should go see the dragon boy."
"Only if I get to fight something bigger than..." She gestured to the unconscious hassassin, whose body was in a race to see whether it would die of blood loss or asphyxiation first, like it sufficiently made her point. Then she decided better, appending a fitting expletive title. "So, are we going?"
"Yes." Simon stood, dusted himself off, and started walking. Elysabeth fell in step beside him. "Now we just have to find him again."
"He's right over there." Her ability to spot a child in a crowd never ceased to amaze Simon. He looked carefully to see what she was pointing at, then asked that she lower her arm and stop being so suspicious. "Maybe we should wait a minute. He looks like he's having fun."
"I'm not paid to stand around."
"No, I suppose you aren't. Still, it's a big crowd." Simon had to stop her from drawing a sword. "No no, I wasn't asking for you to make it smaller."
