a character in “Brothers”, as played by steelrain0208

Description

Physical Description- The tallest of the three Winchester siblings John comes in at 6'5. He has thin muscular body that comes from working on a farm his whole life. His has thick black hair but often times it is not visible instead from being coated in sweat and dirt. When he was kid they said his brown eyes were soft and kind but after Mary’s death that changed. Now his eyes are now cold and hard.

Personality- John has always been quick to temper a trait he inherited from his father. He has an unshakable belief in God and would consider himself a Baptist. John is also the most stubborn of the Winchesters. As a little boy Teller his older brother would call him the "little tornado" because when their mother didn't give into his demands John would run around the house destroying things. This only ended one of two ways his mother was able to calm him down or his father would knock some sense into him. John has a strong sense of duty to three things his Country, family and God.

Abilities- John is a farmer and while he knows how to fight and shoot a gun he is not expertly trained however his inherit stubbornness makes it harder for him to quit when he should.

History- Born into a Georgia farming family in 1845. John’s parents were Michael and Ruby Winchester. John had two siblings his older brother by 16 years Teller and his younger sister Jo. John's father was a drunk although a functioning one for half his life. By the time John reached 10 years old that had changed. His father fell deeper into his alcoholism and was unable to keep the farm running. Therefor it fell on Teller to run the family farm, which any blind man could see he hated and when Michael finally died Teller took off and left John in charge of the farm. John did so without complaint although this placed a wall between the two. Unlike Teller John refused to fight for the Southern cause during the War. To any interested party that would ask why he wasn’t joining he would say “Hell we are barely making ends meet as it is if I leave the farm we will go bankrupt. We don’t even have the money for one house nigger” or some version of this. In truth John disagreed with the Southern cause and he loved his country the United States of America. If it hadn't of been for his mother and sister he would of ran off with some of the coloreds and joined the Union army.
A year after the war Ruby and Jo caught a cough. The war had left Georgia in short supply of many great things but most importantly doctors. Within a month both had passed. John took to the bottle in order to cope. As many other men have. If it hadn't been for the bottle John would have never meant Mary. Mary first saw John laying face first in the mud just outside a bar he had just been thrown out of. Mary was on her way back from Church with her brother Isaac. John barely concision when Mary approached him but still managed to lift his face from the mud and look at her. He thought he died and angel was standing before him ready to take him. So when the angel asked where he lived he happily replied believing he finally see his mother and sister again.
Mary on the other hand saw a drunken fool barely conscious lying in horse shit. She wasn't going to help him at first she just wanted to make he was alive. It wasn't until John looked up at her that she saw in his eyes the nine kinds of pain he was in. In that moment she decided to help him so she and Isaac helped him up back to his him home. Managing to get John home proved to be a little challenging as John kept mumbling about an angel but eventually Mary got the address from him. Mary cleaned John up and looked after him that night by morning Mary had left. Over the next few months Mary came to visit John to see how he was doing. Each time Mary came they got to know each other a little better. A friendship developed between the two and as it did John began to heal from the loss of his mother and sister. So he drank less and the farm improved and began showing a profit. Eventually John and Mary married. Within a few months of the wedding Teller John’s older brother came back.

So begins...

The air was stale in the tiny, one room cabin. The wood stove in the corner lay dormant as the sun still hung in the sky, not yet hiding from the world, casting it in darkness and the cold of night. The Arizona sun warmed the dusty ground outside and the old, sun baked wood of the cabin that sheltered the two men, once brothers close as any. The cabin smelled of fresh coffee, brewed only moments before the younger brother had arrived. Tell had been waiting for him. He'd grown tired of the game they'd been playing for the past few years. Tired of running, tired of hiding, he was just tired. One way or the other these two men were going to find the end of the road to the journey they'd set on.

Tell's face was clouded in a billowing puff of smoke from his cigar as his eyes, piercing and blue as glacial ice peered through the haze at his brother sitting across the table from him. Tell's fingers of his left hand fiddled with the metal handle of the mug his piping hot coffee was in, fresh steam rising off the drink warning of the heat within. Tell blew out a puff of smoke before he raised the cup to his lips, savoring the warmth of the strong black coffee. He set it back down, his brothers wrathful gaze ever on him. The rage in his eyes, the pain and fury seemed to almost amuse Tell who nearly smirked as he set his drink down and puffed once again on his cigar. He couldn't remember the last time he'd been this close to John. To see him now he barely recognized him. He seemed older somehow, grizzled. Like a bear he'd last seen as a cub, now a lumbering male brimming with teeth and savage strength.

The gun between them was their fathers. The Colt, single action Army sat between them. Tell remembered vividly the time his father had slapped him with the barrel of the gun after he'd smart mouthed him. The stinging pain was not something easily forgotten, even after all these years. The fact that John was carrying it now, and brought it here for this was almost poetic.

"Well?..."

Tell said through a cloud of cigar smoke.

"Somethin you want to say, best get on with it."
