Introduction
[PREMISE]
Somnia, the Goddess of Somnus, weakened severely by the death of Yggrasil, poured the last of her power into raising a barrier that stopped the spread of the corruption, before entering into a deep slumber. The barrier contained the miasma, as well as trapping in the worst of the Obscuri. However, this was not without losses. The Kingdom of Ellaria, home of the Jumi, was nearly entirely destroyed, the miasma having swallowed half of the kingdom before the barrier was cast.
Furthermore, Despite the barrier, the less powerful Obscuri are still able to break through the barrier and wreak havoc. This was how the remainder of the Jumi Kingdom was destroyed. With each obscuri that passes through the border, the barrier weakens, allowing more powerful obscuri to pass through. The barrier will not last forever.
But there is hope. Prophecy states that the Champions of Somnia will find the lifeseed, as well as the Seven Great Mana Spirits, in order to restore Yggdrasil and awaken the goddess Somnia, who will give them the ability to ultimately banish the Obscuri from Somnus.
MAP OF SOMNUS: I do not have enough posts to post links, and the map is to big to fit in the page with an image tag, so I'll post the raw link here - http://imgur.com/DD4YzDS
[center][NOTES]
Mana is created by the Yggdrasil, and flows through the aether in the same way that pollen floats from trees through the wind. Natural occurrences happen through mana. The trees use mana to make air, the sun rises and sets thanks to the existences of mana. The ebb and flow of the ocean is all controlled by mana. After the destruction of Yggdrasil, the world was left with just enough mana to continue existing without falling apart entirely. However it was not enough to allow the use of magic by the people of Somnus.(Magic)
Aether is the medium on which mana, and aura exist. It is often referred to as the will of the universe. When a person uses magic, they are forcing their will upon the aether in order to manipulate the flow of mana in ways that can manifest themselves in spectacular ways. The stronger a person's will, the bigger and stronger their abilities are.
Aside from magic, there is another set of powerful skills known simply as "abilities". Both work in similar, yet distinct fashions. Where magic works by imposing your will on the aether to manipulate an outside force (mana), Abilities work by imposing your will on the aether to manipulate an inside force, known as Aura. Aura is a manifestation of the soul of every living thing. If it were visible, it would look like a flame. The stronger the person's will is, the brighter, larger, and more intense the flame. With training, one can learn to manipulate their aura with the aether as well. Just as one can fan flames to make them grow stronger, one can use the aether to fan the flame of their aura, in order to perform superhuman actions. Examples of these would be increasing your strength, or allowing yourself to perform feats such as walking on water, jumping incredible heights, performing normally impossible weapon techniques, extending the range of blows and strikes, augmenting the power of ranged weapons, etc.
Below I have provided a few examples of playable races, however your choices are in no way limited to this.
Humans: Humans. I'm fairly certain you know what this looks like.
Faerie: The only race still able to fully utilize mana. Unplayable race. Can turn invisible to the eyes of those they do not want seeing them. Despite their ability to use mana after the death of Yggdrasil, they chose to seclude themselves deep in their forest, rather than provide aid to the outside world.
Merfolk: Aquatic creatures, notable characteristics are their gills, the location of which varies, normally on the neck, or cheeks. They have webbed feet and hands and blue skin.
Stonefolk: Large sturdy humanoids. They are very strong and resistant to damage. Not too smart however. They are capable of manipulating a special kind of stone known as soul stones, which they carve out in ways that best suit their individual tastes and styles. Their skin is grey as stone, and their hair only grows in shades of grey. They do not float well in water.
Avian: Bird humanoids. Their faces are mostly humanoid except for the fact that they are normally framed by small, downy feathers. They do not grow hair, instead, they grow longer, thicker feathers. They have feathers growing from their forearms that allow them to glide, as well as sharp, talon like feet and hands.
Kraal: Reptilian humanoids. various shapes and sizes, non-draconic.
Jumi: Nearly extinct. They are indistinguishable from humans aside from the fist sized crystal exposed on the center of their chests. This crystal serves as their hearts, and they cannot die unless this crystal is removed or destroyed. Despite the lack of mana, they are able to perform magic related to the properties of their crystal. The Jumi were nearly entirely wiped out two hundred years ago by the arrival of the miasma. After that, which magic and magical materials becoming so scarce, they were hunted down by particularly greedy spell casters, as the Jumi heart crystals were particularly valuable as ingredients for magical items. Hence they are very scarce and distrustful by nature.
Beastfolk: Species of anthropomorphic animal species all species fit under beast folk, even if they call themselves by another name (Example- Kraal, Avian).
In the event of an unexcused absence of over a week the gm will bunny your character (Control it's actions) after three absences your character will be removed from the storyline in the most appropriate way.
