Amber Stilmyst

Human girl.

0 · 1,148 views · located in Carnes High

a character in “Carnes High: Monster School”, as played by Crystal Flamedance

Description

Amber is thin, yet somewhat athletic. She has waist-long bright red hair, and green eyes, and is about average height. She usually wears jeans and tank tops, and usually darker colors.

Personality

She usually keeps to herself, especially around others that aren't human, unless approached first. She can be defensive, quick to take offense, and quick to turn some of the most innocent statements into something mean. However, that's mostly just her "defense system" around strangers. She can be very talkative, and smiles often around friends. She is quick to trust some people as a friend, though sometimes too quick, though other times she will remain stubborn about someone. She has always much preferred the company of her pets to others, which is the easiest way to get her trust; anyone that can talk about pets for a long enough period is a friend to her. Despite wearing dark colors so often, she's really a much lighter person; she enjoys being outside, in the sun, preferably in the middle of some field, looking over flowers. And writing, always writing. She considers herself a writer, and will write often about nearly everything she sees, practicing descriptions. She can be very easily frightened (though that is usually hidden by her "defense system," often being mean and hoping it will go away), and is a little claustrophobic, and has a serious case of arachniphobia.

She no longer spends time practicing descriptions; rather, she had turned the notebook into something of a journal, keeping track of everything that has been going on around her. She has become much more open, too, and more willing to discuss things with others. She is more than willing to help others out, even if that means getting hurt herself. However, she would not give up another chance to see Aiden, who she is very close to.

Equipment

The only things she always carries around with her are a notebook, and a few pencils, usually carried around in her arms.

She has since started carrying her notebook around less, and now only takes it when she believes there will actually be something interesting happening. Also, Algernon, the spirit that Adelle gave her for Christmas, will often hang around, usually hanging around her shoulders, or above her head.

History

She grew up in a relatively small family; only herself, her parents, and older brother. She has always kept herself out of trouble, and away from a lot of people. She has become used to her older brother being overprotective, even to the point of following along whenever she went to hang out with her friends, even when he knew them well. Because of this, she usually hides behind her brother whenever something goes wrong, so she's not so sure what she's going to do at Carnes without him. She hadn't realized at first she was being sent to a demon school, and wasn't too fond of the idea. But she figured that, as long as she was there, she may as well get used to it. Now she only wonders how she'll manage to survive the year without being eaten, or killed, or something.

Soon after arriving at the school, she made a handful of friends, the closest of which was Aiden, who was pulled from school by his father very soon after discovering that she had some sort of control over Aiden's beast. Though she has lately had to put up with feeling like the awkward third wheel, she still tries to hang around with the rest of her friends at the school. She has recently started to allow Shad to drink her blood every now and then, and is starting to learn to ignore the light-headedness the loss of blood causes. She made a wish at the wishing spring that gave her an ability to see the true forms of monsters, even while they are in their human forms.

So begins...

Amber glanced at Kalen, and hesitated. "...I kind of want to...but I won't go anywhere near him..." She shook her head. It was safer if she stayed there, as far from him as possible. Yes...it was much safer there. She was going to try to keep herself from being attacked again. Staying there was safe enough. She'd go and get her stuff later, and then find somewhere else to hide. She hadn't ever really tried to hide from anyone, let alone a vampire, but that had bothered her, scared her more than she would admit.

Amber shook her head. That was right; human representative. ...Why? Wasn't she the only human in the school? Well...aside from the one that was now dead...and being controlled by something else. She tried to ignore that part, glancing back at the werewolf, then away. It was only self-defense, from the sounds of it...but she couldn't be sure. This demon business was messing with her head a bit. She had never thought they even existed. ...And then to get bitten. She shook her head again. She turned her attention to the floor, not really looking up, but paying enough attention to listen to whatever they were saying.

Amber paused, but nodded, heading out of the room. She paused shortly outside, though, and glanced back at Kalen. "...I get lost easy, though..." she admitted, quietly. Much as she would have liked to start heading there, whether she followed or not, she was not going to be leading the way. She waited patiently for her; she had only said to help, not do it by herself, anyway, so she would come along then...right? Hopefully these demons weren't too different from what she was used to.

Amber paused, but nodded. "I have enough experience, I guess..." she mumbled. A few years of choir was all she needed to know how to manage that. She almost felt like she was back in choir, but shrugged it off. She plugged the cords into the podium, and looked around for the sound board. She hurried over to it, only glancing at Desmond as he entered.

Amber waited until she was sure the others were gone before putting the cords back where she had gotten them from...and everything else, too. She wasn't entirely sure what she was supposed to do now; wander around lost until she found her next class? Or were they not going to clsses because of the hunters? It seemed odd that these monsters would end up worrying about anything that seemed human...but what did she know? Maybe there really was something dangerous to them. ...Were they possibly dangerous to her, too? Too many questions for her. She didn't like not knowing anything. Not knowing this was a school of onsters was one thing...but not knowing how dnagerous the hunters might be was different. Because she did have an idea of what they might be capable of. They had all thought he was a human student, though. So maybe there was supposed to be another human student, too? Another question...this was going to get annoying. She shook her head, heading back out to the classroom she had left her stuff in. At the very least, she needed her notebook to distract herself.

Amber decided against sitting in the classroom, choosing instead to find some isolated part of the building. She wasn't sure how many of the monsters in this place would actually listen to what...what was his name? She still hadn't gotten that much...or didn't remember that much, anyway. but if they didn't agree with what he had said about her not being a hunter; she didn't even know they had existed before coming to this school, let alone anything about the hunters. She paused when she noticed she was hearing something...but it didn't quite sound normal for a school. ...But who knew what was normal in this school? Still, she moved closer to investigate, but pulled back when she realized there was a fight going on. She peeked back out, trying to see who was out there. The one that had pulled the vampire away...the vampire...the one that had talked about getting rid of humans...the one that was actually nice to her and was her roommate...the girl from the room she had been called to earlier...and then others she didn't know. So what was she supposed to do? She certainly couldn't fight...so that left her with watching, and hoping nothing went too wrong. Though, if she saw a way she might help, she debated jumping in.

Amber hesitated as the other human and her roommate were puhed towards her by...who knew what. She poked her head back out, watching them. It looked like it was about done. She closed her eyes to try to listen more carefully, to hear what they were talking about. She shook her head, opening her eyes again; she was too busy to really hear properly. She was glancing around, too, to see if there was anyone else there that might be a hunter. ...Not that she knew what to look for. She only knew he hadn't even gotten through her first day without problems. Though only one of them had concerned her directly. She wondered briefly why she hadn't seen the fangs before; but then, why hadn't she seen the others the way they had been? Clearly she had a lot to learn about these creatures. Maybe she'd be able to get along with them better if she knew more. She turned to the two that had been flung in her direction, checking to make sure they were okay.

Amber watched those that were injured heading to the nurses office, and shrugged. She hadn't gotten into the fight, and so hadn't managed to get herself hurt. But she probably still had to attend her classes for the day. While she didn't feel like it, she would have to go to the classes, anyway. She needed the good grades to show her parents. They could be strict. With a sigh, she tries again to navigate through the halls to the rest of her classes.

Amber didn't much like trying to find an empty hall at night anymore; it seemed those two hadn't been the only one that could change their forms. ...Though it was only slightly; she had still been able to recognize them, at least. Though she was probably going to manage to get herself lost trying to find her own dorm. She tried to keep herself small, hiding as best as she could. Maybe she could go unnoticed for a while, or at the very least, ignored. That was the best she could hope for in this school. That, and that she wouldn't find herself being attacked and killed quickly. She hadn't realized there would be so much...fighting. Perhaps their school rules were different than human school rules? She glanced down at her paper, looking for her dorm number, and then glanced around, heading down any random hall she thought she hadn't been down yet; maybe she'd find the dorm faster that way.

Amber wandered the halls, looking for her dorm, but paused, sniffing. What was that smell? Fire...and possibly cooking. How had she managed to find herself close to the kitchens? ...But she hadn't eaten since breakfast that morning, and even then she hadn't eaten much. She was too busy rushing through her meal so she wouldn't be late for school. Hopefully there would be something for her to eat; she wasn't sure whether or not monsters ate anything close to what she usually ate. She poked her head in just long enough to register that the food, for the most part, did not seem edible. She sighed before walking in, only glancing over the food there. Even up close, nothing seemed edible. So maybe these creatures did not eat the same foods that humans did. ...But, if she wasn't going to try eating this stuff, she was only going to starve. But, the fact was, she was scared to even try some of the foods there. Glowing jello...raw meat...live worms...hardly appetizing.

Amber paused, glancing around when she heard someone yelling, and, oddly enough, found one of them looking at her. She hadn't been called Amy before...but she assumed he was talking to her. She sighed and approached him and whoever else was with him; she had no way of knowing what the other was, but she already knew the one yelling was a werewolf, at least. She wasn't one for yelling; she preferred to move close enough she could talk normally rather than yelling and screaming. "I've just...never seen these foods before. Well, I've seen raw meats...but they usually get cooked sooner or later..." So this was normal for them. Just wonderful. She pused for a second. "And I'd rather not be called Amy, alright?" So maybe arguing with a monster wasn't the best idea; she had survived her first day, and that was enough for her.

Amber paused, debating. She wasn't entirely sure she wanted to deal with putting out the flames herself...but it was something edible. She nodded. "I suppose, if that's possible, it would be preferable to...everything else..." She glanced back at the food, then back to Aiden. "That would be nice," she added with a little smile. At least there was one monster she knew for sure wasn't going to attack her. ...Or two, really, if she thought back to the girl that hadn't seemed to mind her too much. One of her roommates, if she remembered correctly. She shook those thoughts off; she was likely to make herself look like she was thinking too hard if she kept that up.

Amber shrugged. "I haven't eaten much all day; hardly ate breakfast, and spent lunch trying to explore the building." A futile attempt to prevent herself from getting lost. She paused, a hand automatically going up to where she had been bit. "...Losing blood doesn't help that much, either." She glanced at Jamie. So there was another human student there. Someone else that might understand how strange this all was. She shook her head, looking back at the burning chunk of meat. Not her favorite option, but the best from the current ones. "That, and I don't usually sleep much. I've always stayed up a little late; usually to work on homework or cleaning or something like that." She shrugged. From the looks of it, night usually meant fights at this school. Something she would have to try to avoid.

Amber shook her head. "I imagine your day went about as bad as ours." She remembered that he had been attacked earlier. That didn't exactly seem like an ideal day to her. She paused, thinking for a minute. "...As far as a game plan...the only thing I've got is to stay as far away from anyone I don't know as possible. I only need to keep to myself; to try to not give anyone a reason to go after me." To try to make herself invisible, because that was all she could do, considering there was no way she'd be able to fight them off on her own. What else could she do?

Amber waited until she figured it was cooked enough, and debated how to put the fire out. Something she should have thought of earlier. She settled for pulling it into smaller pieces with silverware and blowing it out after they were in smaller pieces. She was listening, though. "...But you're not going to...change into your wolf form in front of us?" she guessed. "Or do you just not change into a wolf in front of anyone?" She wouldn't mind...but maybe the other human would...or he himself would. She couldn't make too many assumptions, after all.

Amber shook her head. "Can't be as unnerving as being bitten by a vampire. Besides, it isn't like the natural films I watch sometimes don't already show me what wild animals look like when they're eating. Nothing new here. ...Can't speak for him, of course," she added, nodding towards Jamie. "But I don't think it matters too much; we're going to have to get used to weird and unsettling, anyway, going to this school." A lot easier said than done, she knew, but it had to be done. Especially if she was going to be seeing these demons running around at night.

Amber shrugged. "Yeah, I was. I don't think I have the marks, though...my wound was magically healed." She hadn't really wanted to focus too much on the transformation, and didn't mind the distraction, though she watched from the corner of her eye. Curiosity sort of got in her way of not wanting to see. She looked back as he started eating, and started on her food, too. The wagging tail reminded her more of a puppy than a wolf...though that may have been because every time she had seen a wolf, the tails had been rather limp, unlike her dogs at home; whose tails never seemed to stop wagging...ever. But she was distracting herself now. She smiled slightly. That smile disappeared, though, when he suddenly barked and jumped over the table. She turned to look, and saw the cat heading towards them. No wonder he had jumped so suddenly! She got up and backed away a step, to keep herself from getting into whatever fight was coming. "This doesn't look good..."

Amber watched them, thinking quickly. There was nothing she could do to help. She was only human; she had no powers. What was she supposed to do, then? Just stand and watch? She paused, glancing at her spiral, and had an idea. At least, she hoped it would work. She grabbed her spiral quickly, fumbling slightly as she tried to pull the strange tube from the spiral itself. Eventually, though, it did come out, and she looked back up as she heard something like a hiss...but somethign else mixed with it. She watched, somewhat entranced by the circling. The cat pouncing, though, brought her back to relaity, and she dropped the tube, letting it crash onto the floor, wondering what exactly it was supposed to do.

Amber hesitated, a little unsure, but nodded. "Yeah...at least, I think he's worse off right now," she said, gesturing to Jamie. "...But I think it's only...umm, startled him a little." She didn't want to make it sound like she thought he was scared; some people, she knew, didn't like that. "Caught us off-guard, is all. More shaken up than harmed," she added, trying to be a little reassuring...not exactly easy for her when he didn't look human or wolf, exactly. "But you were actually hurt; are you okay?"

Amber paused, but didn't ask about it. She didn't like the limp, but he was still walking, so that was one good thing. She glanced back at Desmond, who had appeared when she had dropped the tube. If she had known it was going to summon him, she wouldn't have dropped it; he was tired enough from before, she was sure. She glanced at the witch; her roommate...and she was glad for that one. Her other roommate did not seem to like her too much...and she wasn't entirely sure if it was just the three of them, or if there was another. She shook that thought off, and looked back at the leopard, only barely noticing that the wolf had sat himself next to her. She hid a grin; definitely more like a puppy than a wolf, she thought. "At leats there's more than one willing to try to help us," she mumbled. Try, because, even with the numbers they had to help them, they were still outnumbered.
