Kat usually demonstrates her ability by creating a small fire from her fingertips or in the palm of her hand, she may also be able to create fireballs or directed streams of flame with a little more practice.
Kat doesn't necessarily have to make flames, she can make her skin hot to the touch, which was actually the way she discovered her ability when she was attacked by group of looters.
She is not hurt by the fire she creates, and she seems to be resistant to flames or heat that she did not create herself.

With Kat, there is always something more than what meets the eye. Even though everything about her screams vulnerability, don't let that fool you. Kat is easy going, but has short temper underneath the calm surface; and should some poor souls attempt to provoke her, she will strike back with full force. She is not one to hold a grudge though. She easily forgives, forgets and moves on. Kat is filled with contradictions. She want security and comfort yet seeks new adventures. She can be impulsive and reckless sometimes, because she will jump at a suggestion of something new before she weighs the advantages and disadvantages.
She never gives up. Kat is determined to reach her goal no matter what, and she is able to re-survey a situation and take a different approach if necessary. This makes her very adaptable and versatile. Kat's stubborn streak is what gives her independence. Freedom is so important to Kat that she will actually make decisions based on the amount of freedom that is given by the choice she had made. As a result, sometimes a good opportunity is turned down because of it's high commitment need, but this is her choice and she like to do things her way. Kat treats others the way she wants to be treated and lives life based on a 'live and let live' policy. Since she doesn't like to interfere with other people's plans, this makes Kat so agreeable with others.
She is and excellent conversationalists with a good sense of humor, though sometimes her humor is the raw truth, but Kat always speaks her mind and doesn't hold anything back. What she says is what she means. Kat doesn't like mind games, she likes straightforwardness and expects it in return. Before the virus struck, Kat was an optimistic girl, who expressed her feelings openly and believed that no matter what has happened, something good was just around the corner. Now Kat will say she feels okay or everything is alright even when it's not. This is an easy way out, the one thing that Kat does not like to analyze are her feelings so pretending everything is okay is a good defense mechanism for not having to take a closer look at her feelings.
Many people do not know how sensitive Kat really is, she hides it well. As a result, she is often emotionally hurt when the wrong things are said, she takes things too personally sometimes. Kat avoids talking about her emotions and many people never really know how she really feels. Kat has an amazing ability to get along with people and she works best in a group rather than when she is alone, however Kat will not take orders. Even though Kat is a social butterfly, she always needs time for herself and that should be respected.
"Man may have discovered fire, but women discovered how to play with it."
It was not much after midnight when Regina Woods was admitted to the hospital because of contractions. Her due date was still five weeks away, and that worried her. Since she had suffered from two previous miscarriages in the last two years, she was very scared for her twins. After the doctor reassured her that it was normal for twins to be born between the 36-40th week of pregnancy, she was wheeled to the delivery room. At 4:25 am, Katherine Amelia Woods and Keaton Parker Woods had been born, though a bit small but healthy.Even though Kat was ten minutes older than Keaton, it was him who started to walk and talk first, but Kat hasn't fell too far behind.
Since the very young age both of the twins proved that they could be very crafty and prone to stir up trouble if you turned your back on them. One day when their father was at work and their mother was preoccupied with the laundry they decide to go on a adventure. they took their puppy backpacks, which they filled with snacks, and snuck out the back-door. They had gotten to the playground when the weather turned bad. Since both of them were afraid of thunder, they were scared to walk back home, so they curled up inside the wooden playhouse. At the same time, their mother came back into the living room where the twins were supposed to watch cartoons, and realized that they were nowhere inside. She was on the verge of calling the police when she remembered the playground not that far from their house. She took an umbrella, and without even bothering to lock the doors, rushed to the playground. She almost collapsed with relief when found them hugging each other with runny noses and teary eyes.
By the time they had started school, their parents were almost always fighting, whether it was about not bringing out the trash or how Carter (their father) spent so little time at home. 'I work for the military, and you know that it's not up to me when I'm home or not,' their father would shout. Then their mother would yell something back, and when they realized that Kat and Keaton were there, they would just close the door and keep arguing though not so loud anymore. They were nine years old when their parents divorced. Since they had divided custody and their father had to move because of his work, they would only meet every other month. They liked spending their time with their father, because every time he would take them camping and teach them something new. The first time they learned how to build a fire with using only sticks and rocks, then how to follow tracks and identify the animal that had left them. Since they now only lived with their mother , some older kids at school picked on them, telling them that their dad left because of them. Short tempered as Kat was, she got into a fight with them. They got suspended for two days and their mother couldn't take time off from work so she brought them to the antique shop she worked at, with a condition that they don't touch anything. Kat found the old Russian man, Boris, who owned the shop scary at first. But when he gave them cookies when their mother wasn't looking, though he clearly heard when she said that for punishment they couldn't have any, she couldn't help but smile at him. Since neither of their grandparents were alive, Boris became their grandpa figure. For their eleventh birthday, Boris gave them each a present. Kat got a beautiful heart pendant, which you could open and put a small picture in it, while Keaton got a pocket watch. When Boris told their mother that both the watch and pendant belonged to his parents, she wanted to give them back, but he just shook his head and with a thick Russian accent said 'Since I don't have children of my own, they are closest to being my grandchildren. I want them to have it.' It devastated them when Boris died from cancer six months later.
A year later their mother married her boyfriend, Tom O'Neill. Tom worked as a firefighter, and since Keaton was at the age when all he would talk about were superheros, being a firefighter was relatively close to the superhero image in his eyes. So it came as no surprise that he became attached to their new stepfather fairly quickly. It took a bit longer for Kat to warm up to him, since she thought that he wanted to take her daddy's place, but once he sat her and Keaton down and told them that he wasn't planning on replacing their father in their hearts, she felt relieved. They were all pleasantly surprised when little Jeremy was born, since Regina was told that she wouldn't be able to have any more children.
Jeremy was the first to go. He had always been a sickly kid, even as a baby he was getting a cold easily.Something to do with his weaker immunity. So they didn't worry much, because why would they? In a day or two he would he would be better, like always. But it wasn't like always. His cold wasn't getting better, and the news started talking about the new virus that infected a very big number of people. He got worse and they rushed him into the hospital, by the morning he was gone. To make matters worse, Keaton couldn't travel home because the campus was under quarantine. It was the first time that Kat hated that they decided to their separate way and he was now at a far away college instead of being home like Kat was. If he was home, he would for sure know what to do, after all he was the more level headed of the two. If he was home she could be stronger, now that their mother and stepfather were sick. Now that she felt that tickle in her stomach that meant she might be sick too. Their stepfather was next, followed by their mother just a few hours after. She was sobbing when she called him on the phone, his voice was weak when he answered as if he already knew. They stayed all nigh on the phone, until they both passed out from the fever.
She was surprised when she woke up the next day. She wasn't feeling as ill as the day before, though she was still weak. It took three more days for her to recover completely, on the second day of her recovery her father called. He told her to try to get a hold of Keaton and try to somehow meet up, and go to California where it's safe. She called but every time it went straight to voice-mail. She was sure that he also survived, she didn't now how but she was sure that she would feel it if he wasn't. No matter what, she will find him and then they will be together again.
